Batumi: what to see, where to go and what to do. Tips for tourists: what to see in Batumi What to see in Batumi

A port on the Black Sea, the capital of Adjara and the main Georgian resort area. Batumi is located on the Kakhaber Plain. The main part of the region is adjacent to the bay along the length of the Bartskhan and Korolistskali rivers.

Today Batumi is an important tourist and economic region of the country, which is famous for its historical monuments and modern buildings. The ancient city tells its own story from the first century AD, and construction is still ongoing. Popular attractions of Batumi are further in the review, which will help to create an educational tour of one of the main cities of Georgia.

Sights of Batumi: photos and description

The streets are located according to the Roman principle - parallel. This placement makes it easier for tourists to navigate and inspect the monuments. From our review you will find out which places are worth visiting first.

Botanical Garden

Plants from all over the planet are represented here: from Alaska to Australia. It is incredible that so many plants are collected in one place. The garden is located near the city and can be reached go by bus. It is better to start moving through the grove from the end and gradually walk towards the city.

The attractions of Batumi include one of the most beautiful places, and the question of what to see first is immediately clear - Piazza is at your service. This Georgian masterpiece is constantly in action: holidays, celebrations and concerts. The name is Italian in style, although the square itself is similar to the Venetian San Marco. You can contemplate unique mosaics, artistic paintings and stained glass windows. Touch something beautiful and majestic.

The incredible changes in the city allow us to call Batumi a real museum of modern architecture. Interesting exhibits can be found not only on the streets, but also in the Askoy art gallery. Few tourists know about it, since the gallery opened relatively recently - 6 years ago. Here you can get acquainted with the creations of artists, sculptors, and jewelers of modern Georgia. The works are put up for sale. The gallery constantly hosts new exhibitions.

Argonaut Square or Era

In the center of the city there is a sculpture from the myths of Medea, who holds the Golden Fleece in her hands. In Georgia, Batumi has many attractions, both modern and ancient. They say that the Autonomous Republic of Adjara, which is part of Batumi, was once home to an ancient civilization. Medea was the daughter of the king, but she disobeyed her father and, together with the Argonaut Jason, stole the Golden Fleece - the talisman of the people of Colchis. Place de l'Eure is small but beautiful - decorated with plants and small statues.

Useful for tourists:

One of the most famous works of art in Batumi. The creation of Tamara Kvesitadze is located on the embankment. The composition symbolizes the heroes of the novel of the same name by the author Kurban Said. Synopsis of the book's plot: the young man Ali loves the girl Nino, but they cannot be together. Later, the young people overcame all obstacles and got married, but the guy dies, and Nino is left alone with her little daughter. Are you thinking about what to see in Batumi and where to go, then go straight to the city embankment and watch the beautiful metal sculpture that won the hearts of everyone who saw it. The work was installed in 2010 and is constantly in motion: 8 m high figures converge and diverge every 10 minutes. It is especially mesmerizing in the evening: in the dark the sculpture is illuminated in different colors.

Did you know? At first the figures were going to be called “Man and Woman.” The author's work was inspired by the novel of the Azerbaijani writer Kurban Said. After they decided to put the sculpture in Batumi, it received the names of the heroes of the book.

The citadel is located near the Turkish border from the city on the southern side, 15 km away. The structure has an area of 4.5, the walls are 5 m high, and the towers are 7 m high. Until today, out of 22 towers, only 18 have been preserved. Once upon a time, the Gonian citadel was a stronghold of the Roman state - it guarded the exits to the Black Sea. The first settlements of Georgia of national importance appeared in this place. Archaeologists have been excavating since the 60s of the last century. Today it is a museum-reserve. Gonio-Apsaros is on the list of important attractions in Batumi.

One of the largest bodies of water in the city. In the western part of Ardagan there are two small islands: on one there are tall willows, and on the second there are birds. In summer, you can admire the singing fountains on the pond and stroll along the bridge. The second bird island is privately owned.

Are you interested in religious sights and are wondering where to go in Batumi? The temple will be one of the best options. At first the building was created as a church for Roman Catholics. After the country joined the USSR, the temple was used for economic needs. Believers began to demand the return of the cathedral's significance, and after restoration the original face of the building was returned. The temple was transferred to the Georgian Orthodox Church. Today it is one of the most beautiful Gothic style cathedrals in the country.

Did you know? The church was built thanks to alms from parishioners in 1898-1902. The bulk of the amount was contributed by oil industrialist Stefan Zubalashvili.

The symbol of Batumi is light and music sources, of which there are several in the city. One of the most popular fountains is located in the center of Lake Ardagani. Every day this attraction attracts thousands of tourists. A spectacular spectacle of rainbow jets that dynamically “dance” to the music. After 21:00 the performance begins, then the laser show. For beautiful photos, choose a place on the sea side. This way both the fountain and the mountains will be included in the frame.

Batumi has interesting places of modern architecture. On the country's Independence Day in 2010, a new building was opened in the city. The project of the Italian architect Michele de Luca was made in the form of an inverted bottle, which is illuminated in the evening with multi-colored light. The principle of operation is “one window”. The building housed all legal institutions. The ground floor is divided into two areas: self-service and quick transactions. If a person is unable to perform a procedure on his own, an employee will help in any of the halls.

Useful information for tourists

Batumi is a resort and port city in Georgia, located on the Black Sea coast. Currently, the city is an important cultural, tourist and economic center of all of Georgia. Tourists can admire both ancient sights and amazing skyscrapers.

One of the most pleasant places for a walk is the Seaside Park, which is an 8-kilometer boulevard stretching along the beach, Rustaveli and Ninoshvili streets. Every year the tourist flow is only increasing, so Batumi is becoming an increasingly attractive corner of Georgia for active travelers.

The Batumi Botanical Garden is one of the largest and most beautiful in the world. It is here that you can see rare representatives of the fauna.

The history of the botanical garden began back in 1880 thanks to the scientist Andrei Krasnov. The attraction opened to visitors in 1912.

Nowadays the garden area reaches 110 hectares. More than five thousand plants grow successfully here, among which are:

  • Japanese sakura.
  • Palm trees.
  • Cacti.
  • Eucalyptus.
  • Magnolias.
  • Cypress trees.

The Batumi Garden is based on the principle of the famous Gardens of Babylon, so it descends in tiers from the very tops of the mountain to the Black Sea. At the very top are the plants of the Himalayas, at the foot are the plants of the Mediterranean countries. Between them are plants from North America, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Mexico, and Transcaucasia.

The Batumi Dolphinarium has gained amazing fame since 1975. The Dolphinarium is popular not only among Georgians, but also among foreigners, so it is advisable to take care of purchasing tickets in advance.

Performances are held in a modern open-air complex. To decorate the pool, special items are used to create an atmosphere of wild nature. The entire auditorium is protected by a glass dome, thanks to which any weather ceases to be dangerous and you can enjoy the performances to the fullest.

Location: Rustaveli street - 51.

A worthy attraction of Batumi is the “Love” sculpture, made of metal and seven meters high. The sculptural composition dedicated to a couple in love consists of two figures. The figures are constantly rotating, and their position changes every ten minutes. Initially, they go to each other in order to connect. Subsequently they move away from each other. This mechanism allows you to think about how important it is to be close to loved ones. The significance of the sculpture “Love” is difficult to overestimate.

This attraction is one of the newest in Batumi. Its appearance dates back to 2012. However, during the first five years, the attraction managed to become famous thanks to its extraordinary performance.

It would seem that the object is dedicated to DNA. In fact, its name suggests something else. The fact is that nucleotides replaced the letters of the Georgian alphabet. As a result, the landmark acquired special national significance.

The 130-meter tower is visible from many places in Batumi, because it rises above other buildings.

The upper platform can only be reached by stairs. Then it becomes possible to make sure that the tower houses a revolving restaurant. If you wish, you can relax here, enjoying the panorama of Batumi.

Location: Seaside Blvd.

The park complex, close to the composition of a classic boulevard, is located in the north-west of Batumi. Its history started at the beginning of the 20th century. Previously, there was an entire garbage dump on this territory, which spoiled the opinion of visiting people about the glorious Georgian city. Active public works made it possible to create the Seaside Park.

Nowadays, you can enjoy a walk, visit cafes and clubs, have fun on attractions and playgrounds, play tennis, be inspired by panoramas and get closer to nature, and admire singing fountains. This pastime will appeal not only to local residents, but also to tourists.

The Seaside Park is a large boulevard 8 kilometers long, divided into five alleys, each of which runs parallel to the other four. Between the alleys there are cultural institutions (cafes and restaurants, playgrounds) and flower beds.

Location: Seaside Blvd.

One of the main local attractions is the dancing fountains, surprising with lighting effects and mesmerizing music. In Batumi you can find several similar fountains, and two of them turned out to be worthy objects for entertainment. People must try to show dexterity and speed by running across the territory of the fountain and at the same time not getting hit by the jets, which appear and disappear.

The best fountain is located in the middle of Lake Ardagan. It is he who attracts many tourists every evening. After nine o'clock in the evening, people are delighted by the bright jets that shimmer to dynamic music. After the main part, the laser show begins. This inspires you to take beautiful and unusual photos and videos!

Argonauts Square is located in the central part of Batumi. The name of the attraction was chosen in honor of the heroes who went to Colchis. Information about the feat relates to the mythology of Ancient Greece

The following objects are located on the square:

  • Information stand about the Argonauts.
  • Monument to Medea, in whose hands you can see the Golden Fleece.
  • A fountain with decent implementation of lighting technologies.

  • Houses that have existed for several centuries.

All major festive events of Batumi are held on the square.

The astronomical clock is located in the historical center of Batumi and decorates the building of the National Bank of Georgia. Their main feature is the golden edging, which immediately gives them a special appearance. In this case, figures symbolizing the two main luminaries (sun and moon) are placed at the end parts of the arrows.

Astronomical clocks surprise not only with their beauty, but also with their capabilities. Every hour at 00 minutes a beautiful melody sounds, so people can easily find out the exact time. In addition, you can find out current information about the position of the sun and moon, accurate data about the meridians.

Location: 25 Memed Abashidze Ave.

The colonnades open up the Batumi embankment, and previously they were real gates. This object is located almost on the very shore of the Black Sea, so it fits perfectly into the architectural and natural composition of the city.

The colonnades were built about 80 years ago. Nowadays, they still look dignified and are an amazing decoration of Batumi, despite the fact that they have already lost their real appearance as gates leading to the sea coast.

Location: Seaside Boulevard.

The building was built and opened at the end of May 2010. This event was timed to coincide with Georgian Independence Day.

The shape of the building resembles an inverted bottle, which gives it a special originality. At night, the House of Justice delights with lighting technologies.

All state legal services successfully operate in the building:

  • Advocacy.
  • Notary.
  • Prosecutor's office.
  • Archive.
  • Tax service.
  • Public and civil registers.

The work is based on self-service, but specialists are always ready to help. All visitors are satisfied with the quality of the services provided.

The construction of the Cathedral of the Blessed Virgin Mary was carried out in 1898 - 1903. Donations from believers were used to implement the project. The consecration of the religious site took place in 1903.

In Soviet times, the building was used for economic and administrative purposes. However, the believers sincerely hoped to once again receive the cathedral at their location. The film “Repentance” by the famous Georgian director Tengiz Abuladze made it possible to focus on the existing problem, thanks to which restoration measures were carried out and the cathedral acquired its original appearance.

Nowadays, the Cathedral of the Blessed Virgin Mary remains one of the most famous and beautiful not only in Batumi, but throughout Georgia.

Location: Nikoloz Baratashvili Street.

It is this church that is the most important for all Armenians who moved to the Georgian city of Batumi.

Construction activities were carried out in 1885 - 1887. However, subsequently the building was used for various purposes, so the church served not only as a religious object. Despite the complexities of history, restoration efforts were successfully carried out between 1993 and 2000. Now the temple has been handed over to believers again.

Nowadays, the church has a youth center for Armenian believers and a Sunday school. The small courtyard regularly hosts ceremonial events dedicated to religious holidays.

Location: street st. K. Gamsakhurdia - 25.

The museum center has been successfully operating since 1908. It is named after public figure Khariton Akhvlediani.

At first the museum was a school museum, but later it was expanded. In 1935, a move took place, thanks to which the exhibition was able to be placed in a more spacious room.

The exhibition includes about 180 thousand items, including:

  • Photos.
  • Samples of art.
  • Rare manuscripts.
  • Antique books.
  • Exhibits revealing the geological structure, flora and fauna of Adjara;
  • Exhibits found during excavations.
  • Handmade items from different eras.

Every visitor can immerse himself in the amazing history of Georgia and Batumi.

Location: Jincharadze street - 4.

The “Chachi Tower” today is an exact copy of the fountain that was built in Batumi in the first half of the 20th century. The main goal is to increase the popularity of the drink chacha, which is a strong grape-based vodka. To attract attention to the Georgian drink, chacha flows from a fountain once a week for several minutes.

Features of the object:

  • The height of the tower is 25 meters.
  • The presence of the main dome at the very top.
  • Placement of four domes at a height of 15 meters.
  • Watch.
  • Surrounded by four touch pools that allow you to taste the national drink.

This design explains the reasons for the popularity of the fountain.

Sights of Batumi:

Batumi Piazza

Coordinates: 41.64958, 41.64116

Cruise ships periodically call at the port of Batumi. If you haven't seen such ships up close, it will be interesting to take a look.

I tried to climb onto the deck of one of the liners. I wanted to evaluate my strength and understand whether I could live on this for a week if I decided to sail across the Atlantic.

The guard smiled and winked, but did not let me onto the ship. German pensioners are reliably protected from intrusion by unwanted guests.

There is a boat parking near the port. You can buy a boat trip. Prices from 50 lari($20) per hour. They take you to dolphins in the open sea.

New Batumi - areas starting behind the San Remo cafe. In New Batumi there is Lake Ardagani, the Alley of Heroes, the House of Justice, a couple of parks, and the “Where” and “Liberte” sculptures.

My favorite place in New Batumi is the park on Lech and Maria Kaczynski Street. Roses, palm trees, soft grass. This is my paradise. Most often personal. While housing has not been completed around the park, there are few people here even in summer.

A significant number of the attractions listed below do not require money, which is doubly pleasant for budget tourists.

Today we will talk about the most unusual places in the city of Batumi, where they are located, what is special about them and, most importantly, whether they are worth the allotted time.

Batumi: attractions

We are forced to divide the attractions of the resort into groups to make it more convenient to describe each of them. Our list does not include all the key places in the city, but only the most visited and subjectively important.

In front of the sea terminal building there is a Park of Wonders, and a little to the side of it there is a pier for yachts and boats.

The sea terminal of the famous resort can rightfully boast of its unusualness and originality, along with other buildings located nearby. The quaint building is crowned with a sharp spire stretching to the heavenly expanses, and very close by is a pretty park with ornate plants.

If you are interested in information about the possibility of getting to Batumi by sea (by ferry or ship), flight schedule and other useful materials about the sea terminal, we recommend opening our separate article: What is the port of Batumi like?

Batumi cable car

The decoration of the city of Batumi and its main pride is. It connects the resort's embankment with Mount Feria, which is by and large an interesting and exciting entertainment. The new and modern design consists of 9 cabins that continuously transport those wishing to the top.

Mount Feria offers magnificent views of Batumi and the surrounding area. Nearby on the site there are cafes, souvenir shops and a small church (unfortunately not working).

To “fly” over a city, you must first find a landing station. It is located on Gogebashvili Street, in an area known to everyone. The cost of skating for an adult is 15 lari GEORGIAN GEL RATE:
15 lari = 4.97 euros;
15 lari = 5.7 dollars;
15 lari = 378.3 rubles;
15 lari = 159.6 hryvnia;
15 lari = 12.75 Belarusian rubles.
in two directions.

Attractions in the vicinity of Batumi

In addition to the fact that Batumi has many amazing things and attractions that you need to see first, there are no less magnificent surroundings around it that also wouldn’t hurt to see. Our small top 7 main wonders include:, and, the amazing Machakhela Gorge, and, the ancient monasteries of Gelati and Motsameta, as well as the Mtirala National Park. More details about each of them, except the last one, you can read in separate articles by clicking on the active link (highlighted in blue).

Traveling through mountainous Adjara Tourists will remember it for its rich program: unusual waterfalls (in the area and), ancient waterfalls, and several other striking attractions. The most convenient and recommended ways are either in a comfortable car with an interesting guide (we personally drove this way). An 8-hour voyage will cost 139 euros for two. If there are more people, the additional payment is 15 euros for each additional person. Another option to see the sights of mountainous Adjara is to go on a group excursion for 29 euros per person. The program is slightly different from an individual trip, but no less memorable.

Tour of Machakhela gorge will not only take you to quiet, secluded places, but will also reveal the unreal beauty of Adjara, hidden from prying eyes. Tourists can expect the capture of an ancient fortress, a walk along an “extreme” suspension bridge, raging waterfalls and the main highlight of the program - a feast with typical foods from the region (some of them can only be tried on this trip). Excursion to Machakhela - the best, which can be visited from the outskirts of Batumi. The cost of an individual trip is 159 euros for two. We recently found a good group excursion with a similar program, the price is 46 euros per person.

Okatse Canyon We recommend it primarily to those who are not afraid of heights. The views from it are simply stunning, but you will have to admire them from a narrow bridge suspended over a deep gorge. The highlight of the canyon is the platform from which you can see the waterfall. You won't be able to get close to Okatsa; the road near the gorge is badly broken. The simplest option is to get to the place where the ticket office is located and, after purchasing tickets, hire any car you like (there are cars of various “killed” cars driving around the place). The price of the trip will depend on the choice of vehicle. Approximately one way car will cost from 30 lari GEORGIAN GEL RATE:
30 lari = 9.93 euros;
30 lari = 11.4 dollars;
30 lari = 756.6 rubles;
30 lari = 319.2 hryvnia;
30 lari = 25.5 Belarusian rubles.
Exchange rates and prices may not be accurate., at two - 50 lari GEORGIAN GEL RATE:
50 lari = 16.55 euros;
50 lari = 19 dollars;
50 lari = 1261 rubles;
50 lari = 532 hryvnia;
50 lari = 42.5 Belarusian rubles.
Exchange rates and prices may not be accurate.. We visited the canyon during an individual excursion, together with the Martvili canyons. But there is also a group option, the price includes lunch.

Monasteries of Gelati and Motsameta, located nearby, it is best to combine them into one excursion. The temples are quite ancient and interesting. The Motsameta Monastery, surrounded by a gorge, resembles a small piece of paradise, where it is very beautiful and quiet. On the territory of the Gelati Monastery are the remains of the great King David, revered by Georgians. It is not uncommon to see excavations here. You can get to the monasteries. We went on an individual excursion, also taking in the Prometheus Cave. You can use the Gotrip.ge service. When planning a tour, fill in the appropriate lines (directions).

Mtirala National Park—recommended for visiting, a relatively new attraction in the vicinity of Batumi. The park acquired the status of a nature reserve in 2007. Mtirala is considered one of the wettest places in Europe and this alone can be considered a worthy reason to visit it. The park is rich in flora and fauna. You can get there by taking a tour or ordering a car with a driver.

Sights of Batumi. What to see in the capital of Adjara in 1-2 days. Piazza Square, the sculpture “Ali and Nino”, the Neptune Fountain and Batumi McDonald’s and much more. Sights of Batumi that are worth visiting first.

Batumi is the main resort of modern Georgia. City of eternal holiday. And at the same time, such a huge, overgrown amusement park, in which, by some strange coincidence, people also live. Tanya and I stayed here for almost a month. And almost all this time I had the feeling that we were in the epicenter of some huge amusement park. I don’t even know how to explain all this to you. It feels like every second the ground beneath you doesn’t stop moving, as if everything around you is one huge sparkling carousel. You go out to buy bread and you run into a series of iridescent towers that are rising around the next corner. You go with a serious face to resolve the issue with documents (more on this a little later), and somewhere behind you the singing fountains begin to play with might and main. I’m completely silent about the embankment and the old town. In the evenings, there is some kind of impromptu performance on almost every corner.

Old Batumi, Chacha Time bar and one of the local skyscrapers

And the capital of Adjara is a city that is changing literally before our eyes. A place where a construction crane or the cement frame of some new house tries to fit into every frame. Therefore, writing about the sights of Batumi is a thankless task. In a year or two, this list will still grow with a good dozen new items. During the time of Saakashvili, this city was declared something of a national project. And since then, in just 10 years, the appearance of Batumi has changed beyond recognition. I can only imagine what this city will be like in another ten years. Well, now I will present to your attention my selection of Batumi attractions and tell you how I saw this city in September 2016. Ready? Well, then let's go!

Piazza

The young heart of the old city. One of the tourist cards of Batumi. But for me personally, it’s just a beautiful place with an abundance of tables and various street performances, which I personally encountered here almost every day. What does this look like in practice? You are sitting in a cafe, drinking your favorite Zedazeni lemonade (tarragon-flavored), and a variety of people suddenly begin to flock to the center of the square. Another second and this line of people suddenly starts dancing something. It looks funny and very cool. Therefore, do not be surprised if after a minute or two you suddenly decide to join them. Then the music fades, applause sounds, and you all go back to your tables to drink Zedazeni and listen to unobtrusive jazz.

Oh yes... Batumi's Piazza is also a great place for photo shoots. Just don’t try to photograph it while standing below (then people and columns will constantly get into the frame, and the tower itself will turn out to be a little crooked). Instead, it’s better to climb the spiral staircase near The Quiet Woman pub (if the gate is closed, just climb over it, no one really cares about maintaining order here). There is an open area with a balustrade and a great view of the square. From there you get photos like these. Cool, isn't it?

How to find the Piazza? Follow the signs in the city or use the MAPS.ME app. This program was created by Belarusian specialists and is a collection of offline maps with a GPS navigation system. Set the required direction and follow the arrows. Everything is very simple.

Church of St. Nicholas

One of the oldest churches in the city, surrounded on all sides by expensive souvenir shops. According to the Internet, it is already more than a century and a half old. Although personally, I usually have a rather cool attitude towards various encyclopedic information and dates. What I really liked were the frescoes on the walls and the very style of construction of this church. Georgians will probably let me have a barbecue after these words, but as for me, many churches in Georgia are very similar to each other. And this church is at least a little different. I give you a thumbs up.

The downside is that there are numerous beggars constantly hanging out near the church. The grimy gypsies are especially annoying.

How to find this church? Located on Parnavaz mepe (King Parnavaz) street, 20. Directly opposite the Piazza.

For fans of more artsy Western architecture, there is an option to stroll to the side Chavchavadze street (house 25). The Batumi Cathedral of the Blessed Virgin Mary is located there, the construction of which began in 1897.

Also a very beautiful building. I like. Although the area around it is not the most pleasant.

Europe Square and Medea statue

Another beautiful place. In the center of the square there is a nice fountain with which tourists take pictures, a large street clock and a statue of an ancient Colchis princess holding the Golden Fleece in her hands (is this it or again the menu of some local restaurant?).

To tell the truth, Medea herself seemed somehow disproportionately thin to me. But I liked the fountains. I even ran under them a few times (although someone else still won the wet T-shirt contest).

I would also give a big thumbs up to the beautiful palace on the opposite side of the square. I understand that this is a remake. And I understand that to some it may even seem too pretentious and tasteless. But for the fact that Georgians are trying to make their city brighter and more beautiful, they already deserve respect. Oh yes... The astronomical clock on the tower is also superb.

Of the minuses, I would note the huge building of some new hotel, which rises above the square on the opposite side. A sort of Batumi “House at Trinity”. Well, okay, let's move on.

How to find Europa Square? From Tsar Parnavaz Street we turn onto Gamsakhurdia Street and further onto Abashidze Avenue. This walk takes about five minutes at most. Again, if you wish, you can use the MAPS.ME mobile navigator and look at street signs.

Neptune Fountain

Another attraction of Batumi, which regularly appears on tourist postcards from this city. Although, in my opinion, this fountain is photographed completely incorrectly. Yes, the fountain is named after Neptune. Yes, a man with a naked ass in the city center is a priori interesting and funny. But look a little lower! The main advantage of this fountain is not Neptune himself, but his companions. Damn... Find them and you will understand everything yourself. Half-naked women with legs in the shape of a fish tail and cheerful streams of water that splash (hmm... let's say) straight from their mammary glands...

Fakin' shield... If you see this, your life will never be the same. I just don't know how to unsee it.

How to find? From Europe Square, turn up onto Gamsakhurdia Street.

Wonderland Park and Alphabet Tower

Alphabet tower, entwined with letters of the Georgian alphabet, is a very strange structure, but at the same time very unusual. Like our National Library. It stands not far from the Batumi embankment and marks the beginning of the so-called “Park of Miracles”, which, in addition to the tower itself, includes several other attractions. Wander there in the evening - it’s not difficult to find them all. There is a Ferris wheel (3 GEL), and some unusual sculptures, and the Batumi lighthouse, and cool benches in the form of pebbles. In the evenings, all the city's high-rise buildings glow beautifully with many lights. That’s why Tanya and I really enjoyed spending time here.

By the way, you can even go up to the Alphabet Tower (although it’s not cheap - 8 lari, which is about 3.5 dollars). There is an observation deck with not the cleanest windows and an expensive restaurant. Although don’t think that I didn’t like it there. The inside of the tower ball looks very impressive. Like some kind of huge spaceship hovering over the city and the sea. In my opinion, it’s worth going there for the tower itself rather than for the observation deck.

How to find? Alphabet tower is visible from almost all points of the city. From the Neptune Fountain, walk forward towards the theater. Around the next corner there will already be SHE. You won't miss it.

Other skyscrapers of Batumi

In general, the architecture of Batumi is just an open day in a madhouse. Porticoes, chimneys, registry offices in the shape of pigs, giant spiers on the towers and, to top it all off, a Ferris wheel built on the nth floor into the body of one of the local high-rises. On the one hand, it’s a complete mess. On the other hand, it is this bit of healthy madness that adds some special zest to modern Batumi. And the twisted spiral of the Alphabet Tower is just the beginning of it all.

For me personally, the main symbol of all this unbridled eclecticism was the empty building of the Batumi Technological University (photo above). I won’t argue, it’s an interesting and attractive structure, but the spire is a little short. As far as I know, this tower is often called the tallest building in all the countries of the Caucasus. The spire would have been extended another 500 meters. Why waste time on trifles? Let the Burj Khalifa cry.

The unusually normal skyscraper next door to the university tower is called Batumi System Tower. The undulating building next to it is the Radisson Hotel. On its top floor there is an excellent Clouds restaurant, which offers a stunning view of the city. I also liked the view from the outdoor area of the Hilton hotel restaurant. From there you can see all the high-rise buildings of the city. And in general it’s cool there.

How to find? Near the Alphabet Tower.

Ali and Nino

One of the main symbols of the city is the rotating sculptures of two lovers, who either merge together or diverge again. A full rotation of the sculptures takes about 5 minutes. The exhibition is dedicated to the heroes of the novel of the same name, which tells the story of the love of an Azerbaijani Muslim guy and a Georgian Christian girl.

I don’t want to throw around big words, but the sculpture of Ali and Nino is really a very cool thing. This may be the best sculpture I have ever seen in my life. Bright idea, good execution, deep subtext. At least, right off the bat I can’t remember anything better... Except maybe spinning Lenin on Sovetskaya Square in Grodno... Or was it because of a drinking binge? Hm…

How to find? On the embankment near the Ferris wheel.

I will briefly mention other attractions of Batumi...

Chachi Tower

Located behind the Ferris wheel in the middle of a spacious lawn. I passed this place dozens of times, but didn't even pay attention to it. I learned that this was some kind of special structure when I returned home. And even at first I was upset that I didn’t try the free chacha (if anyone doesn’t know, this is a kind of Georgian vodka). Although it later turned out that chacha appears there only for 15 minutes a week. When exactly this miracle happens, I never found out. And I’ve never seen any special queues near this place. In short, some kind of scam. If you pass by, pass by. Or did someone actually drink chacha there? Write in the comments, please.

Singing Fountains

A very beautiful and bright show, woven from a subtle interweaving of water, light and beautiful melodies of Christophe Beck, Queen and Frank Sinatra. Among the advantages, I would note the excellent repertoire of fountains, synchronous movements of water, which really echoes the flow of the music, and beautiful lighting, chosen to match the melodies. Of the minuses... I haven't found them yet. In my opinion, the singing fountains in Batumi can give a hundred points to their colleagues from the capital of Georgia. However, see for yourself...

Batumi McDonald's

Remember, this summer I wrote that I was very impressed by the ancient and even slightly grotesque McDonald's in the Serbian city of Subotica? Haven't you read it? Then be sure to find this report among our materials. You'll like it.

Why am I writing all this in an article about the sights of Batumi? Yes, it’s just that it was in this Georgian city that I came across another interesting restaurant from this company - the most modern, elegant and futuristic McDuck that I have ever seen.

It is located on Sheriff Khimshiashvili Street, near the local House of Justice. By the way, this is also a very interesting building. About him below.

House of Justice

The House of Justice is on the right. On the other side is one of the local residential complexes.

The dream of a Belarusian lawyer and indeed of any person who has ever dealt with certain legal issues in our country. If you need to register a company, come here. Register your property here. Get married here. In short, everything you need in one place. And the Batumi House of Justice is simply a beautiful and original building (next to the local Alley of Heroes). Not far away is the local McDonald's, singing fountains and this upside-down house.

Unusual sculptures of Batumi

There are more than enough of them here. For example, there are giant boots on the embankment, in which you can take a photo if you wish.

Almost my size. Almost not a joke.

And here are another ones - in the opposite part of the city, in the area of the Euphoria Hotel. It will be a little more difficult to take pictures in them.

Also in Batumi there is a spinning girl next to Justice’s house. The photogenic inscription “Liberte”... And a somewhat more brutal inscription “Where”, made of some kind of rusty metal.

For fans of romance, I would also advise looking for various sculptures of lovers, depicting different periods of relationships. In one exhibition, lovers kiss, in another they give each other their hearts, and in a third they play golf with the same heart.

How to find? All sculptures are scattered in different parts of the seaside promenade. Walk along the sea from the city center towards the airport, and you will constantly come across one sculpture or another. Alternatively, you can make this journey by bicycle. Personally, we rented it for an hour for 3 GEL. But usually they charge 5-6 lari for bikes. In short, bargain. This is Georgia.
