Tourists traveling with children should definitely visit the town of Staro Boleslav (also called Brandys nad Labe - due to its location). It is here that the annual restoration of the events of the Thirty Years' War is held. But the event is not limited to costumed action alone: a noisy fair is located near the local park, where you can get souvenirs, try local beer, and just feel the Czech flavor.

An interesting fact is that earlier Brandys nad Laboe and Staro Boleslav were two separate settlements, but they were united relatively recently: in the second half of the twentieth century.

But there is something to see and try in Melnik. In particular, this is a local beer, as well as two varieties of wine that once brought fame to this town. You can try the product of Czech winemakers in a local castle. Like any self-respecting Czech town, Melnik boasts a monumental structure standing at the mouth of two rivers, the Vltava and the Elbe. The castle itself is called the Castle of the Queens - according to local legends, it was here that the kings moved their spouses who bored them.

Why go? Karlovy Vary, or as the city is also called, Karslbad, is a world famous mineral spa, so most tourists come here to relax their body and soul. However, a lot of interesting things can be seen by those who came here for just 1 day. Firstly, if you are interested in the healing part of the resort, then it makes sense to walk through all 15 colonnades, in which the famous mineral springs are concentrated: starting from the source No. 1 of the Geyser colonnade, then to the Wells, the Market colonnade, the Charles IV Spring, the Market Spring , Castle Colonnade, Mill (in which there are as many as 5 different sources), Freedom Spring, Garden Colonnade and the last, Serpentine. By the way, Becherovka, the famous local alcoholic drink, is considered the 13th missed source. Of course, this is more of a joke than the truth, although the locals advocate the medicinal properties of the drink.

In addition to springs, the mandatory program of sightseeing in Karlovy Vary includes the city center - Vrzhidelni Street. Colored, like gingerbread houses, adorn the very heart of Karlovy Vary, which pleases the eye here, even in late autumn and winter, when nature falls asleep for a while. By the way, returning to Becherovka, in Karlovy Vary there is a whole museum of Jan Becher, in which they tell and show how the famous drink is created. There is also a museum of glass art "Moser" in the resort. It is at the local factory that the world-famous Moser glass is produced. Several temples of architectural interest have been preserved on the territory of the resort, for example, the Catholic Church of St. Mary Magdalene and the Orthodox Church in the name of all the holy apostles Peter and Paul.

In addition to the majestic cathedral, many churches, chapels and monasteries have been preserved in Kutna Hora. The most significant are the Church of St. James, the Italian Courtyard, the Cathedral of the Ascension, the Church of All Saints, the Chapel of the Body of the Lord, etc. Many tourists, as part of an excursion, or alone, also visit the ossuary in Sedlice, located on the outskirts of the city, but this "fun" is not for everyone , a particularly impressionable entrance is not recommended. The town is small, so one day is enough to visit this 20,000-strong urban settlement.

Why go?Český Krumlov, in its own way, is a unique city in South Bohemia, which has preserved many cultural and historical values; it is not for nothing that the city center is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The central composition of the city is the Krumlov Castle, made in several styles from Gothic to Renaissance and Baroque, due to the fact that the construction of the castle went on for more than a century. Be sure to visit the theater located on the territory of the castle, which has preserved unique scenery and working mechanisms. There are many interesting museums in Dresden, for example, it is worth going to the Green Vaults Museum, which keeps a unique collection of jewelry and precious stones. There is also an armory in Dresden, and the Bundeswehr Museum, and the Porcelain Museum, and the Zoological Museum, so that everyone here will find something to do with their interests. Why go? Saxon Switzerland is a region of Saxony in Germany, famous for its Elbe sandstone mountains, forming bizarre shapes. The settlements closest to the mountains are the Rathen resort. The famous Bastei Bridge and the Königstein Fortress are located on the territory of the Saxon Switzerland National Park. In the park, every turn, there is a new panoramic platform, the views of the Bastei Gorge and the unique semi-arched bridge are considered especially spectacular views. I must say that this place was discovered by tourists a long time ago, so walking here is extremely convenient - everything is done for the convenience of even an unprepared physically traveler. In addition to the bridge, be sure to check out the Königstein fortress, built in the 11th century and located on a sheer cliff overlooking the Elbe River.

It takes only 40 minutes to get to the castle by train from the main train station in Prague, then a short walk, and you find yourself in a picturesque place, over which the powerful medieval castle Karlstejn rises. The premises of the castle are not particularly interesting, I advise you to take a walk around it and dine in one of the restaurants in the village, and then go to the Křivoklát castle, which is located 40 km from Karlštejn.

7. Kutná Hora and Ossuary

Skoda is perhaps the most famous brand in the Czech Republic, well, after beer, of course. :) So, car lovers will be happy to know that not far from Prague is the birthplace of the auto giant - the city of Mlada Boleslav. In the museum you will get acquainted with the history and development of the automaker, see more than 300 restored exhibits, including some modern Skoda models. The Skoda Museum, of course, is not as big and cool as the Mercedes Museum in Germany, but as a technology lover I really liked it. In addition to visiting the museum, Skoda organizes group and individual tours of the production, the registration is carried out much in advance on the official website of the company.

After the museum, you can walk around the city of Mlada Boleslav - a small town, and a walk + lunch will take you a couple of hours.

9. Liberec + Frýdlant Castle

Are you not attracted by crowds of tourists in popular Czech towns and castles? Then it's time for you to go to and in the north-east of the Czech Republic. In Liberec, you can walk along the central square with one of the most beautiful town halls in the Czech Republic and the television tower on Mount Ještěd, which is the symbol of the city. Travelers with children will be interested in the Liberec Zoo and the large water park Babylon.

10. Tropical Island Water Park

Since we have touched on the topic of traveling with children, your children will be delighted with visiting Tropical Island. Tropical Island is a giant indoor water park in Germany, 300 km from Prague between Berlin and Dresden. In fact, the water park is a small tropics under the roof, which has a waterfall, a tropical lagoon and beaches, palm trees, steep water slides, a tropical rainforest and an open part of the water park called Amazonia. The water park has an area with various types of saunas and steam rooms. And the last feature of the water park is the opportunity to stay overnight here - on the territory of the water park you can spend the night in tents, comfortable mobile homes or in hotel rooms.

The beautiful Konopiste Castle was rebuilt by Archduke Franz Ferdinand from a Gothic military fortress. The castle got romantic touches of the Renaissance, an English-style park was created with rose bushes, terraces and marble statues.

The prince's passion for collecting led to the appearance of a huge number of fine examples of weapons, paintings, tapestries and hunting trophies in the castle. All this can be seen by ordering a tour of the castle. From Prague, you can get there both by rail and by bus, the journey will last no more than an hour.

Deep-over-Vltava

The city is located in the south of the country and is famous for its castle Gluboka. This castle is one of the most picturesque in all of the Czech Republic. It was built in the 13th century and then changed over 25 owners. In the 19th century, the castle fell into the hands of the Schwarzenberg dynasty, and the new owner decided to reconstruct the building - to remake it under the neo-Gothic style. This appearance has preserved this castle to this day.

The castle has a stunning landscaped park. It has everything that befits a decent landscape park: rare trees, ponds, outbuildings. Well, inside the main building you can see ancient weapons and armor, a library and dishes, as well as climb a beautiful tower.

Kutna Hora

If you take a train from Prague's main station to, then you will need a little more than an hour. This ancient town is famous for its silver mines. The entire historic center of this small Gothic-style town is included in the UNESCO register.

Here you can admire the Chapel of All Saints, this gloomy building stands in the very center of the cemetery. In this strange place, you can see a chandelier made of human bones and jewelry made from them. An explanation of this unusual use of human remains can be obtained during the guided tour offered to visitors.

in the center of the city there is an amazingly beautiful Cathedral of St. Barbara.

This temple was built at the expense of miners and is a symbol of the successful struggle of the townspeople with representatives of the Cistercian order for an independent spiritual life. Since funds for the construction of the cathedral were allocated depending on the profitability of local mines, the construction of the cathedral went on for many years. Sometimes work had to be stopped altogether if things were not going well at the local mines. The cathedral was built from the end of the 14th to the beginning of the 20th century!

By the way, you can visit the mine itself. It is located under the Silver Museum, because it was mined in Kutna Hora. The museum is located in Hradek Castle, where you can see medieval frescoes. And after that, get the necessary equipment and go down underground.

In addition to the above, in Kutna Hora you can see several other church buildings, a mint and decorative stone structures of the medieval era.

Brno

Tourists will like the calm atmosphere and at the same time the presence of many interesting places. Not all tourists reach this city, but it is worth it, because there is something to see in it.

Thus, Spielberg Castle is considered the dominant feature of the city. It was founded in the 13th century, and withstood many sieges. For some time the castle was a prison, and therefore it is surrounded by many legends, and inside you can look at the exposition dedicated to the instruments of torture.

In the vicinity of Brno is a stunning natural wonder: the Moravian Karst. This is a complex of caves rich in stalactites and stalagmites, inhabited by bats. In the caves, you can take a boat trip along the underground river. By the way, Moravian Karst is not only caves, but also forest paths, clean lakes and rivers.

Walking along the streets of the city itself, you should pay attention to typical European sights. Among them is the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul, which you can not only look at, but also climb to the observation deck and listen to an organ concert. Or the Old Town Hall, in the ensemble of which Baroque and Renaissance details are intertwined.

Every European town has its own interesting square. In Brno, you should definitely go to the square called the Cabbage Market. Both in the Middle Ages and at present, active trade is carried out on it, and the square is surrounded and decorated with a real palace, an interesting fountain, and a plague column. Not only the square itself is interesting... but also what is underneath it - namely, a real labyrinth of utility rooms, where you can also book a tour.

Cesky Krumlov

It is located in the south of the Czech Republic, and it is interesting because its castle complex is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. In addition to castles, there is also a stunning park, the Vltava River flows through the city, along the embankment of which it is worth taking a walk at dusk.

There are many small, colorful museums in the town: in addition to the typical Regional Museum, you can visit the Fairy Tale House or the Puppet Museum, which will appeal to those who travel with their families, with children, go to the brewery and join the real gold of the Czech Republic - the art of brewing an intoxicating drink.

Olomouc

A city in the east of the country, in the center of the Moravia region. Founded in the 13th century. Few tourists know about this city, but meanwhile, it is no less beautiful than Prague itself.

The main beauty of Olomouc is the squares with fountain complexes, reflecting the flamboyant Baroque style. And one of the squares is adorned with a sculptural group, stunning in its grandeur: the Column of the Holy Trinity (also marked by UNESCO). There are a lot of temples in the city: the Cathedral of St. Wenceslas, the Church of St. Mauritius and others.

Pilsen

Pilsen is worth visiting for several reasons. The city also has some interesting sights: the highest cathedral in the country, St. Bartholomew, the town hall, monasteries and a historical dungeon.
The city will appeal to young people and gourmets - connoisseurs of true Czech beer.

This city is considered the brewing center of the country, where you can visit a brewing company, learn about beer varieties, brewing technology, and, if you wish, taste a foamy drink.

Well, young tourists in this city should definitely take a ride on the children's railway, visit the zoo and the science center with models of dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals.

Karlovy Vary

This city will be of particular interest to those who want to improve their health, the resort has been known for centuries - both ruling persons and brilliant creators were treated there. However, even if you don’t want to go to Czech sanatoriums for a few weeks, it’s worth just stopping by this city for a day to explore it.

Connoisseurs of the elegant Baroque style will especially like it, because the city is almost entirely decorated in this style. Decorative elements of buildings can be viewed for hours. The city has beautiful colonnades in which mineral springs are located.

If you are in Karlovy Vary for a short time, take a look from all the others to the local Museum of Local Lore. From its exposition, you can learn a lot about the life of the Czechs, their traditions, look at costumes and household items.

Other notable places in the Czech Republic

Budec

Want to see the oldest surviving building in the country? Fans of antiquity should go to the ancient settlement of Budec. The Rotunda of Saints Peter and Paul was built around the 9th century and still stands there.

Budeč was the most important settlement of the ancient principality, and now numerous pilgrims flock to the rotunda. In addition to the rotunda, you can also see the ruins of an ancient fortress, which were carefully examined in their time by archaeologists.

Holasovice

This is a village located in the south of the Czech Republic. What is interesting about the village, it would seem? Yes, because it is not simple - and even included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The architecture of the Czech Republic is not only pompous palaces or impregnable fortresses, not only majestic cathedrals and narrow streets of cities. In Holasovice, you can admire a sample of folk architecture - buildings from the 18th and 19th centuries.

If you want to take a break from big cities, then you should go to this village, admire the clean, tidy and skillfully decorated houses, and relax on the pond.

What you need to know about the Czech Republic is that it has not only interesting towns, but also more “specialized” tourist areas and destinations. The country has ski resorts and balneological resorts, there is no sea - but recreation on the lakes is popular - swimming, relaxation, water sports. There are several national parks and many castles. There are large cities and small, cozy towns.

At almost every point on your route, you can at the same time taste hearty Czech cuisine, buy a few souvenirs, and maybe chat with the locals - the Russian language is quite well known in the country. If you have the opportunity, go not only to Prague in 2019, but look at the Czech Republic more widely - you will not be disappointed!
