I don’t know how the hosts negotiate with the airline, but the hotelier provided us with a transfer from Male to the island for $85 per person, with a ticket price for locals being $40, and for foreigners $160+taxes. And, judging by the stories of travelers, this is a common practice. Incl. negotiate with your hotelier.
And one more subtlety... when calculating the flight time, this is especially important when returning to an international airport, keep in mind that from distant islands (for example, in the north of Hanimadhoo or Ifaru) the flight may have a stopover to Darawanda. And this is an extra 30-40 minutes. Don't miss your international flight!
