At the end of the year, I’ll tell you about my travel experience in luxury carriages Russian railways.

So, this summer I needed an urgent trip with my whole family (me, my husband and an infant child) from Sochi to central Russia. And due to the specifics of the direction, it was necessary to travel either by rail or by car. After weighing all the pros and cons, we came to the conclusion that we had only one option left - the train.

There was about a week left before the start of the trip. And you had to decide how to most optimally (comfortably and inexpensively) organize your trip? Agree, not every sensible parent agrees to play roulette and travel in a compartment familiar to everyone with all its risks, and even more so in a reserved seat. In the summer, trains in the Sochi direction are always packed, and therefore the chances of grabbing something from the set of “snore-socks-fumes-doshirak-nonsense-eggs-etc.” very large.

That’s why I started looking for a solution to my equation on the Russian Railways website, and within 5 minutes, clapping my hands with joy, I convinced my husband of the need to turn a blind eye to the price for the sake of the comfort offered. And I found a “Luxury Car”: http://pass.rzd.ru/static/public/ru?STRUCTURE_ID=5217

Here you have no neighbors, and a large bed (so comfortable for sleeping with a baby), and your own toilet with shower, and climate control, and much, much more. So much that I wanted to turn a blind eye to the cost of the ticket - 13,600 rubles per person one way! It’s good that we took it one way...

There was some kind of doubt inside that in the abbreviation Russian Railways R stands for Russian, which means everything can’t be so sweet. Well, okay, let's see...

But in the carriage, the first thing that caught my eye was that it was quite ordinary, and instead of the maximum of 5 promised compartments per carriage, there were them inside like in an ordinary compartment. I immediately thought - where did they hide the toilets then? Having entered my compartment and put my things down, I realized that no one was hiding anything here - we are in a REGULAR compartment car, except perhaps without the upper shelves. But there was even a ladder to the top shelf! Where to climb it?!

Being in a bit of a state of shock, I checked the ticket, and it indicated in black and white that our carriage was a LUXURY carriage. All that remained was to find out the truth from the dear guide. And then it turned out that it was ours...SV! If anyone has traveled in SV carriages, he knows how it differs from a compartment - not only in the absence of an upper bunk. I opened the Russian Railways website on my tablet to make sure I wasn’t completely crazy. And then the conductor (apparently, this is not his first case) says: “Well, look here at the bottom of the page it says that Luxury class coupes are designated (attention!!!) by the letter M - soft. And this is your Luxury there is a regular SV." In response to my shocked “But this car is not an SV, but an ordinary compartment without upper shelves,” the conductor only skillfully spread his hands and said: “Well, whatever it is.” At that moment, all the anger that existed in me wanted to splash out on this dear man. But he has nothing to do with it. The place to look for traces is in the management of this red-and-white, crooked-armed monopolist. Thanks to the conductor and for the story about how and where to properly book a SOFT carriage!

As a result of this trip, we had to seal the air conditioner with a garbage bag several times so that the child would not freeze up (in the miracle car the air conditioner does not decrease and does not turn off when the outside temperature is above 25), stay awake all night and monitor the baby’s sleep (to fit with him on a narrow It is impossible to leave the bed unattended either - there are no handrails). The chef finished us off with his delights of student cuisine for a couple of thousand for two.

The result of the trip is a destroyed nervous system and a crazy night for (only) almost a thousand US dollars!

Thoughts about the return journey did not allow me to sleep peacefully for 2 whole weeks - it would be almost impossible for even seasoned parents to experience such stress again.
Therefore, using the conductor’s advice, we found another train with soft seats. The cost there was already entirely for the entire compartment - a little less than 26,000. And before the trip itself, I was confused by the fact that it was lower than the first tickets to the miracle SV.

But, having entered the carriage, we were able to exhale calmly - this was the same LUX! With a large bed (in fact, there was a second one almost the same), with excellent mattresses and linen, an armchair, a toilet with a shower, with climate control and heating (it got sharply cold in those days). And even though the carriage still resembled a mix of two such Soft coupes and the rest of the “SV type”, we rode calmly and with pleasure.

We were amused by 2 things: the first was the words of the head of this railway that we were now in a mobile 5-star hotel (either he had never been to one, or confused it with cognac); and the second is that at the end of the journey along the chain the air conditioner did not work, then the boiler or flush in the toilets (as soon as one thing was repaired, the second was immediately turned off - and so on in a circle).

So my advice, friends - when traveling by rail, be on your guard and don’t fall for the stupid baits of these monopolistic swindlers. And have a nice trip everyone!

The SV car on the train is one of the most comfortable offers from Russian Railways. Places of this type are characterized by increased comfort and, as a result, higher prices. Next, we will look at the features of this type of carriage.

General concepts

According to the generally accepted formulation, SV is sleeping car with an increased level of comfort. This type of carriage has 9 compartments designed for two people. Such carriages differ from standard coupes more high level comfort. Since the times of the USSR, they were intended for movement over particularly long distances.

Such carriages consistently have more comfortable berths, additional attributes (built-in wardrobe, reading lights, etc.) and a button to call the conductor. The interior furnishings and interior are distinguished by their solidity and pleasant appearance. Of course, all this was reflected in the cost - it is comparable to the price of a plane ticket in economy class (if we are talking about the same points on the route).

Classification of SV type cars

SV-type carriages have several varieties, which differ from each other in their level of comfort. Next, we will analyze their features.

Increased comfort category – 1 B

B means business class. Such carriages have air conditioning and many additional services(food, fresh press, free wi-fi, hygiene items, etc.).

The purchase of tickets of this type obliges the purchase of the entire compartment (i.e. 2 seats). Business class carriages are available mainly in branded Russian trains. D

VIP – 1E

A special type of CB cars, which are available exclusively in high speed trains"Swift". They provide enhanced security measures: 24-hour security, video surveillance, etc.

In addition to additional services from class 1B, passengers in 1E are offered:

  • Dry toilet and shower in each compartment.
  • Sockets for each passenger.
  • Plasma TV.
  • Safe with several keys.
  • Shoe care products.

Just like in business class, such tickets imply the purchase of the entire compartment. In this case, the passenger can travel alone, but pay for 2 seats at once.

Economy class categories

Russian Railways, understanding market demand, offers passengers offers at reduced prices (the level of discount varies depending on the type of train, route and other parameters).

  • 1U – first class carriages, but without additional services included (except for bed linen, which is provided to each passenger regardless of seat class).
  • 1L - the conditions are identical to the previous example, with one difference - the absence of a bio-toilet.
  • 1E - the level of comfort is identical to classes 1E and 1B, only with the condition that a person purchases only one seat in the compartment. This ticket cannot be purchased in advance (the period depends on the specific train). We can say that this is a “last minute offer” from Russian Railways. When there are many empty seats in the first carriage on a certain route, passengers are offered to purchase tickets at reduced prices.
  • RIC. This is an analogue of SV, which is found exclusively in international trains. It is distinguished by the presence of a lower and upper shelf in the compartment. The comfort level corresponds to class 1B.

Video about SV carriages

Demand for SV has dropped significantly due to the high cost of tickets. In this regard, Russian Railways is trying to encourage people to buy through bonus offers (currently there is a discount of up to 40% when purchasing tickets 2 months before departure). Despite this, you can buy a plane ticket for the same price. Therefore, today SV carriages are mainly used by those who are afraid of flying or simply like to travel on trains.

When planning a long trip to cities in Russia or neighboring countries, many people make a difficult choice between a coupe and an SV. If the cost between types of cars varies significantly, the level of amenities is quite comparable. Let's try to carefully understand this issue and understand which option is more suitable for short and long-term movements.

Definition

NE is a sleeping car designed to accommodate 18 passengers (2 in each box), equipped with an additional compartment for the conductor, as well as 2 common toilets. The living conditions are characterized by high comfort, the interior is designed in a classic style.

Coupe- this is a type of carriage, intermediate between reserved seat and SV, characterized as economy class. It is designed for 36 passengers, who are located in 9 separate compartments. There are 4 shelves: 2 upper and 2 lower. Also in this car there are 2 toilets and a compartment for 2 conductors.

Coupe

Comparison

Thus, the main difference between these types of cars is their intended purpose. SV was originally created for wealthy passengers who want to travel with considerable comfort. In a separate compartment, of which there are 9, there are 2 shelves - only places for rest. The coupe has 4 shelves (2 upper and lower), accordingly, it is more aimed at the middle class.

SV is distinguished by high comfort; even the interior here is made in the spirit of classics. In the compartment, despite the soft backrests above the lower bunk, the presence of a table and a mirror, minimalism dominates. But the price of such a place is significantly lower than that of SV: about 2 times. If a passenger travels on the bottom bunk, he will not notice any particular differences between the indicated types of carriages. It is worth noting that the SV can be single, double or triple, while the coupe is always designed for a maximum of 4 passengers.

Conclusions website

  1. Number of passengers in the carriage and compartment. The compartment is designed for 36 people, the SV - for 18.
  2. Number of shelves. There are 4 shelves in the compartment (2 upper and 2 lower), in the SV there are only 2 (both lower).
  3. Interior. Minimalism dominates in the coupe, while classicism dominates in the SV.
  4. Conditions of stay. The SV is more comfortable than the coupe, and the level of service is higher.
  5. Solution. Coupe is a classic option, always designed for 4 seats. SV can be 1, 2 or 3-seater, depending on the type of car.
  6. Price. The price of the SV is approximately 2 times more expensive than the coupe.
