Bulgarian shops and prices.

The question immediately follows from the previous chapter - what kind of store is this for the Bulgarians? I explain. Sunny Beach is a resort, so everything here is sold for tourists and at resort prices. Although, it should be noted that even these overestimated resort prices in places much lower than in the same our usual stores. Bulgarian stores - i.e. places where you will actively spend your money are supermarkets, souvenir shops and tents with clothes, toys, beach accessories.
In the small supermarket nearest to us (there are a lot of them here), we bought water, juices, sandwiches, yogurts. But one day, quite by accident, when we were returning from a Bulgarian village, one drunk compatriot stuck in a hollow to a charismatic Bulgarian guide with the question: “Where ... hic ... do you buy ... hic ... clothes and food ... do you have …hic…big store?”. And the Bulgarian, fighting off her, split. He said that he would show, because right now we will be passing a great big shopping mall, in which his wife buys everything from panties to sausages, and it is called "Mladost". A sign gleamed in the darkness. We remembered. And the next day they began to search. It turned out not so far from us. Behind the main highway. Landmarks on the road: hotel "Chrysanthemum" or blue-orange hotel "Amaris". Near the last one at the T-shaped intersection, you need to turn, walk 200m, turn right, there will be this store, It is not very big, but, nevertheless, a 2-storey shopping center, on the first floor there are groceries, on the second floor there are clothes, cosmetics, household goods , toys, shoes, etc.
The Bulgarian product department is impressive. How? Ecology and quality and prices.
The Bulgarians have not yet had time (everything is ahead of them) to spoil sausage, cheese, dairy products, sweets, etc. - that is, fill them with fillers, tint with dyes and replace natural ingredients with substitutes - as we have in Russia. Therefore, to find, for example, a sausage in which (as Basilashvili joked about ice cream in the "Station for Two" in the scene of ordering dinner in a restaurant) there would be only sausage (that is, directly the meat itself, and not toilet paper, starch, modifiers etc.) is unrealistic. And in Bulgaria, please - delicious raw smoked, smoked sausages. And the choice is worthy, not 150 species like ours and there is nothing to choose from, but only a dozen varieties, but each one is excellent. In the dairy department there is an incomparable variety of sour milk (about it in detail in the chapter on the harmful stick) and ayran. Delicious bottled spring water, wheat water - Bosa (the taste is more than specific, brr, but healthy ...), children's juices, and also juices with pulp in classic glass bottles. It is better not to enter the jam and jam department for the faint of heart - all kinds of jams from berries and fruits, and even rose petals and figs. In the canning and canning department there are amazing-looking (and definitely tasting) lecho, peppers, eggplant caviar. In the confectionery department there are delicious boxes of Turkish delight, Turkish delight sausages, halva and nougat…. Chocolates "Chernomorets" in boxes, made at the Plovdiv confectionery factory, are considered very tasty. Well, the sea of ​​​​everything else.

Prices… I don’t even know how to say it – very cheap. We bought a bag of groceries for lunch, i.e. sour milk, yogurt, sausage, buns, sweets, fruits, juices, water - all for 6-8 leva (~ 3-4 euros). After "Mladost" it was very difficult to make purchases in other places, it always came out at least 2-3 times more expensive. For example, a jar of rose petal jam here cost a lion with stotinki, i.e. ruble with kopecks, and in the tourist area is already 5 leva. Before leaving, we scored the maximum - for 90 leva (~45 euros) ... - the most expensive bottles of raki, a bottle of wine, three sticks of salami (lukanka, cudweed, pasturma), a bunch of boxes with sweets and Turkish delight, rose jam, tea, spices and eggplant caviar….

On the second floor of "Mladost" there is a department store, such a combined hodgepodge, a little bit of everything. Some clothes, some swimsuits and underwear, some household goods, some dishes, some cosmetics, some shoes. We always froze for a long time in front of the stand with cosmetics. Hmm, this cream was seen for 5, here 1; this mask was seen for 4, here 1, and so - that's it. In general, we also bought excellent face creams and masks here. And, again, cheap for the Bulgarians - this does not mean that it is of poor quality. Therefore, buying a hand cream, for example, for 50 stotinki, you buy an excellent product, perfectly absorbed and smelling. And the eye cream in an iron tube - for the same 50 stotinki ... - perfectly softens the skin. I understand that I am writing strange things :), and you obviously do not believe me :). Come and check for yourself. :) By the way, when you see Trojan ceramics (a cup) here for 40 stotinki, and half an hour ago in the city it costs 5 levs - that's when you start counting levs.

The only thing, to our great regret, the choice of pink cosmetics even in this large store is very small - only one brand of average quality, so it does not compete with that pink abundance in the shops of Nessebar and resort area. We bought grape and olive lines.

If you are far from Mladost, then there is a spare and also a great option - the Bally supermarket. Go along the central alley towards the hotel "Kuban" to the main highway (i.e. from the sea), cross it, to the right, behind the gray building of some hotel (it seems to be the "Brizor" apartment) this store is hiding. There is almost the same choice of products as in Mladost, and the prices are literally a drop more expensive. But there is only food, fruits, sweets, pastries, alcohol and some cosmetics - there are no clothes and shoes.
We constantly bought chocolate Kinder-testicles for the child. In our country, this is an almost meaningless expense item, but in Bulgaria it is an item of permanent pleasure. In the testicles all the time come across different (!) And incredibly cute toys.

In Bulgaria, it should be noted, there is a complete order with souvenirs. And in general, many of these are not even souvenirs, but either very beautiful things that create comfort in the house, or pink cosmetics and perfumes of excellent quality.

The main thing is to understand the brands and manufacturers. There are lines, for example, that did not attract us at all either by smell or quality, but there are very good ones.

In Bulgaria, a magnificent soap with roses, the smell is wonderful. It seems such nonsense as soap, well, really, but they are so well made, and the amazing aroma - Lush quietly cries with envy. I also note pink lip balms and face masks. What effect do masks have? - "Remove from stress and screech" . This is exactly how the Bulgarian language is expressed, you can’t say it better . The mask, by the way, is produced only by the factory in Karlovo, no others have been met. You can also buy dried rose petals, pink bath salts, etc. and so on. I repeat, there are a lot of rose cosmetics in Bulgaria, but it's a bit difficult to choose.

About spirits, I already wrote in the chapter "Shipka - Kazanlak". I almost forgot about the most traditional cones in wooden cases with burning. They cost ~1-2 leva. Lace tablecloths. We saw them everywhere, at least in Sunny Beach not far from us in several places, and Nessebar is littered with them. Tablecloths and napkins are quietly knitted before your eyes by quiet Bulgarian grandmothers and women. The choice is huge. Prices from 100-80 leva (~50-40 euros) for a huge lace tablecloth, up to 10-5 leva (~5-2.5 euros) for small napkins. Can you imagine how beautiful such handmade things can make your home? Color - white and ivory.

National woolen Bulgarian tablecloths. You must have seen them somewhere in the picture with Bulgarian cuisine. Colors - bright red, green, white. Firmware - long strips of multi-colored threads or embroidery with Bulgarian multi-colored crosses. All tablecloths are available in various sizes. You can pick up the same napkins for them, also different in size. It should be noted that these tablecloths carry some kind of unprecedented positive charge, and even a small napkin on the table, or, for example, on the bedside table somehow brings the Bulgarian sun into the house very strongly. Also from this series - simple-looking things - boxes, spoons, napkin holders, wall plates, clocks, with burnt roses, dancing couples, etc., can create incredible comfort around them. There in Bulgaria you twist, for example, a spoon or a box, and you think, well, where will I put it, and how it will look - and already at home, you put it and just walk and enjoy your eyes. Whether the tree they have is still clean and environmentally friendly, or someone made such multi-colored simplicity with a soul, it is not clear ....

National clothes with embroidery. Of course, I do not call for buying Bulgarian national costumes, but white cotton blouses with hand-stitched or cross-stitched embroidery are very, very beautiful. The same can be found men's and children's shirts. Incredibly beautiful skirts and aprons are black, with heavy looped, very bright and multi-colored floral embroidery. Home slippers with embroidery. Patterned wool socks. Embroidered towels. Embroidered handkerchiefs. Various dolls and dolls in Bulgarian costumes.

We definitely saw the most beautiful ceramics in Nessebar. Moreover, what is strange - we met really very beautifully painted dishes only on open trays, and when we went into large shops, lined with Trojan ceramics from top to bottom, we always left without a purchase, because the drawings were very primitive, compared to the tray ones. I don't know what's the matter. Could it be fakes? As we have, for example, there is a real Gzhel, but there is a hacky one. At least, there was always a signature on the trays: "The master made such and such, Mr. Troyan." Again - well, just a mystery :) - this seemingly simple multi-colored striped brown dish looks great at home. Using it is extremely enjoyable. True, there is a huge heavy “BUT” - this is the weight of pottery - you won’t take much away with any desire. We bought several coffee cups, mugs, a large salad bowl with wavy edges, a bowl for the baby, a pepper shaker, and a salt shaker. Next time :) I will come for a set on the dining table - I really liked it - two narrow jugs for olive oil and vinegar, and a salt and pepper shaker on a wooden stand. But there was also a moment that puzzled us a little. When drinking hot tea in a brand new Bulgarian mug, it was poured to cool in a saucer, and it cracked once .... Not understood…. What is it? – poor-quality roasting?

Bulgarian spices. Bulgaria is a southern country with good ecology, so here you can buy wonderfully fragrant herbs for seasonings. In Nessebar and somewhere in Sunny Beach, jars are sold, where spices are covered with multi-colored layers. Craftsmen-sellers have already reached decent heights in the backfill - they are different everywhere, then waves, then faces, then zigzags. But the main thing is not the pattern of the layers, but their number and brightness of spices, so choose the most colorful and varied. The main Bulgarian authentic spice is called “Sharena Sol”, it is not spicy at all, but extremely tasty and fragrant, stimulating appetite, red. This is a mix of herbs and pepper, and a piece of Bulgarian loaf is traditionally dipped into it, and then into honey. It is added mainly to the finished dish. I also want to note different types fragrant thyme. These spices can also be bought in large supermarkets. I almost forgot about the Bulgarian sea salt! We visited Pomorye and saw special salt plantations - fields where sea water is poured, then evaporated, and the remaining salt is collected in high hills that look like snow from afar. It's nice to take such a salty quintessence of the Black Sea with you.

Bulgarian jam. It is clear that the jam tourist leader is rose jam/jam/syrup. It is not as tasty as unusual and spicy. Know that rose petals also weaken (oh, what an insidious rose: (). We were looking for nut jam - from young green walnuts. We didn’t see it in stores, but it was discovered only by a sister on an excursion to the Bachkovo Monastery. It is dark brown , and the nuts floating in the syrup look like big shriveled leathery olives.The taste is a big fan :). By the way, about Bulgarian honey. In Nessebar, we just got to the Honey Fair, everything is so cultural and beautiful. Honey is squeezed out of a can (like liquid soap) onto a spoon, but its taste, to put it mildly, is not very good. Bulgarian medicines. Of course, I understand that it is not very correct to describe pharmaceutical products in the "Souvenirs" section. In this case, we will consider the title of the chapter conditional. So Bulgaria is famous for its cosmetics and its pharmaceuticals. Surprisingly, these wriggling wooden reptiles are found in mountains in almost every souvenir, and Babki-Yozhki in long Halloween hats with a nasty laugh and red eyes that light up when you press the button were the favorites of the child. Rakia is a fruit moonshine. The basis can be grapes, peaches, plums, apricots and pears. It smells, of course, whatever one may say of moonshine, but it drinks well and warms well. They say that good brandy should flow slowly, like honey, and easy to drink. If we compare, for example, with the Croatian Travarnitsa, then the latter is much, much, several orders of magnitude worse and stinkier :). There are a lot of types of brandy, and in order to choose, we took the Bulgarian seller aside and asked him one win-win question: “Which kind of brandy would you buy for yourself? Please advise according to your taste. Checked - after such a question, for some reason, in almost any seller, responsibility that had been dormant before wakes up, and for some reason the choice is made with great and unprecedented fervor. So now, the guy immediately started up, rushed to the counter and pulled out a long bottle from somewhere, brushed off the dust and carefully and solemnly handed the bottle to us: "This one." Still, I think, you can navigate by prices and, accordingly, choose the one that is more expensive. Well, there is also a purely feminine approach… which brandy has the prettier bottle. And really, without laughing!, Raki bottles can be very beautiful - blue, in the form of a grape brush, in the form of a glass barrel, in the form of a crystal bottle of cologne, ceramic vessels, etc.. The best Bulgarian brandy is called "Tsar Semyon / Simeon ". We bought “Trojan Plum” - it is made in the monastery, they insist on forty herbs, they put a leaf of St.
In the sausage department, wonderful raw smoked / “severely dried” Bulgarian sausages are waiting for you - lukanka, sushanitsy, pasturma and others. We did not find an answer to the question “where you can eat deliciously in Sunny Beach”, although we looked a bit like a Bulgarian restaurant. The fact is that we were without our men :), and what can two slender gazelles, saving their waists, and vacationing with a child, write about the delicious and meaty Bulgarian cuisine? :) We ate at breakfast and dinner at the hotel, and lunch, this is such a thing, firstly, and you don’t always feel like eating, and dragging somewhere in the heat, and most importantly, spending time looking for a restaurant and waiting for performance, it was easier buy all sorts of awesome Bulgarian yogurts, juices, fruits and sandwiches in the store and quickly kill the worm in the room. The child must be put to sleep during the day - there is no time to go, you know, to all sorts of restaurants ....

But, nevertheless, I will write about our small, but still experience, and most importantly, I want to immediately note - men - Bulgaria is your country! :) Meat, meat, and once again meat… but what…. Just imagine a typical Bulgarian restaurant - there is always a stone stove on the street, similar to a tall and voluminous barbecue - skara. It is three-tiered - on the first lower spit, the carcass of a ram is spinning and roasting on coals, psh, psh - meat juice drips and hisses on the coals, above it on the second middle spit a delicious toasted roast pig is spinning, psh, psh - its juice drips onto a shiny ram below , and carcasses of chickens are strung on the upper spit, similar from afar to a huge barbecue for Gulliver. All this is fried, covered with a crispy glossy crust, spinning, puffing and hissing, and the smell ....

Once, on the evening promenade after dinner, passing by such a restaurant, my eyes greedily snatched out unusually beautiful and mouth-watering kebabs on a tray. How they looked! - a huge sword on a wooden handle, all studded with pieces of meat mixed with tomatoes, peppers, eggplants. “Stop it, stop it immediately, you’re just from a hearty dinner,” I said to myself, “I was completely stunned, because you ate so much at dinner, where are you looking.” But she could not take her eyes off these wonderful kebabs, as if hypnotized. Do you know what is the most appetizing thing in barbecue? :) This is a park from a bitten ruddy and juicy shish kebab piece of meat….

Now I am talking about two restaurants that are located next to our hotel (behind it, closer to the sea, on the left, to the central alley) - these are “Pamporovo” and “Forest Hut”. The funny thing is that we passed by them almost every day, and always just in search of a tasty place, sure that they are somewhere over the horizon, but not at our side.

We first visited the Okean restaurant in the Pomorye Hotel on a tip from Iva, a Bulgarian from Solvex, who sold us excursions. She painted it very well - “an amazing place, always the freshest seafood” - she told how to find it and even gave a discount card from a travel agency. We found this "Ocean", and we were looking for it during the day, in the midst of the heat, the child was all steamed up with searches. As a result - 3 with a minus. No food, but a children's plate, consisting of oversalted mashed potatoes and creepy, suspicious sausages, inspired thoughts about the commercial mutual interest of representatives of Solvex and similar establishments.
It is interesting that Iva categorically forbade us to go to the Condor and Jenny restaurants, because all the tourists are poisoned there, and the sociable Bulgarian taxi driver Ivan, who drove us to Nessebar, immediately named "Condor" and "Jenny". It is quite possible, given our first experience, that these restaurants are simply in confrontation with Solvex, which is why they are promoting them in such a black way to their tourists.
Another Bulgarian told us about the second turnout - Nona - our guide in Shipka. She said that she herself celebrated her birthday in a good restaurant at the Brizar Hotel next to the Diamond Hotel called Trickers. Found. Cute. The menu is thick. We opened it in anticipation of a long-awaited acquaintance with Bulgarian cuisine. Everything is on the menu - Italian, Austrian, German, and Scottish dishes, only 3 Bulgarian ones, including Shopska salad and kefir tarator soup. The most delicious thing we tried there is the famous Bulgarian minced meat sticks - kebabs. Really amazingly juicy and delicious. But still, you can go to this place if you are passing by, but to look specifically .... And there are definitely kebabs in other places.

We saw Pamporovo and Forest Hut on the penultimate day. Not bad. Delicious shopski brynza, very tasty flatbread with cheese from the oven. It is a pity that we did not walk through the menu more thoroughly. This is the best place to come for dinner. In general, all our knowledge - how delicious Bulgarian cuisine can be - we endured thanks to the hotel themed dinners. If someone tells me a great place with Bulgarian cuisine in Sunny Beach, I would be very grateful.

In general - what is Bulgarian cuisine? Bulgaria is a healthy country of healthy food. There are countries where they eat mussels with truffle sauce with their little fingers sticking out, and there are countries where healthy, simple, tasty food is eaten with appetite. The above applies specifically to Bulgaria. The Bulgarians have not yet managed to cover the fields with pesticides, they have a wonderful climate, so they have very tasty ordinary vegetables and fruits.

Take at least a simple tomato - an unprecedented taste. I read that somewhere they staged a competition between Italian and Bulgarian tomatoes - they threw them on concrete walls from a height of one meter. The Italian immediately showed the seeds, and at least something for the Bulgarian - wipe it on your pants and eat. If you eat a simple Bulgarian tomato along with a simple Bulgarian feta cheese ... hold me, hold me, otherwise I’ll run right now again for tickets to Bulgaria. Peppers are just delicious. Layer cake - bannica with cheese - terribly tasty, even despite the fact that we ate it in a mass-tourist preparation on an excursion in a Bulgarian village. Soup with beans, in which you must definitely drop natural grape vinegar. Shopska salad - made from just baked bell peppers, just fresh bulgarian tomatoes and cucumbers, and again feta cheese - is known to everyone along with such well-established phrases as Burgundy wine, Swiss cheese, Dutch herring, Vologda oil and Ukrainian lard. And a rich soup-kurban from a ram, and of course a boy! - the guide Christo, almost cried, telling how delicious this soup is prepared in his native village.

I am generally silent about Bulgarian wine - in restaurants it is not customary to order it with glasses, only with a bottle, but not one. Bulgarian wine is just as excellent as French or Italian, only because of Ottoman slavery it did not receive more than five hundred years of PR promotion, like them. If you set yourself the goal of tasting one bottle of Bulgarian wine a day, which is on their shelves in stores, then here in Bulgaria you can stay for at least six months.

The Bulgarian language is extremely expressive, for example, in Bulgarian pepper is called “pigs”, which means hot peppers are “fierce pigs”.

Bulgaria has the most centenarians in the world - 4 per 1000 people, and it is believed that this is the merit of Bulgarian sour milk. It must be clearly understood that yogurt and Bulgarian sour milk are two completely different concepts.
Yoghurt is fermented milk that has been thermally processed to increase its shelf life.

Bulgarian sour milk is exclusive because it contains this live Bulgarian stick and is obtained exclusively in the process of natural milk souring. Real sour milk is strictly geographically tied to Bulgaria, because outside its native country this microorganism misses the hot Bulgarian sun and quickly mutates. Bulgarian sour milk is not exported, but only its production technologies and live sourdough.
For this reason, I highly recommend everyone to get acquainted with this microorganism in the form of curdled milk on the shelves of the dairy department in the store. It happens both in different fat content (2.5%, 3.5%), and from different manufacturers :) - from a cow, a goat, and a buffalo. The latter, for example, is called "Bivolsko sour bluff". Packaged in large cups, like our sour cream, it costs ~ 0.60 - 1 lev. I personally am not a big fan of yogurt (I don’t like it because it’s sweet), but kefir or curdled milk. Therefore, for people like me here in Bulgaria - a holiday of the stomach :). Even a child, having somehow tasted the sour Mlyako “Shipka” (environmentally friendly), said “sour / sour, but tasting”. We also tried "Rodopchanka" and "Vitela" (from the Valley of Roses).

Also in Bulgaria, which is famous for its pharmaceuticals, pharmacies sell the prebiotic LactoFlor, which contains this most useful stick. Our tour guide once said that with this medicine, which not only treats gastrointestinal problems and restores the intestinal microflora, but also strengthens the immune system, they raise children with problems of the musculoskeletal system in Bulgarian sanatoriums. I don’t know if I can believe this (and I really want to), but pharmacies sell this supplement (not a medicine) for adults (11 levs) and children (6.5 levs).

Children's surprises.

These are, of course, colds. We were on the verge of a foul. By my own stupidity, I almost caught a cold of the child. I so globally ensured that I didn’t get too cold out of habit, rubbed, wiped, wrapped in soft towels. And we almost got burned on slightly damp hair after bathing when we went to dinner at the hotel, and there we got under the air conditioners. Of course, we didn’t sit under them on purpose, but, apparently, it blew somewhere, and that’s all - the next day, a blocked nose with all the consequences. What saved - hot chamomile tea with honey in the morning, plus a couple more spoons of honey separately, washing the nose sea ​​water, nose drops from a pharmacy and just the Lord God himself. It's gone. But how unpleasant it is when you see that your child starts to get sick. By the way, a lot of kids just coughed hoarsely and snotty wildly. All parents are different and deal with it differently. The Swedes, for example, with whom we lay next door on the beach, did not bathe at all and did not pay even the slightest attention when a two-year-old baby choked with a cough.
There was also an awkward moment. We walked from the beach and decided to taxi to a pretty Viennese cafe at a nearby hotel - "Amadeus". There I specially ordered a fresh mix of juices from the children's menu, let me think to refresh myself with vitamins. The cocktail was called "Very Well", written - orange, pineapple and lemon juice. Children's cocktail at a non-childish, by the way, price. When they brought it to us, my eyes rose on stalks, like those of a Martian - judging by the cloudy color, these were clearly packaged mixed juices and, in addition, ice cubes also floated in the glass. Here are the goats ... sorry. I had to urgently re-order for hot tea with milk. When I paid, I saw packets of juices next to the barmaid. To be honest, even my wild imagination did not imagine that a cocktail could be gurgled out of packaged juices. Here and an adult, after such a reception, he will barely run to ... a hotel, but what can we say about children. In general, we have checked several times - the word "fresh" in the Bulgarian menu DOES NOT MEAN that the juice is freshly squeezed.

Final impression of Bulgaria.

If you ask me, will I go again, for example, to Croatia? “Well… I don’t know… well… maybe… or, most likely, once is enough. And to Turkey? - Well, ... I don’t know ... I’ve been there so many times already, ... I don’t know. And to Bulgaria? - YES!!! In general, Bulgaria left me hungry. Why do we consider this country exclusively as a beach or ski holiday. I am sure that you should definitely come here and see the whole country, all its parts, and Southern Bulgaria, and Northern, and Sofia (SỎfiya), Plovdiv, Burgas (BurgẢs), Gabrovo, Veliko Tarnovo, Melnik, Sozopol, the Ropotamo reserve and the wonderful cape Kaliakra, Balkan Mountains and Stara Planina. I want to learn more about the balneological resorts in Bulgaria and compare Sunny Beach, Albena and Golden Sands, they say that the last two are buried in luxurious greenery and pine trees. They also say that in the resort of Saints Constantine and Helena, almost every hotel has thermal pools. I would like to sit and taste wine in wine cellars, finally get acquainted with real Bulgarian cuisine in mekhanas, and also buy the warmest sheep blanket from shepherds in the mountains, and order hand-made cosmetics directly at the factory, which contains a lot of rose oil, and not one preservative. A little about the Sunny Beach resort.

I read a lot of reviews and other information about Bulgaria, but I could not understand what the resort itself is - what is it? - a territory with hotels along the sea with the same name as in Turkey, or is it a resort town. What is the infrastructure, is it possible to go somewhere in the evening, sit somewhere, buy something?

Now everything is clear.

Sunny Beach is a huge city of hotels, it is considered the largest resort in Bulgaria and is located in the south of the Bulgarian Riviera near Burgas. Figuratively imagine: a semicircle of the sea, a beach line, a small promenade, a fairly wide, “thick” (~ one kilometer) line of hotels - restaurants - shops, behind it - a highway, then a line of simpler hotels - apartments - construction sites - shops for Bulgarians - a bus station - a stadium, etc. Sunny Beach itself is a rather flat and not very green place, unlike, for example, Golden Sands and Albena, which are located on a hill and surrounded by forests.

Sea in Sunny Beach is a bay in the form of a convex semicircle. If you stand facing it, then on your left you can see a quiet semi-resort-semi-village of St. Vlas, and on the right is the ancient town of Nessebar. You can compare Sunny Beach with a giant soup bowl, along the slopes of which colorful hotel buildings and red-tiled houses flow down to the sea. But - it rather refers to fairly high mountains on the side of St. Vlas.

Myself beach, incredibly long and horseshoe-shaped. Inside the horseshoe is the sea. The length of the resort (measured along the beach) - ~ 10 km. There are two piers on the beach - in the center of the beach and on its right side. Boats run from them to Nessebar. About the sea and the beach I will write in detail in other chapters.

Somewhere in the center of the resort, the main street runs perpendicular to the sea, or it is - central alley. The main landmark is the Kuban Hotel - a long gray tower. This bustling alley divides the resort into two parts. The left one (if you are facing the sea) is older, i.e. built up for a long time, the right one is newer, i.e. built up not so long ago and continues to be built up. Accordingly, the left half is much more active, noisy, lively than the right. Even let's put it this way: excessively, too, over the edge of lively. All this does not mean that the right part is quiet, no, it is just as fun, but in moderation! This is an important understanding, because if you are not lovers of loud nightly fun, and you get into the loud half, your vacation will be ruined.

Our hotel was (as you understand) in the right, quieter part of the resort. Accordingly, I will describe - the sea, the beach, the territory and infrastructure of this part and near our hotel. I can't cover the entire 10 km space. But I will say this, one evening we walked very far along the embankment, paddled somewhere at least 3 km, and shamefully ran - deaf from the loud music pouring from every cafe, and stunned by the endless series of Bulgarian tents with Turkish junk. On this site, the feeling that we were in Bulgaria disappeared, and a vague idea appeared that we were walking around our clothing market.

A huge number of tourists flaunt along the embankment, and you won’t be bored, because in addition to restaurant and shop outlets, smart Bulgarians will extract money from vacationers in any way possible - you can look at Jupiter through a telescope, you can buy donuts, you can drink freshly squeezed juice, you can take a picture with a python and a sad alligator with its mouth wrapped in tape, you can feel like Robin Hood by renting a bow and arrow, you can drive a rickshaw, you can drive a car with bicycle pedals, you can drive an electric car, a little further they ride a carriage with horses, children run on rides, and adults on a terrible (in the literal sense) bungee.

At this point, perhaps, I will stop in more detail. The bungee is two huge pillars of support and two thick springy ropes hanging from them. Those who want to have enough adrenaline are tied with straps like a parachutist, attached to the ends of the ropes and launched upwards like a catapult. Unfortunately, the ropes prevent you from flying into the Bulgarian night sky.

Even from a simple introduction to this attraction in the form of looking at it with an open mouth, hair rises on end with fear. “Sheet”-s and “fuck”-and then rush in ascending order - if the catapult man flies to the ground, or in descending direction, if it is carried upwards. Only the Finns are silent on this attraction, and they are still trying to do a double somersault in the air. We know, we already know these northern impenetrable people, they rode a Finnish tornado in Tampere, where my voice disappeared from indescribable horror, and my hands grew to sticks that you have to hold on to, and Finnish children occupied the first most dangerous trailer, and still made on hands and feet. From childhood, they ride on such tornadoes, and then the catapult seems like a ride on a train.

I understand that the above may create a negative impression of the resort. But - we were there a couple of times, you need to walk along the embankment to orient yourself in the folds of the terrain and just in order to understand that you don’t need to go here. The best way to get away from the embankment is to walk along the beach, go to the night sea, throw off your shoes and splash your feet on the warm sea waves, under the dark Bulgarian sky, strewn with stars, walk to your hotel or just take a walk. And the sensations given by the night spanking along the seashore completely clog the artificial ones. Nobody forces you to go to the embankment, right?

There are no street names in Sunny Beach. There are many streets and lanes, but no names. Therefore, the names of hotels serve as landmarks there, for example, the Bally supermarket is located near the Diamond Hotel. You will definitely need a map of the city, keep this in mind.

An interesting point is still in Bulgarian hotels. There is no Turkish isolation here, so that "this is your territory, and this is ours", "here's a bracelet and a pass card for you." There is no such thing here.

The subtleties of choosing a place to stay.

I have already gone over the topic that the reviews of our compatriots in Bulgaria are 70% negative. - I'll try to decipher why the image of Bulgaria is such: dirty Bulgaria, smelly Bulgaria, disgusting Bulgaria, all Bulgarians are goats and idiots. Why is this happening? I think the point is that our people perceive holidays in Bulgaria as an opportunity to save wildly.

And this is true, Bulgaria offers very economical prices - for example, the Kotva 3 * hotel was offered to us for 400 € for 10 days. But at the same time, when buying such a tour, our people consider it appropriate to drive the maids, demand a change of towels once a day, be offended by the lack of delicacies for breakfast and dinner and the long road to the sea. Even such people easily shift responsibility from themselves - for the choice of a hotel, for the choice of a tour operator - to the Bulgarians. We Russians have such a mentality, remember, even Chernyshevsky rushed about in search of the “guilty”.

The Bulgarians are very friendly, even shy, they treat Russians interestingly - fraternally, as if they were their own, I can’t find another word for it. It is not necessary to draw general conclusions about the Bulgarians from the representatives in the market stalls. This is the same if you go to the clothing market in Konkovo, talk to the sellers and, on this basis, declare what kind of Russian goats. Even in shops and cafes, Bulgarians are intrusive in Slavic, that is, in moderation, there is no such stupefying stupid aimless inviting and sparkling eyes as, for example, in Turkey. A couple of times we had "misunderstandings", but the friendly attitude in its mass completely blocked this small negative.

Looking ahead, I will say right away - Bulgaria is definitely the place where you will return more than once. Only for this you need to meet two conditions: to determine your goals, that is, to position yourself correctly, and to choose your hotel very carefully. The hotel is 90% of your comfortable stay. If you do not miss, then the rest in Bulgaria will be called fabulous, if you fly by - disgusting.

What was important and necessary for us on this trip, what we were looking for? The sea is clean and childish. Sand on the beach, not rocks. The weather is not stupefyingly humid heat. Quiet place. Good infrastructure: hotel, food. Children's entertainment. Interesting sights. Shopping.

I will write about everything below in detail. I give everything 5. Except the weather.

I want to emphasize again, and I myself am always surprised - how different we are all. Therefore, I can not and will not advise anything. If possible, of course, it is better not to save. You need to choose the option that suits you. If, for example, you are active people, dancing and having a lot of fun, then, undoubtedly, fun places that are closer to the center await you.

If, for example, you really want to save money and have a good rest, and are ready to walk to the sea, then hotels are waiting for you not on the first line, but much further from the sea, or on the quiet village outskirts - St. Vlas or Ravda. If the proximity of the sea is important to you, but savings are no less important, then this option is feasible due to the hotel service - it will be lame, like the quality of breakfasts and dinners, but you will admire the sea view from the window. All in your hands.

Sunny Beach is a resort 10 km long! Imagine how many big hotels, small hotels and apartments there are. If you make the right choice (and for this you need to sweat), then Bulgaria and the Black Sea will give you a great vacation.

One excellent English-language search travel site helped us in choosing a hotel. They have a hotel rating next to each place you request. And since the users of this site are cunning comrades mainly from the UK, Scotland, Ireland and other countries that understand the European service, the objectivity of the assessments helps to make the right choice.

Relying on the opinion of the tour operator is very risky. I understood this when I saw with my own eyes the options offered to us in Moscow - “a great quiet little hotel Kotva” and “a chic Victoria Palace hotel, which is considered 4 *, but we guarantee you that it is all 5 *”.

Then, already now, having returned from Sunny Beach, I assessed the location of many hotels with my own eyes, and in principle, now I can clearly distinguish some that did not tell me anything before.

Our hotel: Riu Helios 4*.

This is the first line, the beach starts right behind the promenade. This hotel deserves all the compliments that tourists who have rested in it have dedicated to it. But it has both its own pros, and quite weighty minuses.

We were issued very quickly, our passports were left for the day, they can be picked up from the reception only at 12 o'clock the next day - this is the order. The room is a huge suite. The bed for the child is separated from the adult by a huge closet, it turns out such a comfortable private space for everyone. The room has a kitchen and a stove. Sofa (folding out), armchair, tables - coffee and writing, tv and a refrigerator in the mini-bar. Bathroom with shampoos and other beauty products and even music. Air conditioner. Huge balcony. The hotel is really great. sea ​​view.

Cleaning is perfect. It is customary for them to throw towels on the floor in order to change them. Why? This is due to savings and environmental protection: the less often you wash, the less different detergents are used, the better for nature. Here's the logic. We wanted to support the green movement and rarely throw towels on the floor, but we changed them anyway, without a sign. The Bulgarian maid is very friendly and hardworking. Left for tea left on departure.

The hotel building itself has a horseshoe shape. Inside the pools - for adults and a small shallow children's. Sunbeds and towels are free. There is animation and a kids club.

Food in a restaurant is a special conversation. For a buffet at the resort - 5 plus. We had breakfast and dinner. To avoid verbosity, I will easily use one voluminous word - delicious. That's what you try, everything is in-to-at-s-n-o. These are sensations long forgotten and stuffed with our creepy products. Of course, it doesn't have to be once in a while. There was a feeling a couple of times that it could have been better, but this is from the series "the best is the enemy of the good."

Breakfast: it is always a lot of yogurt, including delicious Bulgarian sour milk (more on that below), supplements to it - walnuts, pumpkin and sunflower seeds, dried bananas, strawberries, pears, dried apricots and raisins, muesli, cereal . Omelet, delicious sausage and ham cuts, cheeses, cheese, fried tomatoes, fried ham and sausages, hot beans and corn, hard-boiled eggs. Pancakes with jams and honey. Omelet on order. A table for those who cannot sugar. Juices. Coffee is brought in thermoses with milk. You make your own tea in a special teapot.

I have a complaint about breakfast.

Child claim. There was no porridge. What should I feed my baby? This cunning person immediately saw through the situation and took under his strict control the filling of sweet dried berries: strawberries, raisins and dried apricots in yogurt. It is imperative that dried apricots and strawberries be “aphid knocks / three pieces”. Useful additives in the form of nuts spat. Harmful pancakes with sweet jam threshed.

Adult claim. The breakfast didn't change, so it was a little boring. Omelet with toppings to order - it was a show with pouring tomato juice with rakia on a frying pan and lighting a huge fire on it. But the omelette itself was just useless - burnt and terribly dry.

Dinner is excellent. Juices, water, beer, wine - for your own money. Several times there was Bulgarian national cuisine. We really enjoyed. At the entrance we were met by a girl in a national embroidered bright costume, who offered bread and salt. You break off a piece from a lush loaf, dip it first in salt and herbs, then in honey and wash it all down with a glass of brandy. Delicious tomatoes, feta cheese, cheeses, Bulgarian basturma-shaped sausages, eggplant caviar. We ordered wine.

There are always several types of meat in the stalls - chicken, turkey, rabbit, duck, lamb, pork, veal, beef, to order (separate line) - roast suckling pig with gravy, grilled fish, squid. Just do not think that they give all this together - I just list the menus of different evenings. There were soups - which is very important for me - I fed them to my child. There was a cheese table - different cheeses, including my favorite brie, with nuts and grapes. Desserts - cakes, pastries, sweet things in bowls. Fruits - all kinds, but not very tasty. The only exceptions are melon, grapes and bananas. Everything is very beautifully served - bright national Bulgarian napkins.

The hotel has a lot of Germans, Swedes, English, Poles, Czechs and Russians. It is interesting that only the Russians are greedy at the buffet - there are as many on the plates as the last time, while the Germans have little. One day we were embarrassed. Near the dessert table, the chefs laid out a huge watermelon with a skillfully carved figure of a lion. “Oh, the Peugeot emblem, look, look,” two highly cultured girls “explained” to the child. Only at the end of the rest it struck - this is not a lion from the emblem of the Peugeot car, but actually from the Bulgarian flag.

At dinner, a separate Kinder table was laid, that is, for children. Ironically, it was lined with deep-fried potato balls, similar cheese slices, ketchup spaghetti, and pizza slices. Do they really think that children have such tinned stomachs? In the questionnaire for assessing the service of the restaurant, which we were given one evening, I wrote that, in general, the children's table implies the presence of something boiled, boiled and mushy, but not sausages with french fries. Here we never took anything.

The child ate soup, a very soft turkey, chicken, rabbit, baked vegetables, potatoes, tomatoes. And then .. desserts. Dorval…. There was nothing she could do but pull it out of her mouth. He threshed like Robin Bobin Barabek, and even pointed with his finger - this one “tasted”, and this one “last / middle”. I hunted for sweet rice dessert for him, but they were only given a couple of times.

Several times we had problems with seats. Breakfast starts at 7.30-10 and you have to get up early to calmly take a table, otherwise you will have to circle hungry birds around the busy ones. Dinner starts at 18 - 21, and I recommend taking tables in the open space, weather permitting.

We were lucky with the hotel. Excellent infrastructure, all amenities, delicious food - what else does a person need to have a good vacation? All this helped to perceive the situation positively, and if you do not work out with the hotel, you will be annoyed.

However, I still I will add a large fly in the ointment to the above barrel of honey. This "tar" almost spoiled our entire vacation - thundering music from a nearby bar-restaurant-karaoke. At first we were glad that our huge corner room overlooked a quiet green space. It turned out that we did not notice the dynamics behind the trees. It was loud horror. All daytime sleep and nighttime sleep were in question. Falling asleep to mainly German screams was unrealistic. At night, they ended at 11.30, i.e., Moscow time at 00.30, and during the day they could randomly activate at any minute.

It was especially pitiful for the child who tossed and turned under his sheet, pulled it over his ears, and could not sleep at all. And it was especially difficult for the first three days, when there was acclimatization, and we went to bed early, then in the evening we walked until late and came to the room when the pandemonium was already over. We wanted to change the room, but then changed our minds. I really didn’t want to pack my things and move again, this time, and most importantly - where, because music (if not this, then another) is heard from everywhere. We were saved by cloudy weather, which cooled the German urge to dance and sing.

A little about other hotels.

Later, walking around the center of Sunny Beach, we realized that our disco under the windows is a kindergarten, compared to what happens in many other hotels. And only after that I realized what the negative feedback is based on. Now, if you ended up in an unsuccessful hotel, consider that your vacation is gone.

An example of such a hotel is Victoria Palas 4*(it was offered to me by several agencies). It looks very modern and beautiful, the first line by the sea, everything is fine, at first glance, if you do not pay attention to the fact that it is located in the very center, or rather, the epicenter of noise on the central part of the embankment. Here is how it is characterized.

Tourist opinion: “This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. My partner and I stayed here recently for 2 weeks and regretted it almost immediately. First impressions of the hotel were good, the building itself was quite impressive, but thats where the good points end. Our first week in the hotel was relatively without incident apart from the terrible food. Most nights we avoided the free for all buffet by going to the local restaurants where the food was also somewhat disappointing but better than the slop served in the hotel! MacDonald's became our staple diet before long as at least you know what you're getting. If you do go there, don't be fooled by the impressive photos of the Victoria palace. Here is another approximately similar example - a hotel 3* positioned by our travel agencies as "quiet". If we got into it with a child, then after arrival, I would personally and seriously talk with the manager of the travel agency, which heavily promoted it to us. This hotel is located decently far from the sea, first of all, and also almost on the central highway, that is, if your windows face this side, you will admire the passing flow of cars and buses.

But, for example, in my opinion, good hotels: Neptune Beach4* And Riu Evrika4* (our agencies do not particularly advertise). The first one was next to our hotel, it is also on the very first line. Their advantages are a chic full-fledged view of the sea, near the beach and their own sunbeds, and a quiet promenade.

Neptune Beach

The opinion of tourists: “Neptun Beach hotel was really nice. No complaints at all. Hotel was cleaned all the time and room we were in was lovely-looked like just done up and had laminate flooring. We only ate breakfast which was basic but did the job. Restaurants were good and there were lots of bars. Neptun Beach is in the center of everything. Small path at the back of the hotel then its sandy beach with plenty of sun loungers. Hotel has a nice pool area and enough sunbeds. We found Sunny Beach to be nice and very cheap. First time ever we came back with money! If we went again we would definitely go to the same hotel. Spotless".

~Translation: “Just a great hotel. Great room, food, bar, location. Very close to the sea! We recommend to everyone and we will be back!”

Riu Evrika:

Tourist opinion: “The hotel is made up of several blocks situated around a huge pool and gardens. The hotel is excellent great, very clean and lovely staff, very kind. Right on the beach and the beach is beautiful. We were all inclusive during our stay and found the food to be good. Breakfast was a mixed hot and cold buffet with berry smoothies some mornings that were delicious. The snack bar offering burgers, Pizza, salad, kebabs was fine if you wanted something by the pool. Evening - always a good variety and a special each evening. We planned to eat away from the hotel for a couple of evenings as during 2 weeks the food can get a bit repetative but in the end we didn't bother as we enjoyed the food in the hotel. In addition to the buffet resturant there was a Bulgarian restaurant that you could book at no extra charge. This served traditional dishes and had a good atmosphere”.

~Translation: “The hotel consists of several buildings, there is a large swimming pool and a garden. Great hotel, very clean, friendly staff. Right on the beach, the beach itself is great. At breakfast - hot and cold dishes, very tasty. Large selection for dinner. Everything is very delicious. Several times we dined in restaurants for a change, but then we went to the hotel restaurant with pleasure. In addition to the usual, we also had a Bulgarian language at the hotel. national cuisine and great atmosphere."

I also really (!) liked the location of the two hotels - this Burgas 3* And Europe 3*. In appearance, these are huge skinny gray types of Soviet high-rise buildings, but the location for three-star hotels is chic - almost in the middle of the beach, almost on the sand, sea view, there is nothing loudly shouting in the neighborhood, there is a pier nearby.

The promenade ends / (begins?) at Neptune and Helios, and around Burgas and Europe there is almost silence, the beach and the sea on one side, and nearby a lively cheerful street with cafes, shops and other entertainment on the other. An excellent sea view is guaranteed to you, but of course, at the expense of food and other services - they are very scolded here. Probably, you can vary smartly, for example, take breakfast and eat in restaurants.
