Kamala Beach Alanya. Tours to the Kamala Beach Resort. Why choose Kamala Resort and Spa

The coast stretches for almost 3 kilometers. The beach can be divided into 3 areas: south on both sides of the hill, center and north. The southernmost tip of Kamala is not suitable for swimming. At low tide it becomes very shallow here, and the bottom with stones is exposed. Two rivers flow into the sea from the south side, and fishermen moor their long-tail boats here. A little south of Kamala, across the pass, lies secret beach Hua. It is completely wild, there is almost no infrastructure there.

central part Kamala starts from the tsunami monument and continues to the north. The sand here is of different sizes, in some places it is very fine, in others it is larger. The entry into the sea is gentle and without rocks, which is suitable for swimming with children. At low tide you need to walk to the depths. The color of the water is not as beautiful as in Surin; the sea sometimes seems cloudy, although it is clear. The central part of the beach is bordered by casuarinas and palm trees, creating natural shade. This is where the main beach infrastructure is located: sun loungers and umbrellas for rent, trays with drinks and water sports. The price for a set of two sun loungers and an umbrella is 200 baht for the whole day. There are places where you can sit with your mat in the shade of trees and relax comfortably without fear of getting sunburned. Paid toilets and showers are available at nearby restaurants.

The very north of Kamala is quieter than the central part. There are few people here, you can sit on a mat in the shade of trees, and swimming is just as comfortable as in the center; the low tides are hardly noticeable. A stream flows into the sea, which dries up in the high season and does not bother vacationers.

The south of Kamala Beach is not suitable for swimming

Kamala Beach Hotels

There are not many hotels on Kamala. All of them are located near the sea. In the very south on the mountain there are also private villas. The sea around them is not the best: low tides are noticeable, the bottom is full of rocks, but hotels provide shuttles to their own beach club with good sea, and the views from the rooms and restaurants are gorgeous. In the central part of Kamala you can live in three star hotel, for four only adults from 16 years old and in a children's hotel with entertainment for younger guests. In the northern part it is located right on the beach, and a little to the side - with water slides.

Photo sessions are held in Kamala

Attractions and entertainment

The coast is popular with newlyweds from China. In the morning, photographers run around happy married couples and force them to pose even in the midday heat. Photo sessions take place closer to the north of the coast, where it is less crowded. There are not as many water sports in Kamala as on and, you can ride a jet ski, fly with a parachute. The bay is suitable for a quiet beach holiday, long swims and watching a charming sunset, sitting on the sand or in one of the restaurants near the beach. There are no problems with drinks and Thai food right on the coast: in the central part, rows of cafes line up every day and cafes are located. Along the beach itself there are peddlers selling corn, ice cream and other snacks. There are several massage points right on the beach and salons located along the streets.

Makashnitsy near the beach offering cocktails

In the southern part of the beach there is a Buddhist temple - Wat Baan Kamala. On the territory of the shrine you will find a bell tower, monastic cells, a school and the main building with painted walls and a statue of Buddha. The beauty of the temple cannot be compared with or. Wat Baan Kamala features rustic charm and tranquil seclusion. If you have time, check out this Buddhist temple, just be sure to cover your shoulders, cleavage, knees and stomach. It is customary to take off your shoes when entering a building.

There are many cafes along the beach in the central part

In the evening it is worth visiting the famous. There are many shops with souvenirs on the streets, you can take pictures in national clothes, see local crafts, a small terrarium and Bengal tigers, and ride an elephant. You can visit the park with dinner, which takes place in the golden palace of Kinari. The show is held every day except Thursday, in a stone palace with elephants. The village of Fantasy and the show will appeal to children. If you are relaxing with an adult group, you should give preference.

What to do in Kamala?

In the central part of the coast, vacationers are offered water sports: parachute, banana and aqua scooter. In the south, long-tail boats moor for trips along the beaches of Phuket. There are no places for snorkeling on Kamala; it is better to go to the islands for fish and corals.

During the low season from May to October, waves appear on Kamala. Here you can rent a surfboard or take lessons with an instructor. For those who like training, in the south, before the pass on, there is a Thai boxing camp where both group and individual classes are held.

In the center of the beach, on the embankment near the Tsunami Memorial, there is a small park with a playground and sports equipment. Kids will enjoy riding the slides or swinging on the swings. Access to the playground and use of exercise equipment is free. From the hill, just north of the Novotel Phuket Kamala, you have a gorgeous view of the entire beach. If you wish, you can get there on foot along the main road, but be careful: there are no pedestrian paths.

View from observation deck to Kamala

If you get bored in Kamala, explore Phuket by city bus. Its stop is located near the local post office. Blue songthaew rides along main road from Kamala via Surin and Bangtao to Phuket Town. By bus you will get to the Villa Market, and , and shopping centers. Detailed information about the route

Restaurants and cafes

Kamala Beach is lined with vendors selling drinks, popcorn, ice cream and other foods. In the central part of the coast, restaurants and cafes, pop-up shops and stalls with, and are lined up in a row. The streets near the Print Kamala Hotel and the Tsunami Monument are lined with restaurants serving European food. I can recommend the German restaurant Kokosnuss, which offers pasta, schnitzels, sausages, yoghurts, pastries and much more. Located on the shore with a gorgeous view of the sea good restaurant Mamma Mia with European, Thai cuisine and. Another favorite of mine - Ohlala restaurant - is located on the main highway. The menu offers Thai classics, dishes from the north of Thailand, including khao soi soup, papaya salad, and European food.

Beach street with shops and restaurants

For a special occasion, try Plum Restaurant at the Cape Sienna Hotel. On the open terrace there are ordinary tables and round gazebos surrounded by water. The prices in the restaurant are above average, but the view is simply amazing. The menu includes Mediterranean, European and Thai seafood cuisine. And if you want to drink a cup of delicious Thai coffee, go to Doi Chang Coffee. Detailed information you will find about Kamala restaurants.

Night life

Kamala cannot boast of active evening entertainment. Several bars are located on the streets of the central part of the beach and along the main road. Perhaps the most famous are Kamala Beer Garden and the sports Aussie Pub. Towards the north you will find two beach clubs - the Phuket branch of Ibiza's famous Café Del Mar and HQ Beach Lounge. During the day, beach clubs play pleasant music suitable for lunch, and towards night there are parties.

Desperate partygoers should go, take a walk, look into bars, where, have a blast at a disco. Some hotels offer shuttles to Bangla Street or Jangceylon Shopping Centre. will cost 300-400 baht per car one way. The drive is only 10-15 minutes.

Markets and shops on Kamala Beach

The Kamala area cannot be called a paradise for shopaholics, but everything you need is there: exchange offices, markets, 24-hour mini-markets and a supermarket. scattered all over the beach, both on the embankment, near the Tsunami Monument, and several on the main highway. There are two markets on Kamala: opposite on Fridays and at the pass to Patong on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Big C Shopping Center

Groceries, ready meals, household chemicals, cosmetics and much more can be bought at the Big C supermarket on the main road, at Tesco Lotus Express or at Superchip. You will find souvenirs and beach accessories in shops on the embankment and on nearby streets. Don’t forget about: peddlers walking along the beach with elephants, tunics, and blankets. Be sure to bargain with them.

Map of Kamala Beach in Russian

I have indicated all the above-described attractions, hotels, cafes, restaurants, markets, entertainment and shops on the map below. You can download it to your phone.

Kamala Resort and Spa 3* is a resort spa hotel located on Kamala Beach (Phuket Province). It offers a restaurant, an outdoor swimming pool, as well as parking and Wi-Fi (free). Many tourists consider the Kamala Resort Spa hotel one of the best best options, chosen by them for accommodation on vacation.

Kamala Beach

Kamala (Phuket) is a beach on resort island, which may appeal primarily to lovers of measured, calm and inexpensive holiday. The cost of staying at a hotel here is much lower than on Karon Beach or Patong. Length coastline is about 2 km. This significantly exceeds the length of the coastlines on other popular Phuket beaches.

In general, Kamala (Phuket) is a kind of village. So, if Patong can already be compared with Pattaya, then here development is still, one might say, in its infancy. This is partly due to the tsunami that occurred in 2004. The entire island was affected, but Kamala Beach suffered the most.

As already mentioned, the beach is quite spacious and long, which, of course, captivates many. There is no such crowd that can be seen in Patong. Many people like the relative uncrowding and tranquility of Kamala Beach.

Peculiarities

One of the main features Kamala Beach is the Phuket Fantasea (Fantasy show) held here. This is an amazing show based on the story of Prince Kamala. The show is incredibly colorful, it is distinguished by the use of unusual beautiful costumes, the participation of illusionists, acrobats and clowns. But the main feature of the performance is the elephants, which actively participate in the performance and amuse the audience.

It should be noted that there are practically no Russian tourists here. Holidays here are more suitable for older people and couples with children. Undoubtedly, Kamala will be comfortable for those who do not like noise and bustle.

How to get there?

Kamala Beach is accessible from any of the popular beaches in Phuket. If you discard the option of having your own bike or taxi, you can use by shuttle bus, plying the route to Kamala from Phuket Town. In general, there are several types of bus routes that connect popular beaches.

If you are coming from the city, you need to take the bus at Ranong Market and follow it to the final stop. The fare is 40 baht (71.20 rubles) per person. It is a little more expensive than other beaches, but the distance from the city to Kamala is slightly longer.

Experienced travelers advise tourists, when returning home from the beach, to walk up the road a few hundred meters. Here you can find a wonderful place for memorable photos, similar to an observation deck. The view from here is simply stunning.

Description of the beach

Tourists who choose Kamala Beach for their holiday speak favorably about the water, sand and degree of cleanliness on the territory. Here, in their opinion, everything is quite acceptable. They note a huge shoal, because of which those who want to swim at low tide have to go very far from the shore.

When the sea is rough and there are big waves, sand rises from the bottom. Some may think that the water is dirty, but this is not true, they say knowledgeable tourists. And yet it is unlikely that you will be able to see the fish at such a time.

Where can I eat?

As elsewhere in similar places, there are many cafes along the entire coastline. The cost of food is average for Phuket. Together you can have a good meal for about 150-200 baht (267-356 rubles). You can also have a snack on the beach with sweet corn, which can be cooked on the grill here.

Kamala Beach: which hotel to choose?

Although the infrastructure of Kamala Beach is far from ideal, as many believe, there are still plenty of hotels here. Particularly popular is Novotel, which locates its comfortable houses directly on the seashore.

The cost of a holiday here is not cheap: from 5,000 baht (890 rubles) per day. This is understandable: this price is justified by the location right next to the sea. There are also Andara Resort Villas, luxury villas whose prices start from 32,000 baht (RUB 56,960) per night!

There are also many small hotels and guest houses located on Kamala Beach. If you wish, you can stay in one of them.

For those who are planning a long vacation (2 months or more), it makes sense to rent a town house. It is a spacious lodge with many amenities, including a swimming pool. In Kamala, unlike Patong, where everything is more expensive, such housing, according to tourists, can be found for 20,000 baht (35,600 rubles) per month.

Enough wide choose accommodation is provided to vacationers by Kamala Beach. Kamala Resort and Spa 3* is one of the most popular hotels.

The Kamala Resort and Spa is considered by many to be one of the best options in the city.

A universal resort for lovers of paradise beaches and beautiful nature. Great for couples, young people and families with children.

A direct flight from Moscow to Phuket takes about 9 hours. The transfer lasts about 1-2 hours depending on the distance of the hotel.

Best time for holidays - from November to April. The rainy season lasts from May to November.

All Phuket beaches are sandy, with a smooth entrance to the sea. Some beaches have pronounced ebb and flow tides.

Phuket has many markets, small shops and shopping centers where you can inexpensively buy clothes, souvenirs, beach accessories, and cosmetics. Prices are higher than in Pattaya, but lower than in Krabi and Koh Samui.

The resort has many cafes and restaurants with both Thai and European cuisine. If you wish, you can find Russian cuisine.

Recently, Russian-speaking employees have begun to appear in hotels; in cafes you can find menus in Russian.

Hotels differ by the beach on which they are located: Patong is the noisiest and most active, Karon is the most beautiful, Kata is the most remote and secluded, Bang Tao is the most respectable.

About Thailand

The best time to holiday in Thailand is from November to the end of March. However, all months of the year, without exception, are hot, and the sea is warm. Summer is the rainy season in the country.

To travel to Thailand you only need a passport - no visa is required.

The flight from Moscow to Thailand lasts about 9 hours.

When checking in, hotel staff usually ask for a deposit for the room. The deposit amount is approximately 50 US dollars (depending on the hotel).

When purchasing a tour to Thailand, you usually choose only breakfast at the hotel. Tourists prefer to have lunch and dinner in numerous and inexpensive restaurants or cafes.

Never drink tap water! It is better to take your medications with you; local pharmacies will only stock alternative medicine.

Like most Siberians, my husband and I love to go to Thailand, especially in winter, to warm up and take a break from the 30-degree Siberian frosts for at least a couple of weeks. There is nothing better than getting on a plane and coming out of winter and snowdrifts into tropical paradise among palm trees, fruits and, of course, the sea. But passive relaxation on the same beach is not for us, so we set out to explore the island of Phuket, its attractions and beaches. One of the beaches we were interested in was Kamala Beach.

How to get there, where it is

The most famous and tourist beaches on the island of Phuket are located according to its west coast. Each beach is located in a bay and is usually separated from neighboring ones by small mountains on both sides.

Kamala Beach is comfortably located between and Surin. Kamala is a little-known beach for Russian tourists, 20 km from Phuket airport, which has been unfairly ignored by tour operators. Most package tours include accommodation on the beaches of Patong, Karon and Kata or on the elite beaches of the northern part of the island. The people here are mainly those who travel independently or those who, like me, love to learn new things and want to explore the island.

This is exactly what we did, arriving in Phuket on a package tour and checking into a hotel on Patong Beach. We rented a car and went to explore all the beaches of Phuket, fortunately it is not difficult to do, there are signs everywhere.

Unfortunately, they didn’t give us a bike without driving experience. From the beach to Kamala it is approximately 10 kilometers or 10 minutes by car or 15 minutes by bike. The roads on the island are very good quality, the only negative is that they are winding, so be careful.

During the tourist season, there are boats on the beach that offer for $40 (about 1,500 Thai baht) to take you to Patong and back. Some people use them instead of taxis.

In Kamala there is a bus stop (songthaew), where for $1.11 (40 baht) you can get to Phuket Town and back, but buses do not run often, once every 20-30 minutes. Unfortunately, there is no direct connection using such buses between the beaches on the island, but if you don’t want to spend money on a taxi, you can get there through Phuket Town. For example, from Patong Beach you get to the final destination (Phuket Town, Ranong Market), and then change to a bus to Kamala Beach. But keep in mind that one such trip will take you 40-60 minutes. Also keep in mind that buses only run until 6 pm.

You can take a taxi to Phuket Town for $17 (600 baht), and to Patong for $11 (400 baht).

For the route Kamala - airport you will be charged $17 (600 baht).

Description of the beach

When we were going to Kamala Beach, we didn’t read reviews about it, because... wanted to form their own opinion. And this is how it turned out: the beach is very clean, the sand is finer and cleaner than on famous beach Patong, lighter, easier on the feet.

The entrance to the sea is quite flat, the bottom is clean, there are no stones, shells or debris, the shallow depth lasts for a long time, which is quite comfortable for families with children, as well as for those who are afraid of big waves or do not like depth.

During waves, the water becomes cloudy with sand, but in itself it is clean. You can watch our video review of Kamala Beach below.

The beach strip is quite long, about 2 km in length and at the same time not too narrow (up to 30 meters), so you will have plenty of space. Palm trees grow along the beach. On the beach everything is quite clean and uncrowded, unlike the most popular Kata and even more so Patong.

The tourists who vacation here are mostly foreigners; we saw practically no Russians, although it was the peak of the tourist season in Thailand. So for some, this factor will be key when choosing a beach for relaxation.

Ebbs and flows

Every day there is high tide before noon, and low tide in the afternoon. In the evening the water rises again. Keep this in mind when planning your swim at Kamala Beach.

Infrastructure of Kamala Beach in Phuket, our reviews

If you come to Kamala Beach on a bike or in a rented car, there is parking here, so you will have somewhere to leave your vehicle.

When we were here in the winter at the beginning of 2014, sun loungers were still allowed, then by the end of the year, after the military coup in Thailand, sun loungers were banned on the beaches and they were forced to remove everything. The military that came to power was guided by the fact that public land should belong to the public, not private entrepreneurs, and tourists should not pay $3 (100 baht) for a sunbed. And because of large cluster sunbeds on the beaches, the sea is not visible at all, the authorities wanted tourists to enjoy the pristine beauty.

After some time, in response to complaints from tourists, it was allowed to rent umbrellas to protect from the sun. But enterprising Thais took advantage of this relaxation and came up with a little trick with sun loungers. Now they rake small piles of sand and lay mattresses on them, thereby imitating sun loungers. It’s convenient for tourists, and the way to earn money has returned, and in fact the law has not been broken, because... These are not folding lounge chairs.

If you don’t want to pay for makeshift sun loungers, you can sit for free on your beach towel brought from the hotel.

There are Thai massage stalls on the beach.

Other entertainment options include a banana and a water scooter. The price for riding a scooter is $42 (1500 baht) for 30 minutes.

Behind the Kamala beach of the island of Phuket there is a small park in which mainly local Thais relax, go jogging, exercises are carried out in the open air, exercise equipment is installed, and a small playground is equipped for children, so if you wish, you can warm up, and for those who is actively involved in sports in his homeland - this is a great opportunity not to fall out of the training regime.

In 2006, a memorial was erected in the park to the victims of the flood that occurred on December 26, 2004.

In front of the beach there are small stalls with fruits, drinks, boiled corn and Thai pancakes; the prices here, of course, are still touristy and higher than in neighboring Patong. For example, boiled corn, which costs $0.6-0.85 (20-30 Thai baht), now costs $1.4 (50 baht), mango, which cost $2.5 (90 baht)/kg on Karon beach, costs here 3.1$(110 baht). Coconut costs $1.7 (60 baht), and pancakes instead of the usual $0.85 (30 baht) are already $1.1 (40 baht).

Numerous souvenirs and other tourist attributes are also sold here. There are also massage parlors in Kamala, usually located on the first floors of residential buildings on the streets of the area.

There is even a post office in the Kamala area from where you can send a postcard or parcel to your family and friends. You can find the post office by the red sign: Kamala Counter Service Post. There are no queues here, so sending a postcard to my homeland did not take me much time.

You can also find exchangers on Kamala Beach, not as many as on more popular beaches (so it’s better to change there), but you still have the opportunity to exchange money.

Kamala is a quiet area where mainly local people live.

If, for example, on the beaches of Patong and Karon, all housing is mainly rented out to visitors, and Thais go to these areas only to work, then on the contrary, mostly locals live here. There are also Muslims among them. There are not as many of them as in the neighboring Surin region, but nevertheless, on the streets of Kamala you can easily meet a woman in a hijab, and do not be surprised if she is on a motorbike.

By the way, you can walk to neighboring Surin from Kamala Beach. True, this is quite dangerous, because... You need to walk along the highway in the complete absence of sidewalks. But we were in a car, so we didn’t take any risks to get there on foot.

Also from Kamala Beach it is very close to the famous Phuket show - Phuket Fantasea. This is a colorful costumed national performance of Prince Kamala, accompanied by acrobatic stunts, illusionists and elephant performances.

Accommodation on Kamala Beach

There are only about 70 hotels on Kamala Beach, which is why it is not overloaded with vacationers.

There are no hotels in the northern part of the beach, as well as no passage; you can only get here on foot.

Compared to the beaches in the north, Kamala Beach hotels in Phuket and apartments (you can even find up to $280 equivalent to 10,000 baht per month) in Kamala are relatively inexpensive.

The average hotels on Kamala Beach are resorts located on the hills surrounding the beach, or at a sufficient distance from beach line. Such hotels offer a quiet family vacation, and average prices for accommodation in them range from $100 per night and above.

Here you will not find hotels with their own beach, because... All beaches in Phuket are public. And a hotel from which you can more or less quickly get to the sea, leaving your room immediately in a bathing suit - Kamala Beach Resort, he’s the only one here, the cost of living starts from $200 per night.

One of the most popular hotels is Kamala Resort & SPA 4*. It is located by the road on the very outskirts of Kamala Beach on Phuket Island from Patong Beach, a 15-minute walk to the sea, but it is considered to have a fairly good location in relation to shops and the market, as well as excellent rooms with a kitchen. The hotel consists of 4 buildings, is located quite conveniently, there is free parking for cars and bikes. There are restaurants, a massage parlor, and a gym. The cost of a room, for example, in high season in February is $75 (2700 baht) per night.

Quite enough from 3* famous hotel Sungthong Kamala Beach 3*.

At the end of the beach on the hill there is the famous Novotel 4* hotel, the cost of a night's stay in which starts from $85 (3000 baht). The section of the beach owned by this hotel is considered the calmest; there are almost never waves here. It is often chosen by families with children, because... It's quite shallow here.

Very close to the Fantasia show good hotels eg Moom – Tuk, Dengs Kamala Beach Resort

One of the budget hotels is The Mareeya Place 2*.

Alternatively, you can rent an apartment in a condominium 600-800 meters from the beach, for example, in Kamala Regent

These houses have a common gym, swimming pool and recreation areas. Prices from $55 (1950 baht/day.

Among the recommended ones in the closest possible proximity to the sea are: Kamala Beachfront Apartment, Grace resort, Coconut Garden. You can book at Booking.com, but you can check if there are better prices somewhere.

Where to eat, prices

In addition to the above-mentioned trays or macarons from which you can buy tangerines, mangoes, pineapples, small bananas, mangosteens, dragon fruit, coconuts, and many, many other fruits and cocktails, you can have a full meal in local restaurants. We stopped at one of these establishments at the entrance to the beach - this open cafe, where tables are set up under a canopy, there are many locals here. The food came out pretty quickly and we loved it! Tom yum soup costs $4.2 (150 baht).

A cafe can also be found at the end of Kamala Beach, if you go towards Surin, where the sand strip becomes quite narrow.

If you like to go to local shops and buy food to cook yourself, then a small supermarket Big C will be a great find for you on Kamala Beach. This is the only full-fledged supermarket in the beach area of Phuket Island; all other super and hypermarkets are located in the Phuket area. town. And on other beaches, tourists are content with only standard minimarkets 7/11 (there is one on Kamala) and Famaly Mart. In Big C you will find fruits, vegetables, dairy products, as well as many non-food products. Another minimarket on Kamala Beach is Tesco Lotus.

You can also buy local food at the market. It can be found if you go down behind the Kamala Resort & SPA hotel.

The market is aimed more at locals, unlike the markets in Kata or Karon, where everything is only for tourists. Here you will not find a single English inscription; you will have to choose only by eye. But you can be sure that if locals buy food here, then you can rest assured about its freshness and quality.

Prices at the market are good, for example, longan costs $0.85-1.1 (30-40 baht) per kilogram, for 3 peeled small pineapples they ask for $1.1 (40 baht), petahaya (dragon fruit) - 2.2 $ (80 baht) per kilogram, cherry tomatoes – $2.8 (100 baht)/kg.

Also on the market there are clothes and cosmetics that are no longer aimed at local residents. This market operates on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Area Kamala Beach we really liked it. It is quiet, calm, everything you need for a comfortable stay. But this beach is definitely not suitable for those who are looking for active rest, night parties - for all this you need to go to neighboring Patong. Everything here is for relaxation. It is also believed that this beach has some of the most beautiful sunsets in Phuket. Be sure to check it out for yourself;) To avoid disappointment, plan to visit Kamala Phuket beach in December-February - during the highest and calmest season in terms of waves and study the reviews.

Kamala Beach in Phuket (Kamala Beach) the beach is very ambiguous for me; for more than a year I can’t decide whether I like it or not :) There are beaches that you fall in love with the first time - for me this best beaches Phuket Surin and , there are beaches that at first glance cause horror - for me these are Kata and Patong, and there are these average beaches that are sometimes very pleasing, and sometimes upsetting. In this article detailed description Kamala beach Phuket, sea, infrastructure, hotels on Kamala beach, photos, reviews.

Kamala Beach in Phuket is so different depending on the time of year, time of day, weather and my mood :)

Description of Kamala Beach

Kamala Beach is a long beach in a bay in the west of Phuket, located north of the popular Patong and south of the beloved. Between Patong and Kamala there is also Kalim Beach, which is not swimmable, and between Kamala and Surin, the passage to which is this moment It is closed by land and can only be reached by sea. Kamala Beach

As I already wrote, Kamala Beach is quite long, the length beach strip about two kilometers. Conventionally, Kamala Beach can be divided into four parts (scheme map below):

  • The southern part is the unswimmable part of the beach, shallow sea, boats, a stinking river flows nearby (number 1)
  • The central equipped part of the beach with all the necessary beach infrastructure and a small walking path near the sea (number 2)
  • The wild part of Kamala beach, which ends with a river (number 3)
  • The northernmost part of Kamala Beach, where the Café Del Mar Phuket beach club and the Novotel Phuket Kamala Beach hotel are located (number 4)

The schematic map schematically shows areas of Kamala Beach

All these parts of the beach differ from each other in the quality of the sand, the entry into the sea, the number of people, and the cleanliness.

Vegetation, shade, sand, sea

Gorgeous palm trees and spreading casuarinas (Thai “coniferous” trees with soft “needles”) grow along the entire beach strip, which create good shade in the first half of the day.

The beach has lush vegetation, many casuarinas
There are also plenty of palm trees in Kamala :)

The beach strip at high tide is not very wide, so it’s convenient to sunbathe in the shade under a tree, and then run briefly along the hot sand to cool off in the sea :)

The sand on Kamala Beach is grayish, fine, and in some places mixed with small stones. In the northern part near Novotel the sand is finer.

The sand in the northern part of the beach near the Novotel hotel is finer and whiter

The entry into the sea is very smooth, in the southern part of the beach the sea is very shallow, swimming is problematic, in the central part the sea is deeper, but at low tide it also becomes shallow. The entrance to the water is without large stones and corals, but here and there there are small pebbles in the water.

Low tide on the beach
Despite the fact that at low tide the sea goes far away, swimming in the sea in the central part of the beach is still comfortable

The color of sea water depends greatly on the time of day and the presence of sun. In the first half of the day in sunny weather, the sea is bright turquoise, but in the evening it is gray... The water in the sea is not as pleasant and gentle as on Surin or Kata Noi, and because of the gray sand at the bottom it does not seem very clean, although in fact it is not this way. In general, the sea on Kamala is similar to the sea on Samui or, i.e. not perfectly transparent!

Or something like this. Second half of the day, the dim sun is shining from the sea

In summer, Kamala Beach, like most beaches in Phuket, has strong waves; in the off-season (autumn and spring) the waves are small and very pleasant; in winter, Kamala is usually calm.

Purity

Unfortunately, the Kamala Beach beach is not very clean. The sections of the beach only opposite the hotels are well cleaned, namely the northernmost part of the beach near Novotel and the central part opposite the Kamala Beach Resort (A Sunprime Resort) hotel.

Due to the fact that there are a lot of casuarinas growing on the beach, “needles” from them remain on the sand, there are a lot of leaves on the sand that no one removes. There is a lot of garbage in the wild part of Kamala Beach; several times we even saw foreigners coming with large garbage bags and cleaning up a small section of the beach.

The beach cannot boast of ideal cleanliness; there is quite a lot of natural debris

Kamala Beach infrastructure

Now sunbeds have been returned to some Phuket beaches, which by law must occupy no more than 10% of the beach strip: not all beaches have them, but on Kamala Beach there are sunbeds and umbrellas for rent, the cost for two sunbeds and an umbrella is 200 baht per day.

The beds are waiting for tourists :)

There are also paid toilets and showers on the beach, which I saw in those places (I’ll mark them on the map at the bottom of the article):

  • In the northern part of the beach near the river
  • In the Nanork Seafood cafe, which is located on the path between the developed and wild parts of the beach, where everyone parks their vehicles (only the shower here is a hose and a barrel of fresh water 🙂)
  • In the central part of the beach, where the row of cafes along the sea ends and the row of shops begins (the shower is normal, there is even shower gel :)

Toilet 10 baht, shower 20 baht. You can also try to rinse off in the shower for free on the premises of the Sunprime Resort hotel.

On the shore you can get a massage, either on mattresses on the sand or in a massage parlor near the shore. Prices for Kamala massage in the photo below:

Along almost the entire coastline there is a concrete footpath, covered in sand here and there. In the central part of the beach, on one side of it there are cafes and even several hotels on the first line, and on the other, the beach itself and the sea. It’s very pleasant to sit in a cafe almost on the very seashore: unfortunately, such cafes that are located right next to the beach strip can rarely be found in Phuket. In the “wild” no-man’s-land of the beach, on one side of the path there is a concrete fence, and on the other the beach itself: it’s convenient to drive up on a bike and park right next to the place where you are lying :)

Prices for Kamala in cafes along the beach are standard, the average cost of dinner is 400 - 500 baht for two.

At the northern end of Kamala Beach is the popular beach club and restaurant Café Del Mar, which hosts brunch on Sundays and parties in the evenings.

Contingent and number of people on the beach

A year ago, Kamala Beach, especially its wild part, was almost empty. In the same season, there is simply an invasion of tourists throughout Phuket (they say that the last time such a full house of vacationers in Thailand was in the 2012-2013 season, just when we wintered for the first time)!

There are a lot of foreign pensioners, Germans, Scandinavians. But there are also enough Russian speakers for Kamala Beach. This beach is often chosen for families with children; many families with strollers walk along the path along the sea or along the surf line during low tide.

Local newlyweds love to come to Kamala for a wedding photo shoot; we have already seen photo shoots on the beach more than once :)

Infrastructure of the Kamala region

The infrastructure of the Kamala region is very well developed. The main road runs approximately 350 m from the beach. There is a large Big C supermarket, many 7 Elevens, Family mart, other shops, banks, cafes, restaurants, certain time Makashnitsa are laid out along the road.

In addition to the pedestrian path with a cafe along the sea on Kamala, there are also several small tourist streets with cafes, restaurants, massage parlors where you can stroll in the evening. These streets reminded me of the main street on Koh Samui.

In the central part, near the embankment, there is a small park with a children's playground and a monument to the victims of the tsunami.

Several times a week, Kamala hosts a sort of Walking Street or, simply put, Night Market, where they sell Thai food, some clothes, and some souvenirs. Despite the fact that the markets are called night, they are open from lunch until approximately 19:00 - 20:00.

Markets on Kamala Beach:

  • The Wednesday and Saturday market is located across the street from Big S. Coordinates: 7.946059, 98.279853
  • The market on Mondays and Fridays is here: 7.953813, 98.286008, across the street from the park with the Fantasia show.

Entertainment and attractions

On the Kamala beach itself you can rent a jet ski, ride on the sea on a “banana” or “cheesecake”, rent a SUP board, and in the northern part near the Novotel hotel they rent kayaks.

On Kamala, in the southernmost part there is the Buddhist temple Wat Kamala, and in the center there is a mosque.

There is a large theme park and Phuket FantaSea show here.

Hotels on Kamala Beach

Speaking about hotels on Kamala beach, I want to note that hurray, there is inexpensive hotels on the first line! But for lovers of good comfortable hotels in Kamala there is a choice :)
