Bangkok airport to city. How to get from Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport to the city center. High-speed metro line City Line. Transfer between airports

Getting from Bangkok airport to the city center is quick and cheap because international Airport Bangkok (Suvarnabhumi Airport) is located less than 30 km. from the city center, and is connected to it by the high-speed metro line (Airport Rail Link). You can also take a taxi from the airport to the center of Bangkok. The pleasure of a taxi ride is much more expensive, but this type of transport will take you directly to the door of your hotel, which is especially true if your hotel is located far from metro stations.

In addition to the metro and taxi, earlier it was possible to get from the airport to the city center by scheduled municipal buses, however, after the construction of a metro line connecting Suvarnabhumi Airport with the center of Bangkok in 2010, this type of transport has lost its relevance, and the stop of these buses was first taken out of the airport, and later most of these buses were completely canceled.

Update Dec 2017. At the end of 2017, BMTA (Bangkok Mass Transit Authority, a state-owned bus transportation company) opened the S1 bus route, from Suvarnabhumi airport on Khaosan Road. Detailed information about this route can be found.

Metro line from the airport to the center of Bangkok

The metro line, also known as the Airport Rail Link, connects Suvarnabhumi Airport with Phaya Thai Station, located in the very center of Bangkok. At the Phaya Thai station, you can transfer to the main line of the local metro. Trains from the airport run frequently, once every 15 minutes, the fare is 45 baht, the trip from the airport to the center of Bangkok takes 25 minutes.

Note. A transfer can also be made at Makkasan station, but not to the skytrain line (the main variety of the Bangkok metro), but to the classic MRT subway line. When planning your trips around Bangkok, it is useful to know that the two types of Bangkok subway, the skytrain (BTS) and the classic subway (MRT), are operated by different transport companies, and skytrain tickets are not valid for the subway, and vice versa.

Since 2015, except for the standard train on the route airport - downtown Bangkok the express train started running. The fare on it costs twice as much, 90 baht per person, a double gain in time, while not even close.

If you want to figure out your budget for a trip directly to the metro station you need, to 45 baht per person for the fare from the airport to the Phaya Thai station, you need to add from 20 to 40 baht for the metro ride in the city itself (fare in Bangkok depends on the distance ).

Update Jan 2019. At the beginning of 2019, a metro ride from Suvarnabhumi Airport to the center of Bangkok cost, as before, 45 baht.

Where is the metro station at Suvarnabhumi Airport connecting the airport to the city center

The metro station (Airport Rail Link station), from which trains run to the city center, is located on the lowest floor of Suvarnabhumi Airport, on the left side, if you look towards the exits from the airport building.

Finding this metro station is quite easy, just follow the numerous signs installed in the airport building. An example of such an index can be seen in the photo above.

How to use the Bangkok subway. Where and how payment is made.

The metro line connecting Bangkok airport to the city center is not much different from the rest of the Bangkok metro lines, and, like the rest of the local metro lines, works on the principle of zone payment. The fare, broken down by zone, is written both on ticket machines and on separate posters, and all relevant information is duplicated in English.

In addition to vending machines, tickets from the airport to the city can be bought at the metro ticket office located next to the vending machines, all of whose employees speak English quite tolerably. It should be noted that the employees of the local metro are friendly and will be happy to help you if you do not understand something.

There is one subtlety in the work of the airport metro line, which is worth mentioning in particular. Instead of paper tickets and fare cards that are familiar to us, a round plastic token with a magnetic strip inside acts as a ticket here. At the entrance to the metro station, this token must be attached to the turnstile reader, and then take it with you. The token must be kept until the end of the trip, because. You can exit the metro only by dropping the token into the slot of the turnstile at the exit. If you manage to lose your token, which sometimes happens, nothing terrible will happen, except for the fact that you have to pay the fare again.

Buses from Suvarnabhumi Airport to Khaosan Road. New bus route S1.

At the end of 2017, BMTA (Bangkok Mass Transit Authority, state-owned company, operator bus transportation) opened the S1 bus route, from Suvarnabhumi Airport to. The fare on this route is 60 baht per person, buses run from 6-00 to 20-00, with an interval of 30 minutes. The bus ticket counter is located near exit 7 of the airport building, on the same level where tickets to Pattaya are sold (exit 8) and where the exit to the taxi stand is located.

It is worth noting that the buses of the S1 route run fast, since most of the way they pass along a paid highway that is not loaded with traffic jams. As of December 2017, the Suvarnabhumi-Khaosan route was all over the airport, so it was not difficult to find this bus.

Taxi fare from airport to Bangkok city center

A taxi from Suvarnabhumi Airport to the center of Bangkok costs 400 - 500 baht, you can get to areas of Bangkok close to the airport for less than 300 baht. The fare is paid in accordance with the indications of the taximeter, in addition to this amount, 50 baht of the airport tax is paid (to the taxi driver on hand). If you use a paid highway, which can significantly speed up the trip, your costs will increase by another 30 - 100 baht.

If you are going to use taxi services for a trip from Suvarnabhumi Airport to the city center, it is useful to have some idea about both the features of the local service and taxi driver customs.

VIP taxi at Suvarnabhumi airport. This scam type of taxi should be avoided, despite the fact that it will be aggressively pushed to you. The only difference between a VIP taxi and an ordinary taxi (public taxi) is that the fare bill is three times higher than expected, but Toyota almost always acts as the promised limousine. vulgaris, like two drops of water similar to an ordinary city taxi.

Tricks from taxi drivers. Divorces by the taxi driver brethren happen not only at Suvarnabhumi Airport, and not only in Bangkok. However, in places of mass congestion of tourists, and Suvarnabhumi Airport occupies an honorable first place here, such divorces are especially frequent. Their main variety is the demand from taxi drivers for a fixed amount for paying the fare, which, as you might guess, will turn out to be more than it runs on the taximeter. In the event of such a turn of events, which actually happens often, it is recommended to be firm and say Magic word"taximeter", if necessary - several times. The result of pronunciation of this mantra will pleasantly please you.

The most profitable course is on the ground floor, where the metro is, exit to the City Line. There are no taxis and no parking! This is a place that has been tested for years and hundreds of tourists. It is especially beneficial for those who immediately go to the islands. I recommend.

How to get from Bangkok airport to the city

Of course, the first question that worries visitors to this huge airport is how to get into the city after your arrival. Below is a detailed description of how.

Suvarnabhumi Airport consists of one building where the arrival hall is on the 2nd floor and the departure hall is on the 4th floor. If suddenly someone will pick you up at the Bangkok airport, then the meeting point is near exit 3 on the right side when you get into the arrivals hall.

The ground floor of Suvarnabhumi Airport is for employees. Here you can find cheap canteens and the life of airport staff. People under the stairs sleep, eat, chat on smartphones, read books, communicate… Flight attendants come, take off their shoes, lay mats and eat rice from bags. The policemen are resting after their shift. Thais in business suits sit on the floor, plug devices into sockets and work. Fortunately, the floor is clean, there is air conditioning and wi-fi. Sockets, a whole set. Dark and cozy too. If you happen to hang out at Suvarnabhumi Airport for the night, I highly recommend the ground floor. The Thais have a type of recreation area there, farangs rarely come. 🙂

If no one picks you up, then there are several ways to get to the city.

From Bangkok airport to city center

How to get from Bangkok airport to city center?

Airport Rail Link (ARL)

Suvarnabhumi Airport is served by three railway lines that run from level B. So, you can get to the city by train, and there is even a choice: an express train to the center, or a city regular train.

  • Express trains leave every half an hour and run non-stop to the City Air Terminal at Makkasan Station. Travel time 15 minutes. The cost is 90 baht one way, 150 baht round trip.
  • SA City Line: Trains from Bangkok Airport to Phaya Thai Station with 6 stops along the route. The total travel time is 30 minutes. Tickets cost up to 45 baht (maximum fare).
  • Phaya Thai Express Line: Express train to Thai Station. The total travel time is 15 minutes. The cost is 90 baht one way, 150 baht round trip.

All trains run from 06:00 to 24:00. There is a place for luggage at the end of both trains. The railway station is located on the ground floor of the airport. To get there, follow the signs.

  • If you need to , take the BTS Phaya Thai subway, which is connected to the airport line. Drive two stations down the line (toward Udom Suk) and you will be at Siam station.
  • If you need to , take BTS Phaya Thai subway to Nana, Asok, Phrom Phong, Thong Lor and Ekammai. The cost of a ticket for BTS one way from 15 baht for one stop and 40 baht for the journey to the end.
  • If you need to , get off at the airport line 2 stations earlier - at Makkasan instead of Phaya Tha. From there you can take the MRT Phetchaburi metro. Sukhumvit Station is 1 stop away. There are 5 stations to go to Silom.

Taxi in Bangkok from the airport

The taxi rank is located on the 1st floor, so from the arrivals hall you will have to go down one level.

Taxi is ordered at the counter, then you get a tear-off ticket. One part of the ticket is for the taxi driver, the other part for the passengers. There is information and a number by which you can complain about a taxi if something happens. In general, the whole point is in this part of the ticket. Keep it and do not give it to the driver. And you never know what happens, unpleasant stories happen in Asia.

All taxis here are metered, so insist that the meter be on. The fare to the city center costs about 300 baht, but can be either more or less, depending on traffic and the destination. When ordering a taxi at the airport, you pay an additional airport tax of 50 baht.

The fees are also paid by the passenger. If you are driving to the city center, you must pass 2 toll zones. The first duty is 25 baht, and the second 45 baht, for a total of 70 baht.

Taxi from Bangkok airport to the center, as well as to the most popular holiday destinations in Thailand, can be booked online. At the same time, you can be sure in advance that a taxi will be waiting for you at the airport (the waiting time for a taxi ordered from a counter at the airport is more than an hour, plus huge queues). Prices are about the same. Sometimes ordering a taxi online is cheaper. Well, the most profitable taxi order is for a full car load, i.e. for 4 people, or for 7 people (when ordering a minivan).
– 2000 for 4 passengers
— 2200 per 4 passengers
— 2700 per 4 passengers

Bangkok Airport Bus

There are several routes, mainly dedicated to serving airport workers, as there are no storage shelves on the buses, but if you are backpacking, you can use this mode of transport.

Buses leave from the bus terminal. To get to the bus terminal, runs a free shuttle bus, working around the clock, with an interval of 5 to 20 minutes.

The bus departs from the 2nd and 4th floors. Bus stop located between gates 5 and 6 on these two floors. The fare is 20-45 baht per passenger.

You can take a bus from Bangkok Airport. At the same time, there are buses that run around the clock, only at night the interval increases to 1 time per hour. The fare is 34-36 baht.

The exact bus schedule can be found on the website of Bangkok Airport AOT (Airport Authority of Thailand).

For example, if you need to go to Khao San Road or the South Bus Station, then bus number 556 goes there. Cost 34 baht.

If you do not know where to get off on Khao San Road, sit on the right side of the bus, closer to the door, so you can see everything, and it will be easier to get off the bus. When you see the monument on the right, ring the bell and get off at the next stop. You will exit onto Rajchadamneon Ave., then you need to walk forward to the intersection. We pass to the other side of the road. We go along the street Tanao (Tanao road) a few steps. The entrance to Khao San Road will be on your left.

If you need BTS or MRT metro station, take bus 551 from Bangkok Airport. The bus is coming to BTS Victory Monument station.

By the way, the bus schedule often changes, and traffic jams make themselves felt. Therefore, in our opinion, it is more convenient to travel by train. independent tourists. Like on the Aeroexpress train in Moscow - quickly, clearly, everything is on schedule, and it's easy to plan future classes.

Free transfer between Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports

From Bangkok Airport you can take a free shuttle bus between Suvarnabhumi and Don Muang. The route operates from 5:00 to 12:00.

Minibus from Bangkok airport

Minivans are another option to get out of Thailand airport in Bangkok. They follow the same route as buses, only they go faster because they carry fewer passengers and make fewer stops. In our opinion, this is called a minibus 🙂

  • Bus ticket from 140 baht

For example, minivan number 551 also goes to the BTS Victory Monument metro, only faster, and the fare is 5 baht more than a regular bus (40 baht).

Minivans do not have space for luggage. Therefore, you definitely won’t carry a large suitcase, and with a backpack you can only sit in one place - behind the driver, you can more or less accommodate there. The fare is 40-70 baht. Tickets are bought from the driver.

Now among our compatriots it has become possible not only to go to Thailand on vacation, but downright to go there for a “wintering” for several months. And these people can be understood - great weather, fresh fruits, beautiful nature and unique color attract us like a magnet. But the first task that the traveler faces, and especially those who are in Thailand for the first time, is how to get from the airport to Bangkok?

In this article, we will try to describe in as much detail as possible your journey from the airport to Bangkok, how to make the trip as convenient and not very expensive as possible.

  • How to get from Suwannapum Airport to Bangkok

Suvannapum (Suvarnabhumi or Suvarnabhumi) is one of the most major airports South-East Asia, so you will definitely be impressed by its size. All direct flights from Russia end up here. Near Bangkok there is another airport, Don Mueang, to replace which Suvannapum was built. There is a free shuttle bus between the airports (tickets required).

Getting to Bangkok from Suvannapum Airport is quite simple, and there are many ways to choose from - the main thing is to choose the most convenient one. Let's start with trains.

    Subway or train

    • Cost: 45 baht
    • Travel time: 40 minutes
    • Opening hours: 06:00-24:00

From Suvanaphumm Airport to Bangkok can be reached by modern branded train city line. This is, in fact, the ground line of the local metro. On the way to the city center, the train makes 6 stops, so it makes sense to check the map in advance - it may not make sense for you to go to the final one. The names of the stops are "Lad Krabang", "Thap Chang", "Hua Mak", "Ramkamhaeng", "Makkasan", "Ratchaprarop", and the final station is "Phaya Thai", which is located in the city center. Here you can change to the green metro line.

The train station is located on the lower floor of the airport, and to find it, you should follow the signs "Train to City", which translates as "Train to the City".

You can buy a ticket at the ticket office. The system is somewhat reminiscent of ours: first there are ticket offices, followed by turnstiles, so you won’t be able to get through with a “hare”. The ticket, which actually turns out to be a token, costs 45 baht, which is approximately equal to 75-80 rubles at the exchange rate for June 2015.

    • Cost: 90 baht
    • Travel time: 15 minutes
    • Opening hours: 06:00-24:00

High-speed train (Express Line) from Suvannapum Airport to Bangkok - this is the same train as the City Line, with the only difference that the Express Line does not make stops between the airport and Phaya Thai station, and therefore will take you to the center of Bangkok twice faster, and therefore twice as expensive. An Express ticket costs 90 baht, that is, about 160 rubles. But the journey time is only 15 minutes, and there are much fewer people in the cars than in the City Line.

Trains depart from the same station as the City Line and tickets are sold at separate ticket offices next to the main ticket offices. Go through the turnstiles and get on the platform. Make no mistake: the blue train is the City Line and the red train is the Express Line.

    Bus

    • Cost: 35 baht
    • Travel time: 30-40 minutes

Buses at Suwannaphum Airport are insane. Stops are located at many exits from the arrivals area, so even if you take the first bus you come across, you will most likely reach Bangkok (but it’s better not to take the first one you get.

There are special Shuttle Buses that run around the clock between the airport and the Airport Transportation Center. Shuttle stops are located at exit 5 on the 4th floor and at exit 5 on the 2nd floor. Buses run every 20-30 minutes.

From transport hub(Public Transportation Center) can already be reached by bus to Bangkok. Routes No. 549-559 depart from here. There are also routes #389 to Pattaya, #390 to Talad Rong Kluea, #825 to NongKhai. At the transport center you can get detailed information about where each bus is heading and what stops it makes along the way. There is a one-way ticket on the bus for only 35 baht, which, you see, is inexpensive. There is also a direct bus from the airport to Pattaya city.

    Taxi

    • Cost: about 300-400 baht
    • Travel time: from 20 minutes
    • Opening hours: around the clock

Taxis in Thailand are not the same as taxis in Europe, for example. Taxi here is one of the most convenient ways get to Bangkok, especially if you are traveling in a big company. The cost of one trip to the city from the airport will cost you around 200-500 baht, which, translated into our money, is approximately 350-900 rubles. Taxi rides on the meter, plus 50 baht for landing at the airport. The final price depends on the distance and traffic jams.

There are two types of taxis - those that run on a meter and those that ride at a fixed price. The second option is always more expensive, but it is almost impossible to find it at the airport. Nevertheless, discuss this point in advance at the information desk or with the driver.

You can find the taxi rank at the airport at the sign "Public Taxi". This sign leads to a taxi kiosk, where English-speaking staff can help you figure out the cost of the trip and the address of the destination. For convenience, it is better to have a printout of the address of your hotel, its business card or a copy of the reservation.

    Moto and car rental

Right at the airport, you can rent a car or motorcycle using the services of local and international car rental companies. Avis, Budget, Thai Rent a Car, Europcar, Hertz and Sixt are represented in Suvannapum. Renting makes sense if you have to travel all over Thailand, and not just Bangkok. Inside the capital, it is cheaper and more convenient to travel by public transport or taxi.

You can rent a car on the spot or order a car that suits you in advance via the Internet. There are a lot of services that provide this service on the network, but we would recommend the official website of the Suvannapum Airport Guide, where you can see the availability of a car and order it by the time of your arrival.

Transfer from Suwannapum Airport to Bangkok

For those who stay in Bangkok, and not in other cities in Thailand, it will be convenient to use the transfer to the hotel. Transfer from Suvannapum airport to the point you need can be set in advance by filling out the form below. This method is good because there is a minimum of effort, even less than in the taxi version. You can find out the price by filling out the search form below.

How to get from Don Mueang Airport to Bangkok

Bangkok's old airport is called Don Muang, and the newer Suvannapum has practically replaced it. Now Don Mueang Airport serves only 5-6 airlines, among which is the popular low-cost AirAsia. The airport consists of three terminals, but passport control upon arrival takes place in one place, so there is actually one arrival area.

    Train

    • Cost: 5-20 baht
    • Travel time: 1 hour
    • Opening hours: 3:14-22:16 from the airport and 4:20-22:25 from Bangkok

Opposite the airport there is a train station from which you can get to Bangkok in an hour. A ticket is bought from the machines at the entrance and costs about 5 baht to the main station of the city Hua Lamphong Train Station. To purchase, you must select the starting and ending stations of the trip: Don Muang and Bangkok.

The first trains depart from the airport station at 3:14 am, and the last at 22:16. In the train schedule, you can see that they should run frequently (about two departures per hour), but in reality the schedule is not respected, the trains are late or delay sending. Keep this in mind when planning your time.

The train is a cheap but not the most pleasant way to get from Don Mueang Airport to Bangkok. Shabby carriages and not always the most pleasant company can leave you best first impression of Thailand. It will also be a problem to pass in things from the airport to the station.

    Bus

    • Cost: from 20 baht
    • Travel time: 40 minutes or more

The bus stop is easily located on the right side of the exit from the airport. A lot of pointers lead to it, so there should not be any problems here. There are several routes to Bangkok: No. 504 to Lumpini Park and Silom district (you can transfer to the metro on each of them), No. 29 to railway station Hua Lamphong Train Station (trains from Don Muang also follow there), No. 59 to Sanam Luang Square (the main square of the historical part of Bangkok), No. 510 to the Victory Monument and southern bus station, No. 513 to the eastern bus station.

Be careful: if there is a red sign near the windshield of the bus, or somewhere it is written that the bus is “additional”, then this route is additional and does not go to the final stop. And where it should be written in Thai, so it's better to ask the locals at the bus stop (if there are any).

A ticket is bought inside the bus from the conductor and costs from 20 baht (depending on the stop you are going to). It's pretty cheap way to get to Bangkok from Don Mueang Airport, especially given that there are routes that will take you directly to historical center city, and you do not have to spend money on the subway or taxi to start exploring Bangkok immediately upon arrival.

Many travelers in Bangkok are faced with the fact that transfers between flights are not carried out within one airport, but between Don Mueang Airport and Suvannapum. So between the two airports it is also convenient to travel on free branded buses. The stop is located to the left of the airport building (go outside from the arrivals hall and go to the very end of the building to the left). Travel time is unpredictable due to traffic but can be limited to around 30-90 minutes. Free buses to Suvannapum go every half hour to forty minutes between 5 am and 12 am.

If, on the contrary, you follow from Suvarnabhumi to Don Muang, then you should ask the tourist information desk about the location of the stop, as it changes periodically.

    Taxi

    • Cost: 150-400 baht
    • Travel time: from 30 minutes
    • Opening hours: around the clock

Taxi stands, as usual, are located in the arrivals hall of Don Mueang airport. And the taxis themselves are at the exit. The cost of the trip is approximately equal to 200-300 baht to Bangkok.

We wrote in detail about the taxi system in Thailand in the "Taxi" section from Suvarnabhumi Airport. We only add that this is the only way to get from Don Mueang to Bangkok at night, that is, from somewhere from 11 pm to the first train at 3:14.

Transfer from Don Mueang Airport to Bangkok

Transfer - a taxi that can be ordered in advance via the Internet, and which will take you right to the door of the hotel. You can order a transfer or find out the price on many sites on the network, or by filling out the form below.
