Acre Crimean Atlantis. Greek Atlantis on the eastern coast of Crimea. Where and how is the examination of the finds carried out

Acre - "Crimean Atlantis"

The Black Sea still keeps many secrets, this sea is unique in nature, but, perhaps, people do not always appreciate it properly. Many do not even suspect what secrets are hidden under the water of the Black Sea. One of these secrets, which has recently begun to open its veil, is the ancient city of Acre, today it is called the "Crimean Atlantis."

Antique settlement of the 5th century. BC e. - IV century. n. e., located on the seaside foot of the cape, part of the settlement was flooded by the sea. Acre belongs to the "small" cities of the Bosporus state.

“Behind the Nymphaeum, even further south, on Cape Takil, there was a very small village of Akra. It attracted attention in antiquity because the shore turned west from it, and thus Acre was the southernmost point of the strait from the side of Crimea. On the contrary, i.e. on Taman Peninsula, the village of Korokondama, located on the present Cape Tuzla, was considered such the most southern point of the strait. According to Strabo, when the strait was frozen, the ice reached these two points in the south - to Acre and Korokondama. There are almost no traces of the village of Acre today. On a high cape, where the abandoned old lighthouse, only in some places traces of a cultural layer with fragments of ancient ceramics are visible. In the same area, ancient graves are found that confirm the existence in this place ancient settlements.

Acre is a mystery that has yet to be solved. And it all started at the end of the 18th century when the Crimea was annexed to the territory Russian Empire. This event marked the beginning of active scientific exploration of these lands. Scientists began to make their travels to new unexplored lands. In parallel, they tried to find the places of Greek cities known from ancient written sources.

In the Periplus of Pontus Euxinus, many cities are named on the banks of the Cimmerian Bosporus (Kerch Strait): Panticapaeum, Mirmekiy, Nymphaeum, Kitey and the village of Acre. Strabo, Greek geographer of the 2nd c. n. e., indicated that Acre was located opposite Korokondama at the entrance to the strait. And Pliny the Elder, a Roman scientist, refers Acre to the Bosporan cities. Acre was also mentioned by Claudius Ptolemy, Stephen of Byzantium and Aelius Gordian.

Thanks to the research boom, by the beginning of the 20th century, almost all ancient cities were marked on modern maps, but nothing was clear with Acre - its ancient ruins could not be found. Initially, researchers were confused by the etymology of the name of the city, because the main and most common meaning of this name suggested that Acre should be located on an elevated place. Literally, the word "Acre" is translated as a hill or fortification. By the way, this is where the name “Acropolis” comes from, that is, the upper city.

The first to locate Acre on Cape Takil in the southeastern part of the Kerch Peninsula was Academician Pallas. He suggested this at the end of the 18th century. Paul Dubrux, one of the first scientists in Russian archeology, in early XIX century, he placed Acre just south of Takil, on the site of ancient settlement discovered by him. Until 1918, almost all researchers believed that Acre was located here, but suddenly a sensational discovery was made. Local fishermen accidentally found a cult table with an inscription mentioning the Kitean community. It immediately became clear to scientists that another Bosporan city, Kitey, was located here.

For the next sixty years, Acre was located on Taquila itself. In 1975, excavations were carried out during which an ancient Greek sanctuary was found, and now it seemed that the city had finally been found. But many scientists still had big doubts about the fidelity of the localization of Acre. The location of the two neighboring Greek cities, between which Acre was located - Nymphaeum and Kitei - had already been established accurately. Greek peripluses (ancient sailing directions) showed the distances between cities, and the distance from Kitei to Cape Takil was half that to Acre.

And if not for the winter storms in 1981, nothing would have cleared up. But suddenly, one lucky Kerch schoolboy began to find ancient coins on the banks of the sandy embankment that separates the salty Yanysh Lake from the Kerch Strait to the south of the village of Naberezhnoye, Leninsky District of Crimea. The student collected a fairly large collection of antique coins, moreover, from different periods. This find confirmed that scientists are not dealing with a blurry treasure, but with a flooded settlement. The coins were immediately transferred to the Kerch Museum and in the summer of 1982 the first excavations were carried out, on the embankment and on the hill south of the lake. It was then that large cultural strata of the ancient era were discovered. Finally, archaeologists encountered not an ordinary settlement, but a small urban center. It was a real sensation - an ancient city was discovered under water. Acre was finally found.

Underwater expeditions that began shortly after the first explorations established that the ancient city, which lay at a depth of up to 4.5 m, had a rectangular shape with an area of at least 4 hectares. To the east of it, more seaward and to a depth of 7.5 m, there was a harbor. Underwater research gave amazing results - defensive walls, two towers and a well were discovered. One of the walls was well preserved for as much as 110 m. From the floor side, a tower measuring 7x7 m adjoined the wall. Another defensive wall was examined 150 microns to the north. At 170 meters of the shore, at a depth of 3 m, there was a well lined with stones. And in it were seven branded amphoras of Heraclea Pontus of the 4th century BC. BC e., fragments of black-glazed pottery, a fragment of a lead anchor rod, wooden parts processed on a lathe.

An interesting fact is that in 1994-1997. Acre's archaeological research was continued by the same schoolboy who discovered the coin collection many years ago. Excavations on the coast were combined with underwater exploration of the flooded part of the city. On land, buildings of the Roman time were found - three large households. But due to lack of funding, the excavations were suspended.

And for the next 15 years, the city of Acre again turned out to be unfairly forgotten.

And only in 2011, underwater archaeologists from the Kyiv Department of Underwater Heritage and the St. Petersburg Hermitage again drew attention to a unique archaeological monument.

The modern period of development of underwater archaeological research in the Northern Black Sea region was marked by the resumption of large-scale work.

For the first time in Acre, not just visual reconnaissance was carried out, but really underwater excavations with the latest professional equipment. During two years of research, another section of the defensive wall of the city and urban development of the 4th century BC was found. BC e. The preserved height of the fortifications reached 1.6 m.

The opening of the house in the first half of the 4th century was a sensation. BC e. A broken Heraclean amphora was found on the floor. Wall masonry has been preserved in 3 rows, with a total height of up to 0.6 m. And such a good preservation of architectural remains under water is very unique. For example, in many other places on the Black Sea, such good preservation is not observed - all layers are eroded, the masonry is destroyed. But not in Acre.

It became clear that total area The monument occupied a large area from 4 to 6 hectares, while it was located at the ancient coastal level and is now almost completely flooded by the sea. Part of the layers of ancient times has been preserved on the modern coast. Under water were cultural strata dating back to the 4th century BC. BC e., and the layers - III-II centuries. BC e.

So, it turns out that Acre existed for almost 1000 years, from the end of the 6th century. BC e. before the beginning of the 4th c. n. e. Gradual flooding of the city territory began already with the beginning of a new era, due to changes in the level of the World Ocean and due to local geological processes of land subsidence. From the time of antiquity to the present day, the sea level has risen by 4 m. The studies carried out, of course, are very few to draw any conclusions in the study of Acre. But a start has been made and the city under water has already begun to reveal its secrets.

Found ancient city Acre has already been called the "Crimean Atlantis". But, unlike Atlantis, ancient Acre is in an untouched state and scientists have to make a lot of discoveries.

Not far from Kerch, at the foot of Cape Takil, at the southernmost point of the Kerch Strait, a group of underwater archaeologists of an international expedition is exploring the ancient city of Acre, which was swallowed up by the waters of the Kerch Strait several millennia ago.

The ancient city of Acre - a small ancient Greek seaport in the Crimea, which existed in the composition, from the end of the VI century BC. e. to the 4th century AD e. was located Acre on 3.5 hectares in the eastern part Crimean peninsula and was surrounded by a six-meter wall. This defense saved the city from enemy raids and storms. Due to geological changes coastline of the Black Sea and the formation of the Kerch Strait, under the water advancing on the city there was a part of the ancient settlement, and a 30-meter segment of the defensive wall of the ancient city of Acre.

The ancient name of the city of Acre is preserved in the name of the land measure - Acre(English) acre; fr. acre, lat. ager and acra, Celt. acre- field ) - land measure used in a number of countries with the English system of measures. 1 acre equal to 0.4 ha; 1 acre = 1/640 sq. miles. 1 acre. = 4046.86 m² ≈ 0.004 km²

In the depths of the sea, researchers have a view of the defensive walls of the ancient city of Acre. All archaeological layers of the ancient city have been preserved under water in an untouched, undisturbed state.

Over the past two years it has been found a large number of architectural structures in excellent preservation. The head of the archaeological expedition, Viktor Vakhoneev, considers the ancient city of Acre a real treasure trove for underwater archaeologists, who call the ancient Greek city of Acre the "Crimean Atlantis".

Underwater archaeologists explore the residential quarters of the ancient city. The layout of the streets of ancient Acre and ancient residential buildings, houses in which people once lived, are well preserved. Furniture, utensils, a female comb were found, similar items are not preserved on land at all, but they survived in the sea and were found in their original form. Defensive walls of the city were found in the study area, 3-4 rows of masonry more than 1 m 60 cm high were preserved under water. Archaeologists mapped most of the masonry.

Leading researcher of the State Hermitage Sergei Solovyov, who is participating in the underwater expedition, notes that a large number of fragments of ancient ceramic dishes, clay amphoras for transporting wine, oil, fish, grain and other products were found on the territory of the city of Acre.

The inhabitants of the city of Acre were engaged in trade, fishing and shipping. Acre researchers determined that it was not a very large trading city of the Bosporus kingdom, covering an area of 4 hectares. The presence of defensive walls around the city indicates that Acre was ready for defense and knew how to defend itself from nomadic raids.

The Black Sea Underwater Research Center is now preparing routes for underwater excursions around the ancient city of Acre for tourists, lovers of underwater adventures, and divers. Creation of the underwater archaeological park "Crimean Atlantis" in ancient Acre takes place with the support of the public and the Council of Ministers of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.

Viktor Vakhoneev, head of the underwater archeology department of the Black Sea Underwater Research Center, is sure that underwater excursions around the ancient Greek city of Acre will be very popular among tourists. This object is most suitable for underwater excursions, as it is located at a shallow sea depth, no more than 4 meters. An archaeological expedition is currently working in the underwater Acre off the coast of Kerch.

In parallel with the work of archaeologists, tourists-divers are invited to excursion route entitled "Participant of an underwater archaeological excursion." Tourists, lovers of underwater adventures, are offered to make an unforgettable underwater walk along the ancient Acre, and watch the work of underwater archaeologists.

In these places, there is still a lot of fish and crabs. Those who know how to catch crayfish can easily cope with catching sea crabs. For lovers of spearfishing, the amazing underwater world of the Black Sea opens up.
Viktor Vakhoneev believes that it will be interesting for tourists to dive themselves and, together with archaeologists, take part in research work under water.

The head of the Department of Underwater Archeology of the Black Sea Underwater Research Center says that the ancient Acre has been registered this year as historical monument and protected by the state. The Crimean Ministry of Resorts and Tourism is interested in creating the first underwater archaeological park in Ukraine on the basis of the archaeological expedition.

The Black Sea is fraught with many secrets, it is unique in its nature and we, perhaps, do not always appreciate it properly. Most domestic divers tend to go to the resorts of Egypt, Turkey, the Maldives, not quite understanding, and not knowing what secrets are hidden under the waves of our sea. One of these secrets, which has recently begun to open its curtain to us, is the ancient city of Acre, nicknamed the "Crimean Atlantis". Let's plunge into the romance of underwater archeology, scientific research and simple recreational diving.

Acre is a kind of "Terra Incognita". At the end of the 18th century, Crimea was annexed to the territory of the Russian Empire. This event marked the beginning of an active scientific survey of these lands. Scientists-encyclopedists began to make their travels to new lands. In parallel, they tried to localize the places of Greek cities known from ancient written sources.

The "Periplus of Pontus Euxinus" names many cities on the banks of the Cimmerian Bosporus (Kerch Strait): Panticapaeum, Mirmekiy, Nymphaeum, Kitey and the village of Acre. Strabo, Greek geographer of the 2nd c. AD, indicated that Acre was located opposite Korokondama at the entrance to the strait. But Pliny the Elder, a Roman scientist, ranks Acre among the Bosporan cities. In addition, Acre was mentioned by Claudius Ptolemy, Stephen of Byzantium and Aelius Gordian.

By the beginning of the 20th century, almost all ancient cities were localized on modern maps, but there were minor problems with Acre - they could not find its remains. The etymology of the name of this city initially confused researchers, since the main and most common meaning suggested that Acre would be on an elevated place, because literally the word "Acre" is translated as a hill or fortification. It is from here that the name "Acropolis" - the upper city - comes from.

Academician P.S. Pallas was the first to give Acre a “registration permit” at the end of the 18th century, placing it on Cape Takil in the southeastern part of the Kerch Peninsula. Paul Dubrux, one of the pioneers of Russian archeology, at the beginning of the 19th century placed Acre a little south of Takil, on the site he had discovered. Until 1918, almost all researchers were convinced that there was Acre, but a sensational discovery was made. Local fishermen found a cult table with an inscription that mentioned the Kitean community. It became clear that another Bosporan city, Kitey, was located here.

For the next 60 years, Acre was located on Taquila itself. When excavations were carried out here in 1975 and an ancient Greek sanctuary was found, it seemed that the city had finally been found. But many researchers had doubts about the fidelity of the localization of Acre. The location of the two neighboring Greek cities, between which Acre was located - Nymphaeum and Kitei - was precisely established. Greek peripluses (ancient sailing directions) informed us of the distances between cities, and the distance from Kitei to Cape Takil was half that to Acre.

After the winter storms of 1981, one Kerch schoolboy began to find ancient coins on the banks of the sandy bay separating the salty Yanysh Lake from the Kerch Strait south of the village of Naberezhnoye, Leninsky District of Crimea. The lucky schoolboy has collected quite a significant collection of antique coins from different periods. This confirmed that here scientists are not dealing with a simple blurry treasure, but with some kind of flooded settlement. The coins were transferred to the Kerch Museum and already in the summer of 1982, an employee of the Kerch Museum V. Kholodkov conducted the first excavations, both on the embankment and on the hill south of the lake, during which powerful cultural strata of the ancient era were discovered. It became clear that archaeologists were faced not with an ordinary settlement, but with a small urban center. There was a sensation in science - an ancient city under water was discovered. Acre was finally found...

Underwater studies begun shortly after the first discoveries by the detachment of the Bosporan expedition of the LOIA of the USSR Academy of Sciences, led by K. Shilik, established that the ancient city, which lay at a depth of up to 4.5 m, had a rectangular shape in plan, with an area of at least 4 hectares. To the east of it, more seaward and to a depth of 7.5 m, there was a harbor. During underwater reconnaissance 1983-1985. defensive walls, two towers and a well were discovered. One of the walls is well preserved over 110 m. On the floor side, a tower measuring 7 x 7 m adjoined the wall. Another defensive wall was examined 150 m to the north. A well lined with stones was found 170 m from the shore at a depth of 3 m. In its filling, seven branded amphoras of Heraclea Pontica of the 4th century BC were found. BC, fragments of black-glazed pottery, a fragment of a lead anchor rod, wood details processed on a lathe.

Archaeological exploration of Acre continued in 1994-1997. the same schoolboy who 15 years ago discovered a collection of coins. He graduated from university and became an archaeologist. Excavations on the coast were combined with underwater reconnaissance of the flooded part of the city. On land, the buildings of the Roman time were studied - three large households. But for the next 15 years, the city of Acre again turned out to be unfairly forgotten.

Only in 2011, underwater archaeologists from the Kyiv Department of Underwater Heritage and the St. Petersburg Hermitage again drew attention to this unique archaeological monument.

The modern period of development of underwater archaeological research in the Northern Black Sea region was marked by the resumption of large-scale work in Phanagoria, Olbia and Chersonese. Conducted total reconnaissance in the water area South Shore Crimea, medieval shipwrecks in the Novosvetskaya Bay are being comprehensively studied, a sensational find was made off Serpent Island: a merchant ship of the 4th c. BC. with a load of amphoras from Peparet. In the light of these events, ancient Acre also could not remain out of sight of archaeologists.

Diving has recently become a very popular and popular sport and recreation. This led to the involvement in the ranks of the expedition not only of researchers, but also members of the military-historical diving club "St. Andrew's Flag". Collaboration between professional archaeologists and professional divers and volunteer divers from different countries allowed to get significant results in just two seasons.

For the first time in Acre, not just visual reconnaissance was carried out, but real underwater excavations with professional diving equipment. For two years of research, a section of the defensive wall of the city and urban development of the 4th century BC was excavated. BC. The preserved height of the fortifications reached 1.6 m.

A peculiar sensation was the opening of the house of the first half of the 4th century. BC. So far, only one of its premises has been studied, with an area of 25 square meters. m. A broken Heraclean amphora was found on the floor. Wall masonry has been preserved in 3 rows, with a total height of up to 0.6 m. Such preservation of architectural remains under water is unique. Neither in Olbia, nor in Chersonese, nor in other places where we carry out our underwater archaeological research, this is not observed - all layers are eroded, the masonry is destroyed. But not in Acre.

We were able to sketch and put on the plans the main elements of urban development, such as: defensive walls (and, apparently, the so-called northern defensive wall dates back to Roman times), stone pavements, and premises of city houses. For excavations of the ancient city, hydroejectors are used for shallow depths, and special plastic tablets are used for underwater drawings and records. Each member of the expedition has the necessary diving skills and basic knowledge in the field of archeology.

It has already become a tradition of the expedition to invite underwater archaeologists from Poland to join it, friends whom I was lucky to meet at the Gdansk Maritime Museum at the UNESCO advanced training courses for underwater archaeologists. A number of Hermitage researchers, professional archaeologists, took special diving courses to participate in our underwater expedition. And this year we were glad to honor divers from Lithuania and Vietnam in our ranks. A Russian diver, underwater photographer, volunteer Ernst Antonov from the Krasnodar Territory has been cooperating with us for a number of years now.

Any real underwater archaeological expedition is very different from simple dives, when if the site is not interesting, it is changed. In 2012, we spent 1.5 months on Acre, some discoveries were accompanied by routine household issues, periodic storms. And in general, digging under water is a very delicate and painstaking business. Therefore, I am very grateful to all our participants for their work, since the expedition is not only the joy of new discoveries, but, first of all, the team of like-minded people. We were lucky both with discoveries and with the team.

Acre existed for almost 1000 years, from the end of the VI century. BC. before the beginning of the 4th c. AD The gradual flooding of the city territory began already with the beginning of a new era, both due to changes in the general level of the World Ocean, and due to local geological processes of land subsidence. From the time of antiquity to the present day, the sea level has risen by 4 m. Two years of research is, of course, a short time to draw conclusions in the study of Acre. But a start has been made: there is enthusiasm, desire too. The city under water has just begun to reveal its secrets to us.

Acre - city in Israel, in Western Galilee, on the coast mediterranean sea, about eighteen kilometers from the city of Haifa. The first mention of Acre dates back to 1456 BC: the name of the city is carved on the wall of the Karnak temple of Amun in Thebes among other cities conquered during the first military campaign of Thutmose III. It is known that in the fourteenth century BC the Hittites took possession of the city, but in the thirteenth century BC it was again recaptured by the Egyptians, led by the pharaoh Seti I. At that time it was a Canaanite city.

In 701, Acre was captured by Sennacherib, the Assyrian king. After that, the city was under the rule of Babylonia, and then under the power of the Achaemenids, under which it became a naval base, very important in the war against Egypt.

In 333 BC, Acre was conquered by Alexander the Great and turned into a Greek colony. Gradually, Acre becomes an important port and one of the largest cities Hellenistic era.

After the death of Alexander the Great, the city falls under the rule of the Egyptian Ptolemies, who rename it Ptolemais.

In 219 BC city of Acre becomes part of the Seleucid Empire and receives a new name - Antioch. After the death of Antiochus VII Sidet, the city, passing from one Hellenistic ruler to another, gradually becomes independent and receives the status of a free Greek policy.

Under Alexander Jannaeus, the Jewish Hasmonean state tried to capture Acre, and Jewish troops even laid siege to the city. However, Acre turned for help to Ptolemy Soter (Lafur), who was not slow to arrive with an army of thirty thousand. After this, the siege was lifted.

In 52-54 BC, through the efforts of Pompey, Acre becomes a possession of the Roman Empire. Under the Romans, the city significantly expanded its borders. The city retained its importance in the Byzantine era.

In 638, Acre was captured by the Arabs, during which a new port was built in the city in 804-868.

In 1104, during the First crusade acre was conquered by the Crusaders. However, in 1187 the city was taken by Saladin. Four years later, after a two-year siege, the crusaders return Acre to their possessions. The city becomes the capital of the Kingdom of Jerusalem. It is surrounded by powerful fortifications and given a new name - Saint-Jean d "Acre. The knightly orders of the Templars, Hospitallers, and then the Teutonic Order build hospitals, residential buildings, warehouses, administrative buildings and churches in the city. Crusader orders, as well as merchants from Pisa, Genoa, Venice fought endless disputes over spheres of influence in the city.In 1256, there is an armed conflict between the Genoese and the Venetians, called the War of St. Sava, and the knights of the orders are gradually drawn into it. They destroy the city and massacre many Christians and Jews. After that, Acre existed for four hundred years as a small fishing village. The city was rebuilt only in the middle of the fourteenth century.

In 1517, Acre was conquered by the Ottoman Turks. Starting from 1721, the Turks gradually rebuilt the city anew: they erected a fortress, walls in Acre, built mosques, a Turkish bath, a palace, a bazaar.

Was there Atlantis? The answer is unequivocal - yes! This can be confirmed by any tourist who has visited the Crimea. Ancient city Acre, which once stood on the shores of the Kerch Strait, sank under water at the beginning of our era. The waves of the strait hid the streets, houses and the fortress wall. Why not this mythical island-state?

Where is the city of Acre in Crimea?

"In life" - so to speak - it was located at the southernmost point. The famous ancient geographer Strabo claimed that the policy is an ice-free port belonging to. The nearest to the location of the city is modern locality- Naberezhnoye village. Nearby are also found the village of Zavetnoye and. And all this is 30 km south of Kerch.

The history of the ancient port policy

According to ancient authors, Acre has existed since the 6th century. BC, and a century later it acquired its own fortifications from the land side in order to protect against nomadic raids. The port is described as a small settlement, but its importance for Greek navigation leaves no doubt. It stood on a cape, creating excellent conditions for ships. At the beginning of our era, approximately in the 4th century, there was a simultaneous sinking of part of the coast and changes in the water balance of the Black Sea. So Acre was under the water column, turning into the Black Sea Atlantis.

The second stage in the history of the ancient city is the return to the people. In search of Acre, toponymy played a cruel joke with archaeologists. The word "acra" is translated from Greek as "hill", "hill" (compare - "Acropolis"). Well, who will look for a hill under water? No map could help - they simply did not have a corresponding cape that had sunk centuries ago.

The sunken city was found by the will of fate. First, the researchers, examining the coast in this place, found a certain amount of material from Greek and Roman times. And in 1982, Lesha Kulikov, a schoolboy from, found a coin of the Bosporan kingdom on the shore. She became the starting point. In the 90s. of the last century, a graduate of Moscow University A.V. Kulikov led an expedition to explore Acre. At first, excavations were carried out on land, only then they moved under the sea surface.

Crimean Atlantis required a lot of money for its study, so from the very beginning Ukraine turned to Russia for help - the expedition was international. There were years when the work was not carried out at all - there was no funding. "Black archaeologists" at that time shamelessly robbed the monument - just give them free rein! But now normal, honest scientists have returned to the Crimea. The ancient city of Acre is among the priorities for archaeological research. There are plans for the subsequent transformation of the monument into a special underwater museum. There are also concerns - the observed changes in currents threaten the safety of the city.

Homeland of the Trojan hero

Some authors seriously consider Acre to be the birthplace of Achilles himself. There are mentions of such a name in ancient Greek literature. However, it was very common among the Greeks - for the simple reason that they preferred to build on the hills, so history is from the realm of legends. But it has been convincingly proven that Achilles was honored in the Crimea.

Crimean Atlantis: scuba diving excursion

Today, the priority direction of the Crimean underwater archeology is Acre. Crimean Atlantis is a real treasure for archaeologists, sea water has preserved such objects that they could never lie in the ground for millennia.
In particular, in the last season, the wooden foundations of the fortress towers and the comb were discovered here - the finds are completely unique, such an ancient tree is not found on the surface of the earth.

Acre can be visited by divers during the work of the expedition, usually the field season in Crimea coincides with the tourist season - from May to October. Experts do not mind, but categorically forbid them to touch anything on the monument. The stone fortress wall of the city, quite well preserved, is clearly visible, houses and streets are visible. In one of the buildings, a completely whole hearth was recently discovered - the unifying center of the family of the ancient Greek.

The underwater museum is in its infancy - it's too new for Crimea. Yes, and there is still a lot of manipulations, the settlement is large - according to scientists, at least 1000 people lived there permanently (according to the concepts of that time, a decent town). The interests of science are in the first position - even a temporary drainage of the territory of Acre is planned by building a dam. However, both the leadership of the peninsula and experts consider the archaeological center a promising project.

It is difficult to take underwater photos, but professional scientists are excellent at it. They regularly publish "portraits" of the ancient, ancient Acre. Last November, in Feodosia, which sheltered on its perimeter, a premiere took place about this amazing place.
