Mount Baiyun is a mysterious ball, skyscrapers in smog and an alley of desires. Baiyun Mountain (白云山) Baiyun Mountain Guangzhou cable car south entrance

Guangzhou is the capital of Guangdong Province, one of the largest cities China, population – 12 million people. Most people come to the city for work. And I was pleasantly surprised when I learned that the city has a huge number of different parks - from gardens with a thousand-year history to centers where you can see migrating birds.

All parks open around 6 am. One day I went to the park early in the morning and was extremely surprised to see a lot of people there. At this time, there are many Chinese pensioners in the park who practice tai chi, a Chinese martial art that is good for health, play various games, sing, and traditional Chinese music plays. At the same time, you can also join them, they will gladly accept you, even if you do not speak Chinese. Just repeat the movements.

Guangzhou is also called the city of five goats, but to find out why, you need to visit one of the amazing parks - Yuexiu Park (Yuexiu Park).

Yuexiu Park

This One of the largest and most beautiful, in my opinion, parks in Guangzhou, its area is 860 thousand square meters. The park is located on seven hills and there are three artificial lakes. It opened in 1952 and shows the history of Guangzhou's development from a small village to a giant metropolis.

In addition to the magnificent nature, in the park you will find a statue of five goats. According to legend, many centuries ago, in order to save the inhabitants from hunger, gods arrived in Guangzhou on five goats, and each goat had twenty-five ears of grain. Since then, the five goats have become a symbol of the city and are depicted on many souvenirs, they can even be seen on the coat of arms of Guangzhou.

In addition to the statue of the five goats, in the park you can visit the Guangzhou Museum, which consists of the Zhenhai Tower and an art gallery.

Zhenhai Tower is a five-story building that was built in 1380 and was rebuilt five times, the last in 1928. Near the entrance to the building you will see two two-meter lions. Currently, the tower serves as a history museum, where you can find thousands of paintings and historical relics belonging to different Chinese dynasties, such as Ming, Tang, Jin.

In the gallery you can see works of local artists from ancient times to the present.

Entrance to the tower and art gallery is 1.5 dollars or 10 yuan.

As I mentioned earlier, there are three lakes in the park. At Beishu Lake ( Beixiu) you can rent a pleasure boat and go fishing.

Even though the park is very large, it is very difficult to get lost there because there are signs everywhere.

Flower festivals are held in the park in spring and autumn. At this time, the park is decorated with flowers and traditional ornaments, folk festivals and exhibitions are held here, and Chinese lanterns are launched.

There are several large restaurants and cafes in the park; one of the restaurants is located next to the lake and offers a wonderful view. Also outside the park there are several cafes of Chinese and Turkish cuisine(for example Bosphorus Turkish Restaurant)

Baiyun Mountain Park

Baiyunshan literally means "White Cloud Mountain". The park got its name because after rain in a clear sky, Mount Baiyun is shrouded in clouds. This is especially noticeable in late spring.

Baiyunshan Park is located 17 kilometers from the city on picturesque mountain. There are 30 peaks in the park, the highest peak is 382 meters high. Total area of the park 28 square kilometers.

Shamian island

Also, if you are in Guangzhou, do not miss the opportunity to visit the embankment sand island Shamian in the Liwan region. It is notable for the fact that it late XIX served as the center for centuries international trade, and mostly foreigners settled there. As a result, a lot of buildings have been preserved on the island, which were built in various architectural styles, such as Baroque, Gothic, Neoclassical... You feel here like in a small Europe in the middle of Asia. And even now there are many foreigners living on the island.

The island has a park, playgrounds, many different monuments, a hospital, banks, and cafes. Chinese modeling agencies and newlyweds constantly conduct photo shoots here. Constantly held international exhibitions art. And there are also many fishermen here. In fact, I'm not sure that the fish they catch is edible, since the city is very industrialized, and therefore the water bodies in Guangzhou are very polluted.

How to get there

To get to Shamian Island, take Subway Line 1, get off at Huangsha Station and then exit F. Once outside, you will see a mix of high-rise buildings and very poor Chinese houses. To get to the island you need to cross the bridge.

The Chimelong Safari Park

This is a giant safari park, located an hour's drive from the center of Guangzhou. Maps usually indicate Chimelong Paradise (Chimelon Paradise. If you love pandas, then this is the place for you. Since here is the center of the giant panda and a lot of little pandas. This is my favorite favorite place in general Guangzhou.

In addition to pandas, in the safari park you will find a huge number of animals from different parts of the planet, including koalas, kangaroos, elephants, white tigers, and many different species of birds.

In the park you can either walk or ride on special trams. The trams have several stops where you can get off and take photos. But this is not the case when you walk through the park and spend as much time as you need with the animal you like. You can easily spend the whole day here, as the park is simply huge.

I advise you to take free card at the checkout or at the entrance, this makes it easier to navigate and decide in advance what you want to visit if time is limited. In addition, there are signs everywhere in the safari park. It is better to come to the park in the morning, before there are very long lines and the animals are not sleeping.

The park hosts various shows throughout the day with the participation of animals - elephants, birds, tigers and others. What I remember most was the vibrant show with zebras, giraffes and many rare birds, all led by a Chinese man dressed as an Indian. All shows are free and in Chinese.

How to get there

The easiest way to get to the park is to take subway line 3 to Hanxi Changlong Station. It takes about ten minutes to walk from the station to the safari park.

Opening hours

The Safari Park is open Monday to Friday from 09:30 to 18:00, Saturday and Sunday from 09:30 to 18:30.

Price

Adult tickets cost $39 (RMB 250); A child ticket costs $27 (RMB 175). It is worth noting that children under one meter have the right to visit the safari park for free.

This safari park has several cafes and restaurants, mostly stylized (for example, decorated with decorations with animals). The Safari Park is located far from the center, so you can only eat there or take something to eat with you.

Since it gets dark quite early in Guangzhou, I recommend visiting the parks before 18:00. Although the parks have lighting, it is still too dark to enjoy a leisurely stroll and take a good look around.
