The Chinese city of Hunchun (translated as “gate of spring”) is known not only to residents of the Far East, especially Primorsky Krai or Khabarovsk, but also to Russians from other regions of the country, as one of the many cities in China where a Russian tourist-traveler can feel almost like Houses. This tourist city with its own specifics and characteristics, which actually received its development precisely thanks to cross-border tourism, the boom of which occurred at the beginning of 1990-2000.
The history of Hunchun is rather modest, except that in the 19th century it was in this city that an agreement was concluded between the Russian Empire and Imperial China on the state border.
Now it is a completely modern city with a population of about 300 thousand people, which has modern infrastructure, a network of very good roads, and tourist services.
The mainstay of Hunchun's economy, other than tourism, until recently was mainly agriculture and food processing, as well as coal mining at several local mines. Now the basis of the economy of this wonderful city is cross-border trade and economic cooperation with both Russia and North Korea, the borders with which are literally 14 and 10 kilometers away, respectively.
Actually, thanks to this unique location at the junction of the borders of three states, Hunchun has become attractive not only for tourists, but also for businessmen.
Another feature of this city is that it has a multinational population, where approximately half of its population are ethnic Koreans (Hunchun is part of the administrative structure of the Korean Yanbian Autonomous Region, centered in Jilin or Jilin), and the other half are Chinese ( predominantly Han Chinese). Geographical position
The main feature or attraction of the city of Hunchun is, of course, its geographical location. There are few places where you can see the junction of three state borders. In this case, Russia, China and North Korea (DPRK). Moreover, this is not difficult to do, since there is an opportunity to visit a special tourist center on the Tri-Border Region, located in the town of Fanchuan. The journey there by taxi will take only 30-40 minutes (taxi cost from 50 yuan). Also, visits to the Tri-Border region are organized with the help of tourist groups. From the observation tower, in good weather, you can see not only the junction of three borders, the border river Tumangan or Tamanjian, Lake Khasan, but even the Sea of Japan. It should be noted that this tourist route is popular not only among Russians, but also among the Chinese themselves, who come here from Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong (Hong Kong), and there are also many European tourists.
Ling Bao Si Temple
The next attraction of the city, which has a historical and cultural national connotation, is the active Buddhist temple of Ling Bao Si, located on the small mountain Bai Shan, which offers a bewitching panoramic view of the city.
