From the history of the Keukenhof park
It is known that in the 15th century there were forests in this area and sand dunes. The lands belonged to the Countess of Gennegau Jacob of Bavaria (Jacoba van Beieren (1401-1436)). The surrounding forest served as a source of game, mushrooms, berries and medicinal herbs, while the area near the castle was used to grow fruits, herbs and herbs for the kitchen.
