Foreign passport expiration date. Validity of a passport for travel abroad. What to do if the validity period is coming to an end, and there are only a few months left

Since March 2010, Russian citizens, in addition to the old-style passport, have the opportunity to apply for a new generation passport, i.е. biometric valid for 10 years. The choice, of course, is a good thing, but how to make it right?

Let's look at all the fundamental differences between these two documents that give the same rights.

Today, an identity document is indispensable for traveling abroad. Photo identification is also required as proof of identification when entering into contracts or when collecting personally despatched consignments. Since the passport can be used in many ways in relation to possible applications and is valid throughout the world, it is obvious that such a document would document as a normal document. Failure to take the passport abroad is a criminal offense under Austrian law.

  1. Registration procedure
The list of documents for an old-style passport and a biometric one is the same. The exception is questionnaires (applications) for the issuance of a passport and their completion. The application form for a new generation passport is filled ONLY in capital letters, manual filling is not allowed (printed version only). According to the list of questions, the questionnaires are equivalent. I note that on biometric passport you, as well as the old sample, will require photographs. The registration itself at the FMS is almost the same, however, you will be photographed for biometrics right in the office of the inspector. In some FMS there is a queue for taking pictures, so. to apply for a biometric passport you will have to come twice.

You can download the questionnaire (application) for an old-style passport here.

Passport application and exhibition for children and adults

This is obligatory even in countries with Schengen agreements, although, as a rule, a passport is not required to be presented. The application is made in Austria by municipalities, magistrates and district managers. Regardless of where the passport is applied in Austria, they are all made in the Austrian state printing house in Vienna. In principle, when submitting applications, there must be an appearance.

A small child or child must appear in person. The accompanying adult must also submit documentation to ensure his or her authority to represent. The chip stores the passport photos and fingerprints provided at the time of application, so that identification can be done without a doubt.

  2. Validity periods
The old-style international passport will still be valid for 5 years. There are NO restrictions on visited countries and on obtaining visas. The myths that it is easier to put a visa in a biometric passport are groundless!
The new generation passport has more pages (46 versus 36 in the old sample) and is valid for 10 years (with the exception of biometric passports received before March 2010! Their validity is 5 years.)
  3. State duty
An important factor is the cost of obtaining a passport. The state duty for a biometric passport is 2,500 rubles, for children under 14 years of age 1,200 rubles, for an old-style passport - 1,000 rubles. and 300 rubles. respectively.
  4. Departure of the child abroad
From the moment of birth, a child can issue his own passport. Which sample to choose? - the decision is yours.
For my part, I want to add that the issuance of a passport little child inappropriate, because children at this age change very quickly and perhaps in a year (depending on the age of the child by this moment) You simply will not be released at the border. There will be a need to re-register the document.
Another important difference is that the presence of a child is not required for an old-style passport (a legal representative comes to apply with documents for a child), for biometrics it is necessary to come with a child for a photo (sometimes this is a whole problem - to stand in line and persuade a child to be photographed in someone else's office Uncles are not for everyone.)
Now, regarding the entry - since February 2011, a decree has come into force, according to which children entered in the passport only confirm kinship with their parents (on the principle general passport) and do not give the child the right to travel abroad. I can’t clarify to what extent this decision is being implemented and whether children are released on the basis of the parent’s passport, I can only say that children are NOT registered in the FMS bodies! There is also information that children registered before 2008 can travel on the same document with their parents, but the passport does not contain data on the date of entry .... therefore, it is not clear who will be released and who is not. In my opinion, it is easier to issue a separate passport for a child and travel with a calm heart.

Additional Information.

People traveling abroad who apply for a passport in Russia often try to find out the answers to several questions. For example, they want to know which passport is better, and also what old passport different from new. Many believe that a biometric passport is better than a regular one, as it is made for a period of 10 years and contains a digital photograph. The biometric document has a plastic page with a chip that contains the owner's data. Many people want to know which is easier to issue a passport - a new passport or an old one?

The normal duration from application, creation to delivery is 5 to 7 working days. If, for example, a special urgency prevails due to an upcoming trip, an express pass can be obtained within 3 working days. If this reduced time period is not an option, there is a one-day express pass that will be sent by courier on the next business day. Usually passports are delivered by return letter. Since One Day Express is a personal service for you, it is very important that you are within the delivery times that call you at home.

Issuing a new passport is a little more expensive, and the holder's profile differs from the questionnaire in the old-style passport (however, there is nothing complicated in filling it out). The validity of the new passport is 5 years longer than usual, and there are more pages. When applying for a new passport, you do not need to be photographed in advance - you will be photographed on the spot. But even with an old passport, you can travel anywhere in the world without any problems. So it's up to you to decide which passport to issue. It depends on how much money you are willing to spend to get the old and new passport and for how long do you need this document.

No further personal contact with the Authority is made on the basis of the service through the post office or courier service. Thus, old passport, if available, is already amortized at the time of application or is limited to only a few days. Unlike the green and beige passports of earlier times, today's burgundy passport can no longer be extended. However, a new passport can be applied before the expiration date. An adult passport is valid for 10 years.

Even a baby needs its own passport. However, this first passport is free. It also only applies for two years. The regular child pass is valid for 5 years. The young person is classified as a child in the passport. There are no other costs or fees, as the amounts shown are the so-called flat-rate prices, which include all stages of the application, preparation and delivery, including costs.

Not all citizens are aware of the exact validity period of a passport for traveling abroad. Focusing only on the date indicated in the document itself, you can find yourself in a difficult situation during border control, when your minor child will be refused to go abroad on the basis that his appearance does not match the photo in the passport. Accordingly, you will also not be able to fly on the flight for which you have purchased tickets.

Emergency Pass - Pass for Short Decision Makers

For an absolute emergency, you can get a so-called emergency passport. However, the emergency passport is only available at Vienna Airport, at the Feuerwatch-Rathaus in Vienna, and at some area management teams that have set up a reserve service.

To issue an emergency passport, you must present a document with an identification number or at least one identity document, such as a spouse. Duotone, identical and biometric images of passports must also be submitted. The real reason must also be proven. Among other things, this confirmation can be confirmed by a confirmation of a hotel reservation abroad or a flight booking.

How much is valid

Similar problems, but of a slightly different nature, may also be faced by those citizens who carelessly do not pay attention to the peculiarities of foreign legislation before traveling abroad. This concerns, first of all, the time interval between the formal expiration of the travel document and the date of entry into another country.

What to do if your passport is lost or stolen

The emergency passport is valid for one year. It is advisable to inform the issuing authority of the specific needs of the target country as, for example, an additional visa may be required. If internal passport lost during the theft, this is reported to the local police station. You will receive a new passport upon presentation of proof of the theft notice and all other required documents for a new exhibition. If you lose your passport in the country, it is enough to report that the old passport is lost.

If less than three months are left before the expiration of your passport, it is better not to tempt fate and postpone the trip until a new passport is issued. Otherwise, foreign border guards will refuse to let you out of the country, citing the fact that your passport is expired. As a consequence, you will have to look for a Russian embassy or consulate to issue a certificate allowing you to return to your homeland without a passport.

Passport lost abroad

No need for a loss indicator. In case of loss or theft abroad, the procedure remains the same. The police must report the loss or theft. By confirming this announcement, you will receive an emergency passport from the Austrian resident authority, consulate or embassy.

How long before the expiration date can I travel abroad with a real passport?

If you have returned to Austria, it is absolutely necessary to give another theft in case of theft by the Austrian police. If the passport has been lost, the same provisions apply as in case of loss in Germany. If your ID card has expired or is about to expire, you must renew it. How high the cost is, how long it takes and how it works in general, we explain to you in this praxistips.

When should a child's passport be changed and is it necessary to change a passport at the age of 14? Not everyone knows the answers to these questions. Formally, the validity of an exit document is limited only by its type. The age of the child does not matter, especially since there are no special "children's" passports. In practice, it all depends on whether the appearance of the child allows you to identify him as the owner of a passport.

Extend Your ID Card - You Should Pay Attention

By law, you must be able to present a valid German ID. If your ID is thus no longer valid or will soon become invalid, you must request a new ID immediately.

New Staff ID: Duration and Cost

To apply for a German identity card, you need German citizenship and must be at least 16 years of age. Under the age of 16, a legal representative must apply for an identity card. In addition, you will need to appear in person with the following documents at the competent authority: current biometric photograph and your old ID. You can, for example, check this with online merchants, but you will need the device that you paid for. Costs: Renewal or these costs must be paid locally to the responsible local government. Duration: The issuance of a new ID can take three to six weeks. Therefore, you should apply for a new one four weeks before your passport expires. If you need an ID card right away, you can apply for a temporary ID card for a fee of €10. Also note that especially in major cities, such as Berlin, can be a great use of available dates. Therefore, you must regularly wait in Berlin for up to 3 months before you receive an appointment. You can apply for a new ID at your local authority or local authority. In recent years, many Brazilians who needed to be issued a passport have encountered some difficulties due to the bureaucracy involved in the process.

If the border control officer decides that the child does not look like his passport photo, then it is quite possible that he will be refused to cross the border. Accordingly, this cancels a trip abroad for at least one of the parents.

When to change a child's passport if it has changed? To avoid problems at the border, it is better not to delay the procedure for reissuing an exit document to the point where the border guards pay attention to the problem in identifying a minor. For school-age children, it is better to change the passport every 3-4 years. If you have issued a passport for a preschool child or, moreover, a baby, then you may need to replace the document after two years.

In the midst of all this, what to do? The truth is that it is simply impossible to travel to dozens of destinations without being aware of this document. So if you are planning to visit relatives, want to take advantage of holidays abroad, have or visit certain ones, you need to know the alternatives to issuing a passport if the traditional route does not work.
