Residents of Vienna gather in the city center on New Year's Eve to walk the "New Year's Path" or "Silsterpfad". The party starts at 2:00 pm, people slowly pour out into the street and fill up with hot mulled wine and caramelized apples.
At midnight, the Pummerin bell rings from the tower of St. Stephen's Cathedral, and the first fireworks are set off over Prater park.
