Story

Aviation enthusiast, entrepreneur Artur Antonovich Anatra in 1908, he bought a piece of land in the steppe, near the military training ground Shooting field, placing workshops for the repair and assembly of aircraft there (since 1913 - Factory airplanes Anatra), an flying club (since 1910 - a pilot school) and a school airfield that served for training and test flights. Later, the name "School" was officially assigned to the airfield.

The history of the airport in Odessa began in 1924. Then an air station was opened at the Shkolny airfield, which received the first technical flight on May 21, and on May 25 - the first passenger flight of Ukrvozdukhput along the route Kharkiv - Zinovievsk - Odessa. A flight was opened a little later Odessa - Kyiv - Chernihiv - Moscow, and from the beginning of the 1930s, flights were opened along the line Odessa - Nikolaev - Krivoy Rog - Dnepropetrovsk - Kharkiv on the first Soviet passenger airplane K-5(the flight lasted about 6 hours with three landings).

From the late 1940s until 1961, the main airport in Odessa was the Zastava airport (with a dirt runway 800 m long). Since 1961 it has been used to perform aviation work(primarily agricultural) airplanes An-2 And helicopters, then closed. In the 1960s - 1980s, from the Zastava airport, a large number of passenger flights on An-2 aircraft to regional centers and large villages Odessa region. In 1994, the Zastava airport was closed, now it has entered the territory of the Western cemetery of the city of Odessa.

In 1960, on the territory of the Shkolny state aviation airfield, an artificial runway was built for the airport (at its current location) 2800 meters long, an apron, and then a building terminal(since then, the Shkolny airfield (on which the aircraft repair plant and the aviation of the border troops are still based) does not have its own artificial runway, and uses the airport strip for takeoffs and landings). Entered service in 1961 new airport Odessa and began to accept jet passenger aircraft Tu-104. Odessa Airport was one of three airports in the Ukrainian SSR that could receive this type of airliners.

The main facilities of the airport, on the basis of which the Odessa United Air Squadron, created in 1961 as an independent enterprise, were built in 1960-1961 (runway, taxiways, parking lots aircraft, aviation technical base, building air traffic control and others). The area of the airport is 570.8 hectares.

Airport complex, total throughput which, as of 2013, is 400 passengers per hour, is designed to serve international and domestic lines. IN 1982 a cargo terminal was built.

Characteristics

On December 7, 2016, he landed at the airport for the first time Boeing 767-300 for which the airport is not certified. The Manchester United team arrived in Odessa on this plane.

The airfield, built 50 years ago, was practically not reconstructed in subsequent years. The main discrepancies are in the condition of airfield pavements (poor evenness and insufficient bearing capacity), in their insufficient geometric dimensions, as well as in the complex longitudinal and transverse profiles of the runway and taxiways.

The structure of the runway pavement, taxiways, aprons and aircraft parking areas is represented by rectangular cement concrete slabs 24-26 cm thick on a compacted soil base, reinforced with two-layer asphalt concrete 16-20 cm thick, (for RD-1 - two-layer asphalt concrete 12 cm thick with a reinforcing geogrid ). Bearing capacity of airfield pavements (classification number ACN-PCN): Runway - 30/R/C/X/T; MRD (1 account) - 21/R/B/X/T; MRD (2 accounts) - 16/R/B/X/T; platform - 17/R/C/X/T.

Airport reconstruction

As of summer 2013, renovations are ongoing. During his visit to the site, the former mayor of Odessa Alexey Kostusev noted that there is clear progress in the construction of a new terminal. The zero cycle of construction has already been completed, that is, the foundation is completely ready. The frame of the building was also built up to the level of the third floor, and at the end of July it is planned to install the roof. On this moment frame readiness is 50%, by the end of the year it is planned to carry out internal work and begin installation of equipment. The project was scheduled to be completed in September 2014.

As of 03/03/2015, 85% of metal structures weighing more than 1000 tons have been assembled, 100% of the facade frame of the new terminal of Odessa International Airport has been completed. The construction of a transformer substation and the installation of an on-site storm sewer, the concreting of racks for teleport galleries, stairs, and elevator shafts have been completed. After the completion of the roofing works, the builders will start glazing the facade, installing internal networks and terminal equipment.

As of July 21, 2015, the roof was 100% installed. In the near future, the façade of the terminal is expected to be glazed; at the moment, racks are being installed that will hold the glass panels. After completion of these works, asphalting of the entrances to the main entrance of the terminal will begin. All communications necessary for the operation of the facility have already been laid.

On September 7, 2015, the director of Odessa International Airport LLC Andrey Shatyuk announced that the commissioning of the new terminal is planned for June 15, 2016. It is also planned to attract volunteers to test the terminal and transfer charter flights at the initial stage of its operation. In the near future, the installation of the facade and the improvement of the surrounding territories will be completed, after which the interior decoration of the building will begin.

Slightly earlier low-cost airline management Wizz Air expressed its interest in resuming cooperation with Odessa Airport. However, this will not happen until the construction of a new terminal and runway is completed at the airport.

On September 10, 2015, Minister of Infrastructure Andrey Pivovarsky announced that the construction of a new runway for Odessa Airport, which is 75% owned private company, given the priority of this project for the region, will be financed from the state budget. Construction may start in 2016 and end in 2017. The issue of both the construction of a new runway and the reconstruction of the old one is being considered. The project is estimated at $80-200 million. Negotiations are currently underway to raise the necessary funds. With whom, however, is not specified.

At the beginning of April 2016, the installation of the general sewerage system of the terminal was completed, which made it possible to finish pouring 2/3 of the floor area of the first floor. Installation of ventilation, smoke removal and fire extinguishing systems is underway. The installation of transitional galleries between the terminal building and the teleport receivers is being completed. The metal structures of the galleries are assembled on the ground, and then, using cranes, they are mounted to the terminal and receivers. By the end of this month, it is planned to complete the installation work electrical networks, fire alarm, water supply and sewerage systems by floors.

At the beginning of June, the terminal is 70% ready and will be put into operation in September. From now on, it will operate in test mode for 2-3 months, accepting domestic flights. The terminal will be fully operational in March 2017, when the work of the international checkpoint will be fully organized.

“The construction of the terminal is approaching the final stage.

Today there is a question about the need to build a new runway. Already this week, I plan to address the Prime Minister of Ukraine and the Minister of Infrastructure with a request to provide funds in the state budget for these purposes,” Gennady Trukhanov commented on the results of the working meeting.

In October 2016 Odessa City Administration came close to receiving government funding for the construction of a new runway. The mayor said that he discussed the issue of funding with Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman and Minister of Transport Andrei Pivovarsky. At the meeting, a roadmap of actions was developed, which will allow starting work in the near future. The construction of a new runway will cost UAH 1.6 billion. In addition to coverage, installation is provided modern equipment, which will allow you to take boards in adverse weather conditions.

At the end of January 2016, the terminal was put into operation, however, according to the mayor, the terminal will start accepting flights no earlier than spring 2017, and only domestic ones. The terminal was accepted by experts from Kyiv, and now the object is expected to be accepted by the local authorities.

The issue of allocating funds for the construction of a new runway, which the city plans to start in 2017 and finish by 2018, is also being decided. The estimated timeframe for the project is 26 months.

Launch of a new terminal

From April 15, 2017, the new terminal began to serve domestic flights. The first was flight 0057 of the airline UIA from Borispol. Also, the terminal will receive flights of Motor Sich airline from Kyiv airport.
