After the introduction of amendments to the legislation, this became impossible. Children must have their own passport. Why is it needed, and how to arrange it correctly?
When do children need travel documents?
A foreign passport gives the child the right not only to cross the border with his parents, but also to study abroad. At what age is it allowed to issue this document?
Legislation allows you to get a passport from the birth of a baby. Only the number of documents required for obtaining a passport and applying will differ.
It is allowed to issue a document of a new sample or an outdated one. The choice is up to the child's parents.
Why is it needed?
A child under 14 years of age has the right to cross the border only with the parent in whose passport he is entered. The legislation adopted a new bill - a passport is issued separately for a child.

- to cross the border without parents - with friends, other family members or relatives;
- if the parents have a biometric passport, in which the child cannot be entered;
- to go abroad to study.
The law does not set age limits - a passport can be issued from the moment the baby is born.
Passport of the old type
A foreign document of an outdated format has the same legal force as a new type of passport. This document is valid for 5 years.

Documentation
To apply for a passport for a child, parents must bring the following documentation to the department of the migration service:
- statement;

- old foreign passport (if any);
- passport of the child (if he is already 14 years old);

New type of passport
A chip is embedded in the biometric passport. Children over 12 must go through the fingerprinting process. This document is valid for 10 years.

A new type of international passport (biometric) has positive and negative sides. The advantages are - border control will be faster (data is read from the chip), it has a larger number of pages, and is valid for 10 years. - tax receipt.

What is the difference between the old type passport and the new one? Which one is better for a child? The Federal Migration Service recommends that parents issue an obsolete document for their children.
The state duty in this case is less. And you can apply for it without bringing your child to the Service.

Another advantage of the old type of document is the quick turnaround time.. If the case is urgent, the passport will be ready in 2 days. What if the child is under 14 years old and does not have a passport? A foreign passport is a document that certifies the person of a resident of the Russian Federation outside her country. - Enter the data of the child's parents or his representative in the special fields.
- Fill out the questionnaire by answering the questions of the program.
- Fill out the application, indicating in it the information about the baby.
- Upload a photo of the child and submit an application.
- Pay the toll to the state. This can be done on the portal website or at any branch of the bank.
To track the results of the check, you need to go to your personal account on the website of the State Services.
To apply for a biometric passport through the State Services, you must:
- Fill out a form on the site.
- Upload a photo (to start a personal file).
- Submit an application form.
- Wait for the test results. In your personal account, you will see confirmation of acceptance of the application and the phrase “Expect an invitation”.
When the invitation is received, the parents and the child must visit the Migration Service, take a 3D photo and receive the document.
Timing
If the documentation is submitted to the Migration Service at the place of registration, the process of obtaining a passport for a child will take no more than 1 month. If not at the place of registration - up to 4 months.
Do newborns need a passport?
Previously, leaving the borders of their native country, parents could enter their children in their passport.
There have been changes in the legislation, and now even a newborn baby needs to issue a separate passport.
