Almost all hotels have their own sand white sandy beaches equipped with bridges leading into the water. It's nice to spend your free time here. Separately, the presence of a wonderful embankment is noted.

In Portorož, main seaside resort Slovenia, which I will talk about today, we are entering late - we got into a big traffic jam on a narrow mountain road caused by an accident. Separate interesting story I'll tell you somehow. Here it is, Slovenian Primorska (aka Oblana-Krashka, aka Coast), a meeting with which I look forward to and with some apprehension. I booked here already 3 nights, what if you don’t like it? I know that Portorož is a modern city. And I don't really like those.

We are driving along the road ... My favorite Mediterranean pines, heavy traffic, great weather! I know that our apartments are not very easy to find, I read the reviews of previous vacationers - "very difficult". However - viva GPS and navigators! You drive in the coordinates, you steer, and you only worry about them being correct.

I'll tell you a little about the family that sheltered us for 3 days. The mistress of the house is Isa. She's Italian. Her husband is Slovenian. The family is large, in my opinion, 5 children. The children are all adults now. Izzy's granddaughters were already chasing around the yard. The son helps in managing the guest house Apartments Vila Toni, one daughter is studying, another one is raising those same children chasing around the territory. Easy is an energetic, very bright, benevolent woman (rays of love and the warmest wishes to her). Iza speaks Slovenian, Italian, Croatian, German and English! How many languages do you have in stock? (I'll go and learn English so that it's not so embarrassing). The hotel itself resembles such a very, very cultural version of our Crimean "birdhouses". What does it remind you of? It can be seen that the family has been earning all its life and investing in expanding the business - here a little room is attached, then here. This is where the similarity with Crimea ends, since the level of service (equipment, design of premises, quality of repairs, well-groomed territory) is several orders of magnitude higher than our usual ones. There is free Wi-Fi throughout the territory, a kitchenette with dishes in the room, a table outside .. Eh! How much wine was drunk at that table on the street, overlooking the sea!

I really love people who do something with love. The Izzy family is just that. They were very comfortable. By the way, the photo shows the view from the courtyard of our apartments. But that line of the horizon is already Croatia.

The only drawback (or advantage, how to look) of our guesthouse is an extremely steep road to the sea, to the Bernandin beach. But - close to the store and you can go through the meadow to the other side of the ledge, to the beach, which is located outside the city of Piran.

By the way, in order to understand what Portorož is, it makes sense to tell a little about its geography. Although the route Piran - Bernadin - Portoroz - Lucia claims as much as 4 settlements, I would say that all this is one "big Portorož": 7 km of a leisurely walk along the picturesque coast, one area flows into another. I liked Bernandin - an area located exactly in the middle between Piran and Portoroz. As I already said, the hills there are low, but steep. Architecture in Bernandina is, of course, absent.

A little about the sea in Slovenia. I will talk about the beaches later. The sea, of course, is not at all like the Mediterranean. Just Crimea, the Black Sea. The same dark. Rocky bottom. Seaweed. Well, Slovenia has not been very lucky with the sea. Although "unlucky" is a relative term. It's just that when compared with neighboring Croatia, it's not lucky)). When compared with the same Black Sea - so lucky, I guess. Perhaps it is worth telling a little about Pomorska, the coastal region of Slovenia.

Slovenia has been part of various empires and states for almost the entire history of its existence. Here, as it is not very clear to many people who are poorly familiar with the world (and their own history too), a lot of countries in the world did not exist some 100-200 years ago. The peoples were. Countries are not. This is fine. Not everyone even knows that a country like Italy (!) has existed only since 1861. Let's go back to Slovenia and Pomorska.

During the Middle Ages, this part of the country was part of the Venetian Republic. All the old towns are one to one twins of the same old towns in the Veneto region. Then the coast was under the Austrians and was called the Austrian Primorye. Trieste became the main city of the region, the main sea port Austria-Hungary.

However, after the First World War, part of Pomorsko, along with Trieste and the city of Gorica, passed to Italy. To be honest, for the Slovenes, this is still an unhealed wound.

Near Goritsa they built the city of Novaya Goritsa. And Trieste... to make it clearer, for 40 km Italy has a narrow strip of land between the sea and Slovenia. These are all former "lost" territories. I heard that after the Second World War there was a chance to return these cities, but with very, very big bloodshed, which the Slovenes did not go for. Is it so? Don't know. Didn't find any information. But all this is sad. I understand how painful it is for Slovenes. And I know that they hurt, I heard about it. Wars bring great grief to people. I now know for sure. Don't fight people! And do not support the aggressors. Don't spoil karma.

Now Slovenia has a very narrow access to the water - something like 47 km, which the Slovenes decorated as best they could, from the bottom of their hearts.

Well, let's go to Portorož? We will consider it.
Portorož is the port of roses. Doesn't it sound "our way"? Is very similar.
Portorož became a resort in the distant 13th century. Benedictines from the local monastery of St. Lawrence treated rheumatism and other ailments with sea water. And since the natural Sechovel saltworks are located near Portorož, the method of salt treatment (don’t blame me, I don’t know how) was invented by the monks living here too.

However, the most significant impetus to the development of Portorož as a resort was given in the 19th century by Giovanni Lugnano, who suggested using local concentrated salt water and local mud from estuaries for treatment. The first "cool" sanatorium opened its doors in 1908, thanks to Orazio Pupini (Italian, as you can see). A trip “to the waters” to Portorož cost the Europeans, with equal quality, a little cheaper than to other resorts on the continent, so customers flocked here, which stimulated the construction of luxury hotels and casinos already at the beginning of the 20th century. Here is such a simple, but very effective marketing.

Portorož is called the Slovenian Riviera. True, here are the coolest hotel complexes in Slovenia, a beautiful promenade, expensive shops. Although, if you compare these hotels and shops with the same Italian resorts ... well, they are simpler. But I didn't come here for luxury! Why do I need her? And for new impressions and beauties. And they are here! And, again, standing in a traffic jam on a narrow mountain road, I met a very wealthy German woman who has a yacht laid up in Izola. She loves shopping in Portorož. Yes, and I bought myself a dress there. So there is nothing for me to cry!

What does the city look like? A promenade from which you can swim almost anywhere in the sea. Further, the main central street with shops and restaurants. Then - the first line of hotels. Further, to be honest, we didn’t climb far, but there are also hotels and residential buildings. The houses are modern. Hotels, as you understand, are not older than the beginning of the twentieth century.

Myself sand beach it is very inconveniently located - all the dirt from the water is nailed here by waves and currents. Don't go swimming here, really. Other beaches are much better. What saves the sandy beach of Portorož somehow? Wooden bridges that go far into the sea. You can lie on the platform, on warm boards, listen to the surf, swim, descending into the water from the bridges. That's what most do.

And the entire embankment is like this, concreted. You can swim.

In the town of Lucia there is a wonderful parking lot for boats and yachts, where lovers of sea recreation citizens keep their expensive toys. different countries Europe. The parking lot is such a whole town - and a hotel, and a shop, and restaurants. By the way, here, near Lucia, the beach is beautiful.

The embankment of Portorož is undoubtedly its decoration. And so funny, almost throughout its entire length - one big concrete shop. It's good there! They catch fish, swim... I really like the sculptures on this embankment and on the main street of Portorož.

But the most pleasant place for me to swim is Bernandin. Yes, a concrete slab and an entrance to the sea from ladders. But the sea is deep and clear. You can lie on the grass under the pines... Yes, that's what I did! And watching a children's birthday-picnic, which was immediately held by local residents, is great!

By the way, Bernandin, if you are going to rest in the hotel, is very well located. He is standing on a pier. Those. on the one hand - the sea, on the other - the bay. Didn't look at prices. Sorry. This beautiful sculpture is also Bernandine.

And here are the ruins of the church that gave the name to the area and the hotel. By the way, there is also shops and restaurants. And quite a lot of Russian-speaking tourists.

And on the beach there is a free "toy", which is such a toy model of the "Patriot Games", etc. - i.e. obstacle course to pass. A cool thing, at least climb it, at least watch the climbers. Well, I just got an advertisement for Portorož in general and Bernandin in particular.

Another great thing about Portorož is the water sports base located right there. These are the boats maneuvering around the bay in incredible numbers. They resemble a flock of funny animals that turn on command, go one way, then the other. Do you see that gray house in the background? Former salt warehouse.

In the evening in Portorož, it is best to go to a restaurant and enjoy a really decent quality local cuisine. And it is better that this restaurant was on the sea.

Surprisingly, I liked Portorož. I think because he has such a wonderful satellite neighbor as the ancient Piran, which will be discussed later. I don't mind coming back to Portorož one more time. Somehow. Passage. And again I will stop at Easy.

Portorož is the most famous resort Slovenian Riviera, located 145 km from the airport of Ljubljana and 100 km from the Croatian airport of Pula. On the one hand, it rests on the small village of Lucia, where local residents live, and on the other end it flows directly into medieval city Piran is the pearl of the Slovenian Adriatic. This is the most fashionable resort in Slovenia, where you can combine relaxation with wellness programs in thermal pools and the Terme Palace sauna center. Portoroz is the only center of Thai medicine in the Mediterranean, as well as a thalassotherapy center. In July and August, the resort is quite noisy - crowds of vacationers come here - from Slovenia, the closest Italy and Austria, and our compatriots, of course. For the same reason, there is no shortage of Russian-speaking guides in summer Portorož.
