The famous Sochi ski resort. Ski resorts in Sochi. Where to live: Krasnaya Polyana

In a broad sense, the ski resort in Sochi is called Krasnaya Polyana, although there are no ski complexes in the village of Krasnaya Polyana itself, they start from the village of Esto-Sadok, next to which Gazprom and Gornaya Karusel are located, and end with Alpika and the most extreme resort "Rosa Khutor".

All in all, a lot to develop skiing has already been done for the Olympics, which is natural, but even now the complexes continue to develop rapidly and compete with each other, so every year you see something new: new cable cars are being built, new routes, hotels, all kinds of entertainment are opening.

Guns are now everywhere, because it is not always possible to count on mother nature. The official season lasts as long as possible from December to April and even May, but in fact we definitely ride in February and March.

Where to ski in Sochi

Every time we visit, we try to run through all the places to see and experience all the innovations. Actually, only 3 complexes, where there are mountain slopes in Sochi are now working.

Alpika-service, the very first Krasnopolyansk resort, is now under reconstruction. There is an expansion, construction, so while everything is closed, we are waiting for something grandiose. So far, they sell Gazprom ski passes and deliver them to the Gazprom slopes with their cable car. In general, everything seems to be moving towards a merger with Rosa.

We consider Gazprom (also called Laura after the name of the river and the ski and biathlon complex) so far the best, it could compete with many European resorts, both on modern routes, and on lifts, and on infrastructure, as always, it loses only in service . Site of the complex http://polyanaski.ru/

There is artificial lighting and snow on the slopes, so the snow is usually fine there, although the resort is located quite low.

The complex is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays and until 23:00 on Friday, weekends and holidays. There are 14 cable cars: gondola, chair and tow. We didn't see any lines here.

Now there are 15 tracks of varying difficulty, but more will be opened. There are beautiful, gentle slopes for beginners, there are excellent "black" ones, but they are open only with a confident snow cover.

It is very good to study on the "green" Gazprom tracks, all our beginner friends and especially the children got up on skis there. In general, everything here is focused on family holiday: wide pistes, non-ski activities such as snow tubing, go-karting, large Entertainment Center"Galaktika" (cinema, skating rink, mini-water park, club, etc.). Prices, I note, are not low, especially for restaurants, etc.

"Mountain carousel"

The most beautiful places here, although the resort itself is not as popular and fashionable, and the infrastructure is not as rich as in Rose and Gazprom. But it is a more peaceful, democratic place. But, most likely, everything will change soon, development is proceeding at a rapid pace, because the "Mountain Carousel" is part of the grandiose Gorki-gorod project: modern hotels, shopping centers, water park, etc.

Recently, evening skating was done in Karusel, and before the tracks were open only until 17:00, there are also guns. There are not many trails yet, only 25 km from the "green" ones (the training ones are very good) to the "black ones". A very popular freeride complex, i.e. off-piste skiing, which, by the way, is prohibited. A total of 13 lifts, gondola and chairlifts.

The atmosphere here so far, I repeat, is quite democratic, you can easily find an inexpensive and tasty snack, for example, what else to look for at Gazprom and Rosa.

"Rosa Khutor"

Most trendy resort, where you can go skiing, mostly youth, quite modern and developing. True, here we also encountered rude service, but it is clear that the level is growing. "Rose", in fact, has already gone beyond the ski resort, it exists on its own, without geographic reference to any locality, and already, as it were, has become such a point, because there is absolutely all the infrastructure here, including children's and family entertainment, and you can easily spend up to a week there without leaving at all.

There are cannons, so everything is in order with the snow, there was no lighting, but they already did evening skiing. 18 lifts of all types: gondola, chairlifts, ski lifts, conveyor lifts, there are small queues on them.

The skiing area here is huge, about 30 runs from green to red and black, but some are closed. Here is the most spectacular Olympia ski lift in Polyana, passing over the abyss, and also the highest skiing point - 2320 m.

View from Olympia

Rosa infrastructure: shops, fashion boutiques, cafes, restaurants of any cuisine, hairdressers, skating rink, karaoke. Accommodation: from apartments to luxurious Radisson. Everything is expensive.

In summer, the trails are used for mountain biking, hiking and horseback riding.

How to get there

Before the most convenient way there was a "Swallow", but now their routes have been greatly curtailed, now nothing goes from the airport at all, you have to look for options.

If we go to Rosa or Gazprom, we get off at the Rosa Khutor station, i.e. final, and if in the "Karusel" - you can still get off at Esto-Sadok and get to the complex on Karuselevsky free bus.

Train timetable

As an option - a taxi, from the Address will cost 1200-1500 rubles, or buses (from the center of Sochi, Adler and the airport).

Accommodation

In general, an expensive resort is probably the most expensive in Russia, and ski resorts are traditionally even more expensive than beach resorts. Although there are not only 5-star hotels here, there are enough 2-3 * accommodations, and apartments, and even the private sector, but the prices still, let's say, do not always correspond to the quality of service.

Most cheap option accommodation - the Adler private sector, but you will have to regularly travel to the mountains, so this is only suitable for the option with a car.

Sochi ski resorts are located in Krasnaya Polyana, on the slopes of the Caucasus. All of them are located near the sea, as well as from the international airport. There is a pleasant mountain-sea climate and an easy road to the slopes, so the resorts are very convenient for tourists. Many meet New Year on one of ski resorts Sochi.

The competitions of the 2014 Olympics were held in Krasnaya Polyana. As a result, there are new high-quality tracks and lifts, developed infrastructure, a lot of daily housing and hotels, and a large range of related entertainment.

Below you see a map of ski resorts that is relevant for the season 2019 and 2020.

When does the ski season start in Sochi?

Since the climate here is mild, the skiing season opens in December and lasts until mid-April (sometimes until May). It is always warm in Krasnaya Polyana: around 0...+5 degrees. But the resort has a lot of snow. The height of the snow cover is kept at the level of 2-4 meters, and sometimes reaches 8.

Now we will tell you what ski resorts are in Sochi.

Rosa Khutor

The most popular in Krasnaya Polyana. Suitable for families with children, and experienced skiers, and freeriders.

Krasnaya Polyana (former Gorki Gorod)

It can hardly be called the largest ski resort in Russia, but in Krasnaya Polyana it is the largest: it simultaneously accepts up to 10 thousand vacationers. This ski resort was previously known as Gorki Gorod and Gornaya Karusel, and since 2019 it has been called Krasnaya Polyana.

Tracks. There are slopes of different difficulty levels, most of them are quite short. There are 32 tracks in total, and their total length is 30 kilometers.

In general, the resort is suitable for beginner skiers and advanced skiers who love winding and steep slopes. For advanced riders, there are so-called circuses - sections between the peaks.

Lifts. On the slopes, 13 cable cars (gondola, chairlift, rope tow) have been created.

How much does a ski pass cost. In the high season it will cost 2100 rubles per day.

Leisure. Everything is standard, but exciting: spas, fitness centers, cinema, water park, bowling, restaurants and cafes.

Where to stay. Choose accommodation in Krasnaya Polyana.

Gazprom Laura

At first it was a ski resort, and for the Olympics it was supplemented with the Laura ski and biathlon complex.

Tracks. There are 23 descents with a total length of approximately 20 kilometers. Compared to Rosa Khutor, everything is more compact here. The slopes are mostly easy and suitable for beginners. If you like slow skiing, this is the place for you. However, 3 tracks have been created for experienced skiers - according to reviews, they are very impressive.

Lifts. Skiing offers 13 cable cars, and one of them stretches for 5 kilometers and is one of the longest in the world.

Ski pass. Prices for lifts in the high skiing season are 2500 rubles per day.

Other ways to relax. After conquering the mountains, you can relax in the pool or spa. The resort has a shopping and entertainment center "Galaktika", where there are not only shops, but also a water park, a bowling center, a skating rink, a billiards club, a cinema and restaurants. If you want to have an active rest, visit the climbing wall, ride horses or quad bikes.

Where to stay. Accommodation in Adler can be booked at any time.

Gazprom Alpika

This is one of the first ski resorts in Sochi. It was subjected to reconstruction, which began in 2010. Recently, this is again one of the places where people ski in Sochi.

Tracks. This is a resort for professional skiers and those who have mastered freeride well. It is not suitable for beginners, because. there are 5 difficult tracks with a total length of 7.5 kilometers.

Lifts. There are 5 ropeways.

Ski pass. It will cost 2500 rubles per day.

Additional rest. You can arrange a helicopter flight, go snowmobiling, and also try the waters from mineral springs. Of course, cafes and restaurants are also available here.

Where to stay. You can choose accommodation in Esto-Sadok - it's very close.

Single ski pass

From the 2019-2020 season, all four ski resorts in Sochi will have a single ski pass. With it, you can use any route of any resort.

There are only a few days left before the start of winter and it's time to think about which ski resort to choose for your holiday this year. To do this, it is not necessary to obtain a visa and fly abroad: there is good skating in Russia. We have selected 11 great resorts, which are no worse than the Alps in quality and more pleasant in price.

Caucasus

Arkhyz

Winner in the nomination "The Best Young Ski Resort in Russia" of the "Leaders of the Sports Industry" award in 2016. Skiers and snowboarders love Arkhyz: in more than three years, more than 500 thousand people have visited here, and the glory of the “Russian Alps” has been entrenched in the resort.

And this love is understandable: here you will find stunning landscapes, an excellent climate for skiing and a snowy sunny winter. "Arkhyz" is located at an altitude of 1400 to 3300 meters above sea level, the most high points- mountains Pshish and Sofia. On the territory you will find beautiful untouched nature, beautiful glaciers and mountain lakes.

There are 8 slopes in the resort so far, difficulty levels from green to black. It is worth noting that the resort is constantly developing and growing, so if you are not ready to go to the Russian Alps this year, still add Arkhyz to your plans for the future.

The downside of Arkhyz is that there are still few hotels in the resort, and rooms are sold out very quickly. If the prices for the remaining rooms scare you, you can always rent a room from local residents or stay in the village of Arkhyz (minibuses run from it to the resort).

"Dombai"

Dombay is one of the most popular ski centers in the Caucasus. The resort is located in a very beautiful place: in a nature reserve near the confluence of several rivers. The beauty here is still wild, the development of the resort has been taken up quite recently, but at a good pace: in recent years, comfortable hotels have appeared on Dombai, a new line of lifts has opened, the resort owners have purchased modern equipment and hired a team of good instructors. So a few more years - and no Alps will be needed. In addition, the prices for skiing here are pleasing.

Dombay will appeal to both beginners and pros. The main slope is Moussa-Achitara, you can go down from it on a dozen different tracks with a total length of 20 km. The ski area is located at an altitude of 1630 to 3012 meters. A lot of gentle slopes for those who are not too sure of themselves yet, side by side with steep red runs. For experienced professionals, there are six routes on the "wild tracks", where you and your instructor will be delivered by helicopter, and after the descent they will be picked up. Pleasure is not cheap, but worth it.

Elbrus

This is one of the largest and most popular ski resorts in Russia. At the same time, there are not only high-quality tracks, but also very reasonable prices, especially compared to Europe. In the Elbrus region people go to get up on skis and boards or hone their skills - there is excellent skiing for everyone. The ski complex includes two slopes - Elbrus and Cheget.

There are officially 11 tracks on Elbrus with a total length of 11 kilometers, but in reality it is one large mountain slope, which is used by skiers and snowboarders of all skill levels. Most of the trails are blue: wide and gentle, with short red sections. If you are not yet too confident in your abilities, go to the Azau glade, where an excellent green track has been prepared.

Cheget is a place for extreme sportsmen and professionals. There are 15 official slopes here, but again it's more like one slope. The long and steep track is considered one of the most difficult in the world, the descents run through Pine forest so it's better for beginners not to meddle here. But opportunities for freeride and backcountry - the sea. On the northern slope there are Cheget hillocks - natural formations, skiing on which helps to develop balance and improve control over skis. Snowboarders are recommended to ride on the southern slope of Cheget, where the slopes are wider, but no less steep.

BigWOOD ("Big Woodyavr")

A modern ski resort in Khibiny was built relatively recently. BigWOOD is located 9 km from, on the southern slope of Mount Aikuaivenchorr (Sleeping Beauty). The level of service and quality of services here are at their best, prices are not higher than in other good Russian resorts.

"Big Woodyavr" is the highest mountain complex in the North-West of Russia. There are 8 ski routes of varying difficulty, and 5 of them are suitable for beginners. The quality of the tracks is at the European level, several have FIS certificates. In total, skiers and snowboarders can expect more than 45 kilometers of skiing, 18 of which have artificial lighting - an important detail, given that the daylight hours in the north are short.

The total elevation difference is 550 meters. For beginners, there is a training slope with a belt lift, for professionals there are wide fan-carve tracks with a slope of up to 40%, a snow park and three virgin couloirs. In general, no one will be bored.

"Sheregesh"

Sheregesh is one of the most equipped resorts in Western Siberia. The trails here are considered the best in the region. The resort is located in the south of the Kemerovo region, in the Mountain Shoria massif. This amazing place is the size of a small European country, almost the entire territory of which is covered with impenetrable taiga. Snow is guaranteed here in the season, skiing is interesting, there are trails for both beginners and professionals - virgin lands in the forest await them.

Two tracks in Sheregesh are FIS certified, they host one of the stages of the Russian Alpine Skiing Championship. In total, the resort has six ski areas, in which there are 15 pistes with a total length of about 36 kilometers. The elevation changes here are from 640 meters on gentle long slopes to 1270 meters on the slopes for extreme sportsmen.

Sheregesh stands out among the ski resorts with an unusually long season - the climate allows skiing here from November to May. Moreover, thanks to the unique combination of humidity and temperature, beautiful snow falls already in November, forming a soft “powder” that freeriders love so much.

The maximum height difference is 310 meters, the total length of the tracks is more than 20 kilometers. Trails of different difficulty levels do not intersect, so skiing is quite safe. Most of the trails at the top converge to one point, so you can change the route at any time before starting the descent. Beginners will not be afraid, for them there are quite a lot of long and gentle sections and there is a convenient training track.

The season here lasts from November to May, and there is snow in any weather: eight of the thirteen slopes are equipped with snow cannons. The slopes are mostly gentle and not too difficult: there are no black slopes, 4 red ones, the rest are suitable for those who ride not so long ago. There are fewer trails here than in Abzakovo - only 4, two red, blue and green. The length of the tracks is 2.5 kilometers, the elevation difference is 450 meters. The tracks go along the slopes of Mount Ajigarak, today there are ten of them, they are FIS certified. The tracks are mostly blue with black and red sections. For snowboarders, there is a separate area with rails and training jumps.

Since the 1980s, a children's and youth school of the Olympic reserve has been operating at the resort, and competitions and starts are held on the slopes all winter.

The resort is actively developing: modern hotels are being built, and a couple of years ago new lifts were launched that opened access to northern slope, where four more tracks are open. This season also launched a lift to the top of the mountain, where a new large freeride area is open.

This is the future, but the present is not bad either: today in the "Mountain Air" there are 14 tracks of different difficulty levels: five black, seven red and two green. Fact #4: The builders used catapults to build the cable car.

To deliver building materials to hard-to-reach places, special catapults were designed that threw stones and bags of rubble to the construction site so as not to spoil the forest.

Fact #5: There is a Hatiko on one of the Rosa Khutor tracks.

The poor dog has been waiting for his owner for 5 years, who went skiing in the fog and disappeared. The dog can be found at the rescue station near the lift - it is fed by local workers.

In addition, due to the crisis, service has fallen in many cheap and middle-class hotels. Many hotels were built, but after the Olympics, the service dropped somewhat. Maybe now the situation will improve - after all, the crisis has forced the majority of ski lovers to abandon not only Switzerland and Austria, but even Bulgaria. So Sochi Krasnaya Polyana has great prospects in this regard.

On New Year's Eve, as a rule, prices for rooms and cottages increase by about 20%. Despite the fact that the resort has a huge number of restaurants and cafes, it is best to choose tours with all-inclusive meals. At the same time, many hotels know that tourists wake up and ride in different time, so the buffet is available almost around the clock.

Gazprom (Laura)

The ski resort in Sochi Gazprom or, as it is also called, Laura, is one of the best. Those who have been to European resorts will not be very disappointed in it. The only unpleasant thing is not always decent service and occasionally slipping rudeness. Yes, and your face at the entrance will be photographed in case you steal the Fisher skis you rented. But in general, in terms of comfort, everything is fine.

The main base in Gazprom is located near the lower lift. cottages, restaurants, Beautiful places– all this is guaranteed. The infrastructure is good except for some drag lifts, near which queues accumulate. Plus, the resort is low, so the organizers have to support the snow cover with cannons in some places. So it doesn’t happen that the snow has melted in Laura and it’s impossible to ride. Moreover, for athletes and professionals, artificial snow is better. Therefore, snow cannons in Gazprom are really a big plus for this resort.

In total, Gazprom has 16 tracks of varying difficulty. For those who have not skied in Sochi 2020 before, it will be very comfortable and convenient - there are gentle slopes for training. As for the price of ski rental, for a set of Volki or Fisher you will have to pay from 500 to 1000 rubles. In general, not bad, for a few days you can have a wonderful rest. You can also rent a snowboard.

"Rosa Khutor"

The ski resort in Sochi "Rosa Khutor" is a former resort for the rogue. The prices here are the most affordable, especially in terms of accommodation. But rental, lifts are even more expensive than in Europe. The lift for 1 day will cost 2650 rubles. Conditions - after the Olympics (and there were competitions here as well) became quite normal. A picturesque, but somewhat dull view of the Mzymta River, all kinds of Russian taverns, borscht, good cable car with spacious cabins. By the way, there are expensive hotels in Rosa Khutor, but one must understand that mostly young people and locals prevail in the resort.

The length of trails at Rosa Khutor is greater than at Gazprom-Laura. There are as many as 77 km of them, there are 16 lifts. Snow cannons work - there is where to ride. Some of the lifts are still under construction, and for several years already. Of the minuses - on some routes there are stones and ice blocks. There are also queues for lifts. In addition, the reviews of tourists about Rosa Khutor indicate that the resort is very fond of cheating with prices. So everything is typical in Russian. But then again, whoever came to ride will get it. The only thing you need to be careful, because not all dangerous routes are marked. Look at the map, memorize, do not rush.

In general, Rosa Khutor is annoying, especially for those who have previously visited Europe. But there is nowhere to go. If you accept and just come to ride, you can even have fun. By the way, those who want to buy mountain skis for children should know that personal equipment is sometimes stolen in Rosa Khutor.

"Mountain carousel"

The ski resort in Sochi "Mountain Carousel" is located in the town of Estosadok. He became famous for the fact that Medvedev rode here. If you manage to book a hotel in the "Mountain Carousel" at around 960 meters, he will enjoy only one picturesque view. Of all the skiing in Sochi 2020, Karusel is the most beautiful.

The length of the trails here is 27 kilometers. The main track is professional, there are even ski jumps, but there are also several tracks for beginners. It is better not to go here with children, although there are good instructors for them. It’s just that the tracks for children’s skiing, according to many, are dangerous. Yes, and with a car there is a tension - there are almost no parking lots. Otherwise, the "Mountain Carousel" is a very worthy object. Hotels - average in price, from 3000 rubles with kopecks per room. Alpine skis for hire from well-known companies - Salomon, Rossignol, Berton, elite Volki and Fisher. The cost is about 1000 rubles. Ski pass will cost from 700 rubles and more.

Service at the Gornaya Karusel is not too different from Gazprom and Rosa Khutor, but, probably due to the smaller number of people, it is more calm and dignified. Plus, the infrastructure is not so developed - there are much fewer restaurants, saunas and bars.

Although skiing in Sochi 2020 are inferior to the European level, they are developing every year. Who does not go to Sochi, he goes to Dombai. The organizers of ski resorts in Sochi are working to improve the service, which has grown significantly in 2019.
