Hiking in Karelia. Tours to Karelia. List of required equipment

No problem! Karjala Park tours are designed for both professionals and amateur beginners. Thanks to the incredible number of rivers, lakes and other water bodies, water tourism in Karelia is very developed and enjoys particular success.

After all, this is not only a way of moving along the river - it is a separate art that allows the participant not only to show his physical strength, struggling with the rapids of whimsical rivers, but also to have time to enjoy picturesque places. What can you see while rafting down mountain rivers:

  • historical and modern villages: Rubchoila, Keret, Kinerma, Umba and Nizhnyaya Pulonga. Many of which are known for their uniqueness and historical significance. Each of the villages has its own distinctive characteristics and cultures;
  • the second largest in Europe is Lake Onega, the beauty of which fascinates, and forces true artists to take out canvases and perpetuate all the mystery and mystery of this place;
  • The largest freshwater lake in Europe is Ladoga. Its area is 18,400 km! When creating Lake Ladoga, nature did its best. Numerous islands that adorn the lake give it a special uniqueness and will not leave anyone indifferent;
  • "Devil's Chair", also known as Mount Big Vara. A huge stone mass, which from a distance really looks like a huge chair;
  • Botanical Garden. The Botanical Garden contains plants from all over the world. African, American and European exhibits can be found here. The special pride of the garden is the Karelian birch;
  • numerous rapids of different difficulty levels (Pink Elephant, Mill, Canyon, Khramina, Big Tolly, Kumio, Dzotovy, Bear and many others);
  • Mount Huatavaara, which has gained fame as the most mystical place. There are many legends about this place and this is not surprising, because this is where the burials of shamans are located;
  • Mayachny, Andronin, Oleniy islands;
  • rifts and rapids of the rivers Shuya, Suyoka, Uksa, Vitsaoya, Kolosyoki, Keret, Umba and others;
  • lakes Oyarvi, Vedlozero, Pistayarvi;
  • ten-meter Arengsky waterfall;
  • museums: ancient Sami buildings, Sheltozero Vepsian ethnographic museum and a lot of other interesting and educational things.

This is the best way to take a break from all the benefits of civilization and truly taste the beauty of life. With Karjala Park tours you can learn to: cope with violent rapids; install chum; operate a kayak; operate a canoe and kayak. Hello, friends!

With this post I open a series of stories and photo reports about my hikes, which I have been going on one way or another since the 8th grade of school. Not to say that they are particularly extreme, but they are not purely touristic either. I went on pure hiking trips, rock climbing trips, horseback riding trips, kayaking trips, etc. But the greatest pleasure has always been given to me by leisurely, relaxing hikes in Karelia and the Kola Peninsula. Let's start with them. In this part there is a short story about a calm, partly walking holiday in Karelia. In the next one - Karelia cars with off-road elements.

So, Karelia.

A place where you always want to return. Beautiful nature, tranquility and tranquility, thousands of clean lakes, hills covered with moss and lingonberries, and of course pine trees. Being in the midst of this splendor, breathing crystal clear pine air, you relax your soul and body from the stuffy, bustling metropolis. Our hike began in Kandalaksha, which can be reached by train along the Oktyabrskaya railway in about 30 hours (some of my trips to these regions began from Khibiny, but more about this place some other time). The Kandalaksha station looks quite prehistoric, and not a single detail has changed in it since 1998, when I was first in Karelia.

The purpose of our current trip was simple to the point of disgrace: to live in a primordially Karelian village, walk through lingonberry trees, visit Hit Island (a place famous for its nature and remoteness from settlements, in the center in a small rock there are many beautiful “Garnet” stones, similar to “Ruby” ), go to the White Sea, where you can live in a fishing village and fish with the locals. That seems to be all:)

We started from the village. Since the late 90s, I knew a former mining village a few hours by train from Kandalaksha, so we went there.

From this station, walk 6 km inland and we are there. Unfortunately, I don’t have any photographs of the village, so I’ll describe it in words. Naturally, like most mining villages, it is half extinct. The houses are abandoned and no one needs them. What houses, whole mines. Along with cabins in which helmets and self-rescue devices are on the shelves. They've been lying there for thirty years. In such places you can't help but feel like time has stopped. But you can live in a completely normal hut without problems and for free, just tell the locals that you are tourists, you just came to stay and pick berries. They will certainly find you an empty house with a stove)

After staying near the village for a couple of days, picking blueberries and just taking a break from the road, we headed to Heath Island. It is approximately 5 hours walk from the village. Halfway along the dirt road, along which during the entire 3 hours you will not meet a single car or a single person, the second halfway through the forest. The road is not easy, but then - beauty!

An island lost in the middle of the taiga, which can only be reached from the mainland by raft. On the island itself and around it there is virgin nature. After a tiring 5 hours of walking with a 40-kilogram backpack, a long-awaited stop. But not for long. You need to set up camp, find firewood and cook lunch. This is a hike, baby, not Sochi)

On the way somewhere in Karelia, it is very easy to pick up a fair amount of good mushrooms, which literally grow on the road. We found them very useful as our first lunch on the Heath.

Well, after such a lunch, which naturally included 50 grams, you can remember your childhood on the road)

Unfortunately, for reasons beyond our control, we were unable to go to the White Sea and were forced to return to Moscow after stopping at Khit. It was decided to go to the sea next year, but in the end it turned out in a year, but by car.

Nature of Heath Island.

These guys are everywhere here, right on the road.

View from Heath Island to the bay, beyond the bay there is a huge lake in the middle of the taiga.

Express tent installation in 4 hands.

A light snack while waiting for the train.

Sometimes it’s sad to leave, especially if the program is not completed. But, unfortunately, not everything always depends on us.

Now some tips for a novice hiker, in case someone finds it useful)

1. Personal equipment.

It is better not to skimp on equipment. On a hike, “it’s all yours.” I will especially highlight the backpack, knife, boots and jacket.

Backpack - 80-90 liters, with a rigid back (usually metal plates) and a strong lumbar belt. The belt is very important! It accounts for up to 50% of the load. Without lumbar support with 40 kg you will not walk even 300 meters. I advise you to buy once and for all a good backpack from a reputable company. For example, Tatonka, like mine.

A knife - it should be comfortable, not big and not small, not folding and not cost 200 rubles. Here everyone chooses for themselves, after much experimentation I found my knife - the Swedish Mora 2000. But it’s hard to find it in Chinese, but it’s real.

Boots - I've had Salomon's my entire hiking life. Two pairs, not a single one has fallen apart in 10+ years of hiking. You can have Columbia, it's a matter of taste. But in our hiking group everyone has Salomons. In general, boots should be light and waterproof , with high ankles. Plus, rubber boots are a must if we go to Karelia.

The jacket must be membrane and waterproof. But not like a waterproof windbreaker, but a real membrane waterproof jacket.

2. Route. It needs to be thought out in advance, and only adjustments must be made on the ground. I won’t explain why, just believe me and that’s it)

3. Locals - without the need to make contact, but also not to be afraid. Be polite and careful. Don’t flash money, don’t talk too much.

4. Food - think in advance about what and how you will eat. There are two cans, don’t skimp on them. Good stainless steel, one is slightly smaller than the other. All utensils are metal, metal thermo mugs. The main food on the hike is stew, pasta, rice - take with you, potatoes - from the locals. Vodka - you can use local Guarantor, but only within the norm. stores

5. Mosquitoes - a lot) And midges) Therefore, anti-mosquitoes and a net on the face. Pants should preferably have a string or elastic at the bottom so that there are no gaps between the boots and pants.

6. First aid kit - very important. In our group, I am responsible for the first aid kit; I have about 100 items with me. You will be on foot, in the taiga, take this seriously!

7. Axes - one, small, but good and sharp.

8. Tents and sleeping bags - light, compact and high quality. Tent - with a good awning. Sleeping bag - designed for the desired temperature regime. There is no need to take a sleeping bag with a comfort temperature of -12 in August. You just can't sleep in it.

Well, that's probably enough for a start) In the next post - a road trip, with photographs and a bonus in the form of a report on the preparation of an OFF-road car, this is also interesting. I will answer questions in the comments if any arise.

To everyone who read to the end, thank you!

When speed doesn't matter. When everything fades into the background before the beauty of the moment. When you feel alive, breathing in the fresh air of the Karelian expanses. Overcoming every, even minor, obstacle, you feel like the hero of this day and the conqueror of nature, being in harmony with it.

Hiking tours in Karelia and the Kola Peninsula: beauty in every step

Hiking in Karelia and on the Kola Peninsula (Murmansk region) gives unique emotions. Having experienced them once, you want to repeat them again and again. For those who love hiking, we have created several extensive programs that will open up the Karelian Republic for you from a new side. Real adventures await you, with real tests that will allow you to discover your capabilities from a new side.
That is why all tours of this kind are accompanied by an instructor. And before setting off, we conduct a mandatory consultation on compliance with safety measures. And one more important attribute is equipment.

Hiking in Karelia: programs

Our tours last from 3 to 8 days so you can enjoy overnight stays in nature, sunsets and sunrises, and see as much beauty as possible.

We concentrated on the beauty of the Kola Peninsula, because this is where there are the most natural landscapes and beautiful routes.

For example, our most extensive hike includes conquering the peaks of Karnasurt and Kedykvarpakhk, admiring the splendor of the purest Seydozero, and begins in Olenegorsk. You will also experience an absolutely unforgettable sensation from wading the river. After crossing the Seydjarviok River, you will see a unique city of shamans, hidden inside Mount Ninchurt, which has not yet been properly explored by scientists.

You will also be lucky enough to admire the surface of Lake Sengisyavr and overcome it. Along the way you will find incredible, breathtaking beauty, views worthy of magazine covers. Don't forget to bring a good, durable camera for location shooting so you don't miss out on any great shots.

Pay attention to our recommendations for physical activity and traveler's abilities. We do not advise unprepared people to participate in this kind of hikes, since they involve overcoming mountain ranges, although not the highest and most difficult, but requiring physical effort.

Conquest of Vottovaara - the most mysterious mountain of Karelia. These are bizarre sculptures and real natural structures made of stones, the mystery of which has not yet been solved. The mountain is also considered to be a “place of power” that attracts mysterious phenomena.

During the journey and ascent to Vottovaara, we will examine the famous stone seids, the amphitheater located at the very top, as well as the “stairway to heaven.” The complex of the natural reserve also includes the so-called “Mountain of Death” (the site of the death of a detachment of partisans during the Great Patriotic War).
In short, a non-trivial adventure awaits you with the conquest of the most mysterious mountain of the Republic, shrouded in many secrets, myths and legends.

Starting from Olegenorsk, we set off on a separate walking tour to Seydozero. During the hike, we will reach the shore of the famous reservoir, set up a camp and enjoy relaxing on its shore for the whole day. Another memorable detail of the trip is a visit to the village of Lovozero, where a museum dedicated to the life of the ancient Sami has been created.
Challenge yourself and discover the true beauty of Karelia and the Kola Peninsula with “Forest Tale”.
