Does the Czech Republic consider the holiday of March 8 as an atavism of the socialist past, or is it still celebrated? Parting with communism, the authorities officially abolished it, and gave the Czechs an alternative - Mother's Day (Den matek), which falls on the second Sunday in May. But this women's day does not replace in the minds of many the other one, which after the "velvet" revolution had to be safely forgotten.

Surprisingly, right now is International Women's Day ( Mezinarodni den zen) becomes popular again. These are not awards for leading women with red carnations, but just a good reason to once again say warm words to your beloved ladies. Mother's Day is strictly tied to the presence of children, and March 8 is a universal holiday, you can congratulate the beautiful half without risking getting into a mess. And this is becoming more and more active. What are the owners of flower shops glad about - the revenue on the eve of March 8 exceeds the "St. Valentine's" one!

An interesting fact is that in 2011 International Women's Day was celebrated around the world for the hundredth time. And in the Czech Republic, on this occasion, politicians tried to discuss gender equality in the highest authorities, where the overwhelming majority are men. The discussion was picked up by public organizations, which called for thinking about the fact that there are clearly not enough women in modern Czech politics. So the original component returns to this day - the struggle for the rights of women.

But the main thing is that many Czech women will be happy with congratulations, flowers and warm words, regardless of the social or political background of this day. Spring comes to the Czech Republic, with the spring of all the lovely ladies!

On March 8, my friend and I decided to give ourselves a "favorite" gift - to go to the Czech Republic. We turned to the Travel Agency "Around the World" and they picked up an excellent excursion program for us - "Prague Maximum" and on March 6 we flew to Prague. For 8 days we had to see all the sights of Prague, visit Karlovy Vary and Dresden.

The first thing we noticed was the kind, reliable Czechs, with whom fate brought us together throughout the trip. Because we don’t (to put it mildly) speak languages very well, and we had to get to the place of departure of all excursions from different places (by metro, tram, but this is one of the pluses of the trip - you can see Prague and its environs while you get to the appointed place), everyone willingly suggested how to get there, how to get there, whoever can: with gestures, half-Russian, half-English - they never got lost, they got a lot of positive emotions.

Secondly, of course, Czech cuisine - sausages, pork knee, ribs, sweets and real Czech beer, especially dark! We had a voucher with one breakfast, it was not difficult to eat at lunch and in the evening. Almost every hundred meters there are cafes, restaurants, a menu in Russian, if there is none, they will kindly tell you what you can try. One evening we had dinner at the Black Eagle cafe, the waiter politely served us, and finally brought us the book Night Watch, all written with the wishes and thanks of Russian tourists and a newspaper clipping. To our dumb question, he answered that Sergey Lukyanenko dined in this cafe, he was so delighted with the cuisine and service that he left a mention of this cafe in his book. We also left our autographs on the page of the book, where the author recalls this place.

And most importantly, this fabulous Prague. Architecture of the 15th-18th century, everything is carefully preserved, magnificent houses, grandiose temples, churches, ancient castles- spirit medieval Europe- it's all a must see! Every day after the excursions, we took a leisurely walk around Prague: along the Charles Bridge, immersed in the rays of sunset, along cobbled narrow streets of the Lesser Country, looking at the cathedrals, towers, squares, people, the astronomical clock in the town hall on the Old Town Square with the moving figures of the apostles, reminiscent of the frailty of life. Contours of courtyards and temples Prague Castle, located on the Castle Hill, resemble giant ship, one of the tourists exclaimed “I have a culture shock from what I saw!” On the oldest in Europe Charles Bridge - a multi-style architectural structure- the sculptures of thirty saints attract attention. Anyone who touches with his hand the statue of St. John of Nepomuk, a priest thrown into the Vltava from a bridge because he refused to reveal to the king the secret of the queen's confession, can safely make any wish. According to belief, it will surely come true.Of course, we did not pass by this custom. By the way, an elderly Czech unobtrusively approached us on the bridge and began to tell interesting stories about Prague, Charles Bridge, the legends associated with it, in broken Russian, but so exciting and informative!

Another unforgettable trip to Dresden - the capital of Saxony. Dresden is only 153 km from Prague, and this proximity of the cities to each other, as well as the interesting architecture of Dresden and unique museums located in it, and "seduce" this trip. It is much more expensive to travel to Germany from Russia on your own than to the Czech Republic, and visiting Dresden in one trip with luxurious, but more economical in terms of expenses, Prague is an excellent compromise option.

The trip was a success - on the trip we visited two countries, did a shopping tour in Dresden, tasted various goodies, learned a lot of new things. Recommended for those who love active, educational rest!
