How to get to bled slovenia. Lakes Bled and Bohinj in Slovenia. How to get there, what to see. The most interesting places around Lake Bled

Surrounded by mountains and forests, the alpine lake of glacial origin Bled is located in the north-west of Slovenia, at an altitude of 475 m above sea level. Lake Bled stretches for more than two kilometers in length; the width of the lake is 1380 m. The maximum depth is just over 30 meters.

In the center of the lake there is a small natural island Blejski otok; it can be reached by wooden boats, which can be rented at boat stations and at the pier, near the Park Hotel. The ancient Bled Castle rises above the lake, from which panoramic views of the Alps open. The castle houses a historical museum, as well as a restaurant serving national cuisine.

On Lake Bled, at the foot of the Julian Alps, there is a resort of the same name with a special subalpine microclimate, thanks to which the swimming season on Lake Bled is the longest among the Alpine lakes - and lasts from July to early September. The most comfortable temperatures for swimming are set at the end of July and remain until the end of August; during this period the water warms up to +25°C. The mountains protect the area from cold northern winds - and dry sunny weather is observed on the lake throughout the summer.

Bled is a fashionable and prestigious alpine resort, rich in thermal springs, the water from which flows into the thermal pools of hotels located by the lake.

Beaches

Bled has two beaches. Entrance to the equipped beach, which is located opposite the Park Hotel, is paid, and to the unequipped one, located opposite the Vila Bled Hotel, is free. Hotels do not have their own beaches; the exception is the luxurious Grand Hotel Toplice, which includes a small equipped beach.

It is important to consider that during the summer months the resort is very popular - and the beaches are quite crowded.

Accommodation

There are about a dozen and a half hotels and boarding houses of various categories along the lake, where you can stay comfortably. In total, there are four 3 * hotels on the coast, six 4 * one five-star hotel. It is best to choose a hotel with a view of the lake, which will allow you to enjoy the scenery without leaving your room.

Entertainment

Bled is a resort for those who prefer silence, solitude and a relaxing holiday away from the hustle and bustle. Despite this, the resort can be engaged in active sports. In particular, on the shores of Lake Bled there are mountain bike rentals, and a short distance from the coast there is a golf center and a farm where you can ride horses, as well as tennis courts. In addition, Bled has restaurants, an entertainment center and a concert hall, which turn into a venue for festivals during the summer months.

How to get there

Ljubljana Airport is located just 34 kilometers from Bled - and you can get to the resort in 25 minutes by taxi. From the center of Ljubljana, the most convenient way to get there is by bus or taxi, which are located at the railway station. Ljubljana and Bled are also connected by suburban traffic, however, it must be borne in mind that the nearest station to the resort is Lesce-Bled, located at a distance of four kilometers.

Lake Bled is the main attraction of Slovenia, a place of attraction for tourists from all over the world, one of the most beautiful corners of our planet and the main pride of Slovenia.

If you are in Slovenia or are still planning to be in it, then do not deprive the attention of the Slovenian Lake Bled. You can come to Lake Bled at any time of the year. From the Austrian and Italian border to Lake Bled 47 kilometers, from the capital of Slovenia - Ljubljana 50 kilometers.

By train to Bled.

The railway station Lesce-Bled is located 4 kilometers east of Lake Bled on the route Munich - Salzburg - Villach - Ljubljana - Belgrade.

You can get to Lake Bled by bus, which runs from the Lesce-Bled station once an hour (1.3 euros and 9 minutes on the way). The bus stop is on the opposite side of the road from the station. The bus schedule can be viewed. You can also walk or take a taxi.
Another railway station Bled Ozero is located next to the lake, on its western part, on the route Villach - Jesenice - Nova Gorica - Koper. As an option to get from Ljubljana, it is no longer possible due to the length of the route. First you need to get to Jesenice, and then transfer to another train in the direction of Nova Gorica.

Map of Lake Bled.

Ljubljana - Bled.

As I have already noted, the most convenient mode of transport in Slovenia is a car. There is public transport in Slovenia and it works quite accurately, but also quite slowly. For example, if by car you can get to Bled from Ljubljana in 40 minutes, then by regular bus route in an hour and twenty minutes. On the way, the bus calls in Kranj and does not travel along the motorway, hence the time difference. As for the price, getting to Bled from Ljubljana by bus for an adult will cost 7.8 €; round trip €12.84; for children under 4 years old - 1.5 €; children from 4 to 10 years old and for students and pupils of gymnasiums - 4.65 €. On the site bus service to Ljubljana you can see the timetable to Lake Bled and buy tickets.

By car to Bled.

Let's compare the monetary component of a trip for a family of 4 - two adults and two students on a bus and a car. To travel by bus from Ljubljana to Lake Bled and back, our family will need 2 tickets for 12.84 and 2 tickets for 9.3. Total 44.28 € and an hour and a half of extra travel time. Even if you rent a car (20 € per day is a very real price) + gasoline (10 €) + parking at the rate of 2 € per hour (let's count five hours), it turns out 40 €. Less than by bus.
On the official site Lake Bled you can see where you can park your car in Bled and how much it will cost.
Call or write to us and you will find out in detail about car rental in Slovenia: what documents are needed for this, what are the prices, where you can rent a car, etc.

Bled, Slovenia.

In addition to my car and bus, I can recommend getting from Ljubljana to Lake Bled by train. website of the railways of Slovenia. On it you can see the schedule of trains and prices for the trip. You need to look to the Lesce-Bled station. One way regular price €5.08 per adult; 2.54 euros for children from 6 to 12 years old and pensioners, students and schoolchildren from 12 to 26 years old - 3.56 euros. You can also save money if you plan to travel on weekends and holidays. Then buy a Turist vikend ticket which costs only 6 and includes your return journey.

Everything would be fine, but there is a small minus in the option with the train - from the Lesce-Bled station to Lake Bled is about 4 more kilometers. And then either walk or take the bus, which costs 1.3 euros one way. In this option, you need to carefully look at the schedule so as not to sit at the station for several hours waiting for the train. So on one such visit to Bled, I missed the train to Ljubljana by only three minutes, and waited for the next train for four hours. If suddenly it happened to you the same way as mine, I recommend walking to Radovljica, having a bite to eat there and walking around the old center with beautiful views of the mountains.

The cheapest option to get to Bled without a personal or rented car is TRANSPORT .
Another good option to get from Ljubljana to Bled is through the website of unofficial carriers TRANSPORT. On this site, people are looking for travel companions to save their money.

How the site works:
1. To receive information, you need to register. Registration in the upper right corner (Prijava in Registracija).
2. In the boxes Kraj odhoda (Place of departure), Kraj prihoda (Place of arrival) and Kdaj (When) - enter the data you need. If you need international transportation, then the button under these windows is on the right. Press and enter the data in the same way. Just do not forget that from where you are going, you will also need to return, so write down phone numbers in advance. The last day offers much more.

Bled weather.

The weather in Bled is quite unpredictable. When traveling to Lake Bled, you should not rely on weather forecast sites. So, for example, we arrived at the lake in a downpour and all the sites gave out a downpour during the day. But literally in 15 minutes the sky cleared up and during the day there was not a single drop of rain. In addition, the lake is almost always calm. Lake Bled is surrounded by high mountains that do not allow cold air to pass through. Thus, a special climate is created in the lake valley. In summer, Slovenians like to swim in the lake when the water warms up to 25 degrees.

Almost all tourists who come to Slovenia try to visit the picturesque glacial Lake Bled, which is considered the most beautiful natural landmark of this country. People come here to see the oldest Slovenian castle and a small temple on the island, admire the absolutely clear water and relax in a popular balneological resort.

General view of Lake Bled

Geographic features and climate

Slovenian Lake is located at the foot of the Julian Alps, on the territory of the Triglav National Park. It has dimensions of 2.12 by 1.38 km and a depth of just over 30 m. The natural reservoir was formed in a tectonic depression, thanks to the Great Bohinj Glacier.

Mountains reliably protect it from cold northern winds. Due to the mild subalpine climate, dry sunny weather reigns here in summer. The water in the lake warms up to +24°…+25°С, and both locals and tourists enjoy swimming in it. It is noteworthy that the swimming season on Bled lasts longer than on other alpine lakes. It starts in July and ends in September. In winter, the lake freezes, but frosts in these places are not severe.

Bled lies at an altitude of 501 m above sea level. Not far from it rises the highest mountain in Slovenia, Triglav (2864 m). The silhouette of this peak can be seen on the coat of arms and flag of the country. Due to the excellent climatic conditions and luxurious nature, the mountain reservoir is often called the “Paradise under Triglav”.

Balneological resort

The small town of Bled is located on the shore of the lake, surrounded by picturesque mountains and forests. It attracts travelers with thermal springs and ancient buildings. Since 1856, Bled has been known as a popular European resort, and thanks to this, the Slovenian lake has become one of the most visited lakes in the world. People come here for silence, solitude and a relaxing holiday.

The thermal springs of Bled are considered truly healing. They contain a large number of trace elements that help normalize metabolism and get rid of a number of chronic diseases. Many comfortable 3-5 * hotels have been built around the lake, and there are several excellent beaches. Water from thermal springs flows into hotel pools, and several popular spa complexes have been created here.

Opposite the hotel "Park" there is a paid beach, and everyone is allowed to enter the beach area near "Vila Bled" freely. Apart from the Grand Hotel Toplice, other hotels do not have their own beach areas. Those who prefer to spend their holidays in a tent go to the western shore of the lake, where the territory of the tourist camp is located.

Things to do on the lake

People go to the resort town of Bled not only for the sake of healing with thermal waters. During the tourist season, a lot of holidays, sports competitions and festivals are held on the shores of the lake. Theater and musical groups from Slovenia come to Bled to perform. Artisans put up for sale their handicrafts, and artists - paintings and drawings with views of Bled and the spurs of the Julian Alps.

At the end of July, the Slovenian resort hosts a celebration with colorful fireworks. And in August, an international music festival is held here, where you can listen to performances by folk groups and classical music concerts. In addition, major rowing competitions are held on the lake from time to time.

There is a 6 km long trail around Bled, along which tourists travel on foot, on bicycles and on horseback. For vacationers, the resort has modern tennis courts, an indoor artificial ice rink, and a popular golf center has been created 2 km from Bled. The favorite entertainment of tourists is horse-drawn light carriages - fiacres. Therefore, from early morning until late evening, the measured clatter of hooves is heard through the streets of the resort town and on the banks of the reservoir.

In winter, Lake Bled becomes a natural skating rink. Deep snow cover and mild climate make its surroundings a great place for fans of skiing and snowboarding. Not far from the lake there is one of the largest ski resorts in the country. Its tracks are designed for both beginners and experienced snowboarders and skiers. The winter season in Bled starts with the Christmas holidays and lasts until the beginning of March.

Many travelers go to the mountain lake not only for the sake of natural and architectural sights. Bled is a true gourmet paradise. Coffee houses and restaurants of the resort town offer delicious cakes "Kremna rezina" to vacationers. Masterpieces of culinary art are baked from delicate puff pastry and richly decorated with whipped vanilla cream. We are not talking about any "rubber"! Translated from Slovenian, the favorite delicacy of locals and tourists means "cream slices".

Church of Saint Martin

Fishing enthusiasts also do not leave Bled unattended. Fishing is allowed on the lake in certain places, although for this you need to purchase a special license.

Traditional boats "pletna"

Tourists are very fond of riding on the mirror-like surface of Bled on wooden “pletna” boats that look like Venetian gondolas. It is curious that "wattles" have been made since the end of the 16th century and this type of boat is found only on Lake Bled. They have a flat bottom, a pointed nose and a bright canopy that protects passengers from rain and sun. The rowing profession is highly respected by the locals and is passed down from generation to generation.

Wooden boats are waiting for tourists at the southeastern shore of the lake. The "wattle" can accommodate up to 12 people. Having collected passengers, the boatman rows standing, using two long oars, and carries tourists to the island of Blejski otok. The boat trip lasts from an hour to an hour and a half and gives all its participants a lot of pleasure.

Castle on the rock

The old fortification on a rocky cliff is considered one of the main decorations of Lake Bled. It hangs over the water itself and is effectively reflected in the mirror waters of the mountain lake. The climb to the castle is not very easy, but the views from above impress even sophisticated travelers. From the castle, in all its splendor, the forested shores of Lake Bled and the peaks of the Julian Alps open.

The fortifications on the rock were erected at the beginning of the 11th century and completed in the Middle Ages. Today, the old buildings have been restored and are used by the historical museum. In the wine cellar, where everyone is allowed, visitors are allowed to pour wine from a barrel into a bottle and cork it themselves, and on a press machine in an old printing house, guests of the castle can print a small souvenir for themselves.

An excellent restaurant serving national cuisine operates in old buildings. The food there is very tasty, but the prices for dishes are quite high. The ancient castle looks very impressive at night, when skillfully made lights are turned on on its walls and towers.

Island on the lake

On a small island, located right in the middle of a mountain lake, rises the old Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. Boats bring tourists to the pier, from where they can climb the picturesque stone stairs to the temple. Today there is a museum of ecclesiastical art here, and travelers are allowed to enter it for a fee of 3 € (2017).

The first chapel on the island appeared during the time of the Bishops of Brixen. In the 12th century, a basilica was erected in the middle of Lake Bled, and after it, a Gothic temple. The church, built in the Baroque style, has survived to this day. When archaeologists worked on the island, they discovered 124 burials of the 9th-11th centuries near the temple.

Lake Bled is the most popular body of water in Slovenia, located at the foot of the Julian Alps, next to the city of the same name, which is both a spa resort and a ski resort. Near the thermal lake Bled is the former residence of the head of socialist Yugoslavia, Josip Broz Tito (now the Vila Bled hotel).

Due to its geographical location, Bled has a unique mild healing microclimate with the longest swimming season among the Alpine lakeside resorts. The healing factor of the resort, in addition to the climate, is the water of thermal springs, which comes directly to the health resorts of Bled.

holiday seasons

The lake is located at an altitude of 500 meters above sea level. In summer, the water in Lake Bled warms up to +24 degrees. The swimming season starts in July and lasts until September. There are 2 comfortable beaches on the lake - urban, opposite the Park Hotel, with a paid entrance, and unequipped opposite the Villa Bled Hotel with free entrance.

In winter, skiing is possible in the vicinity of the lake. Local trails are ideal for beginners - small elevation changes (no more than 500 meters), gentle slopes. The ski season starts at the end of December and lasts until March.

But the most popular type of recreation on Lake Bled is trekking. From April (when the snow melts in the mountains) until November, crowds of tourists with trekking poles and backpacks go hiking. In the vicinity of Bled there are many trails of varying difficulty and length. You can go for a walk lasting 2-3 hours, or you can go on a full-fledged hike with an overnight stay in the mountains.

Attractions near Lake Bled

On the shore of the lake, Bled Castle has been preserved since the Middle Ages - the bishop's mansion (XIII-XVI centuries), which today houses the local historical museum. One of the most ancient castles in the country is located on top of a cliff with stunning views of the lake and the surrounding mountains. In addition to the historical museum, there are no less interesting tourist sites on the territory of the castle: a medieval forge, where you can watch the work of masters; an old chapel with skillful frescoes; a wine cellar where you can fill and take a bottle of wine yourself.

On the island in the center of the lake is the Church of St. Mary. The first church on a small island in Lake Bled was erected in 1004, and today's version is a Baroque church from 1698, in places retaining Gothic features. A Gothic statue of the Virgin Mary from the 15th century has also been preserved.

Another noteworthy church is the Church of St. Martin. An elegant neo-Gothic temple is located in the city of Bled. The temple is new, it was erected on the site of an old Gothic church at the beginning of the 20th century. Inside the church of St. Martin is painted with frescoes.

But the main attractions of Bled are the surrounding landscapes. We advise you to visit one of the viewing platforms in order to fully enjoy your stay in this alpine corner:

  • Ojstrica– the ascent from the shore of the lake will take about 20 minutes. The height of the site is 611 meters.
  • Osojnica– the ascent will take 45 minutes along a steep forest path. In general, 2 sites are hidden under the name Osojnica. The first, small Osojnica, is located at an altitude of 685 meters, and the second, large Osojnica, at an altitude of 756 meters (+20 minutes up). It is believed that the best view of Lake Bled opens from the top platform - at sunset, the site is crowded with photographers and tourists.

4 kilometers from the lake is one of the most beautiful places in Slovenia - Vintgar Gorge. This is a mountain gorge with truly wild nature: turbulent rivers with emerald water, waterfalls and natural pools.

It is also worth visiting the mountain plateau - a real alpine meadow with flower fields and snow-capped peaks towering above them.

Hotels near Lake Bled

Hotels on the shores of Lake Bled are cozy small houses with a homely atmosphere or large hotel complexes of world chains. Most hotels in Bled are 3 or 4 star, but you can find more budget options (hostels) and more luxurious 5* hotels. There is a campsite in the western part of the lake. The southern coast is the least inhabited - there are only 2 hotels.

Sometimes, tired of the noisy metropolis, polluted air and hot asphalt, you really want to find a place for a family vacation away from the city, in a quiet and cozy corner of untouched nature, where you can breathe fresh air and get rid of worries.

Bled resort is one of the few places in Europe where communication with nature is a special pleasure, and modern tourist infrastructure unobtrusively fits into the landscape and does not disturb harmony.

The resort seemed so calm to you that it was even boring? Do not rush to conclusions. Our article will tell you why holidays with children in Bled are spent by lovers of skiing, and those who cannot imagine a vacation without excursions, and connoisseurs of complete relaxation.

Bled on the map of Slovenia

The city of Bled is a small resort in the northwestern part of Slovenia, near the border with Austria and Italy, at the foot of the Julian Alps and on the coast of Lake Bled.

It is part of the Gorensky region (the administrative center is the city of Kran). The distance from Bled to Ljubljana is 54 km, to Jesenice - 17 km, to Kranj - 26 km, to Klagenfurt (Austria) - 83 km.

The region where Bled is located is rich in natural beauty. Among them is Lake Bled, incredibly beautiful, with transparent water of a fantastic turquoise color and with its own zest, thanks to which it cannot be confused with any other: in the center of the reservoir there is a miniature island with the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary.

You can sit on the beach for hours and enjoy the magical scenery and the soothing ringing of bells coming from the island.

Vacation with children

Why is Bled so loved? First of all - for its versatility. It has everything you need for a good and pleasant holiday: mountains with a lake that just beg to be in the lens, thermal springs, infrastructure that satisfies the tastes of even the most demanding tourists, attractions that will not let you get bored.

Although many consider this resort to be a romantic place for couples, holidays in Bled with children are no less successful. Why not? Quiet, calm, beautiful and, most importantly, healthy.

Here you can often see mothers with prams or babies who have only recently taken their first steps, but are already going on long journeys with their parents.
