Exchange Square is the southern part of Bogoyavlensky Lane, facing Ilyinka. In the northeast, the square gives rise to Staropansky Lane.
The square has existed in its modern form since 1782, when the southern part of Bogoyavlensky Lane was expanded due to the demolition of buildings on its eastern side. For a long time the square was called Karuninskaya - after the name of the merchant Karunin, who had a brass factory here in the 18th century. Since the end of the 19th century, the square began to be called Birzhevaya, since the building of the Moscow Exchange was located here.
In July-September 2017, the square and the adjacent alleys were landscaped. The overhead cable lines were removed into a special cable duct, and the space in the square was paved with granite.

From the Vitali Fountain to Adam and Eve

The Vitali Fountain on Teatralnaya Square is the oldest in the capital. It was created in 1827. In the 19th century, the fountain served as a water intake: in the morning, queues of water carriers and water carriers lined up at it, and local residents came with tubs and buckets. The horses were also watered here. In 1835, the fountain was decorated by sculptor Ivan Vitali. With the development of the water supply system in Moscow, the structure lost its water intake function and became one of the city’s decorations. In 1995, the Vitali Fountain was restored and, one of the first in the capital, winter LED lighting was installed.

The main fountain of Manezhnaya Square is called “Geyser”: its jets shoot out like a hot spring. The "Four Seasons" fountain is represented by the figures of four horses. Nearby, above the path, there is a fountain. Veil". It imitates the bed of the Neglinka River, and along the length of the bowl there are characters from fairy tales - from Ivan Tsarevich with Vasilisa the Beautiful to the sleeping Mermaid.

The rotunda fountain "Alexander and Natalie" at the Nikitsky Gate was built for the 200th anniversary of the birth of Alexander Pushkin. It is located near the Ascension Church, where the poet and the first beauty of both capitals, Natalya Goncharova, were married. The water in the fountain passes through carbon filters, which purify it to a spring state. You still shouldn't drink from the fountain, but on a hot day you can wash your face without fear.

On Europe Square in front of Kievsky Station, next to the pedestrian bridge over the Moscow River, there is a fountain The Kidnapping of Europa Belgian Olivier Strebl.

At the metro station Kuzminki” one of the largest fountain complexes in Europe is located - “Music of Glory”. The complex includes fountains “Fanfare of Victory”(21 meters high) and “Memory Pyramid”. The falling streams symbolize tears and memory, shooting upward - a festive fireworks.

A large-scale fountain - a monument to the 300th anniversary of the Russian fleet - was installed on the Moscow River. Its jets flow at the foot of a gigantic ship, headed by Emperor Peter the Great, and the Moscow River itself acts as the bowl of the fountain.

On Pushkinskaya Square street, since the 1950s, citizens have been pleased with the fountain “ Pushkinsky”, near which many make appointments. And on the other side of the square, another fountain was opened in 1980, which is called “Novopushkinsky”.

The light and music fountain in Gorky Park was built for the 1980 Olympics. Thanks to underwater lamps, its streams shine in a variety of colors.

The main figures of the fountain “Old Circus” there are clowns on Tsvetnoy Boulevard. One of them balances with an umbrella on a unicycle in the center of the bowl arena. And on Arbat the fountain attracts attention “ Turandot". The beautiful princess under an openwork canopy near the Yevgeny Vakhtangov Theater is one of the main attractions of the street.

Floating fountains on the Vodootvodny Canal appeared in 1995. A group of four pontoons with pumps located on them, producing high beautiful jets, is located between the Maly Moskvoretsky and Maly Kamenny bridges.

The "Adam and Eve" fountain works in the park near the metro station “Novokuznetskaya” since 2008. Each of the eight pumps of varying power performs its own function. Water cascades frame the podium with a sculptural composition, and decorative lighting creates richness and variety.

In the park opposite the famous House on the Embankment, next to Bolotnaya Square, there is a fountain “ Repinsky”. It was built in 1948 according to the classical design - with a bowl and jets directed upward and towards the center of the fountain.

A majestic dynamic light fountain in the museum-reserve “ Tsaritsyno”- a gift to the townspeople on the 860th anniversary of Moscow. About a thousand jets beat here, as well as three thousand lamps and a music installation. The number of possible hydroplastic shapes is almost infinite, and the acoustic system is designed so that the music can be heard from any shore of the pond.

The grand complex of fountains on Poklonnaya Gora consists of 15 fountain bowls, each of which has 15 vertical jets.

Peterhof world famous as the capital of fountains or the "Versailles of the North". State parks, numerous fountains, cascades, gilded and marble statues of gods and heroes of antiquity, magnificent decoration of palaces - all this was designed to confirm the idea of celebration Russia, established on the Baltic Sea. The ensemble includes Grand Palace- an elegant three-story building with galleries and domes sparkling with gilding; palace Cottage, palaces Monplaisir And Marley, Catherine's building, pavilion Hermitage. Of no less interest are Upper And Nizhny parks. Upper Park in regular style decorated with a central fountain Neptune and numerous sculptures framed by straight avenues. Lower Park in the English style there are over 150 fountains and 3 monumental cascades.

One of the tallest domed structures in the city of St. Petersburg is the famous St. Isaac's Cathedral. This building has gone through several stages of modernization during its existence.

It originates in the first half of the 18th century. It was then that a small wooden church was erected in honor of the famous Byzantine saint - Isaac of Dalmatia. It is worth noting that the day of remembrance of this saint coincided with the birthday of Peter I. It was in this small church that Peter held the wedding ceremony with his second wife, who became Ekaterina Alekseevna.
After some time, a stone temple was erected on the site of the wooden church. But soon this building again underwent a radical restructuring. The modernization of the temple was undertaken by the French architect O. Montferrand. The translation of the temple construction project into reality lasted for 40 years. During this time, a colossal amount of labor effort and money was invested in St. Isaac's Cathedral.

The cathedral dazzles with its beauty and attracts the attention of every passerby with its grandeur. More than 40 types of metals were used in the construction of this architectural landmark. The huge dome, which rises high above the cathedral, is made of metal and gilded. It took more than a hundred kilograms of red gold to gild it.

The interior decoration of the cathedral evokes real admiration and delight among all visitors. It is made of natural stone of different colors. Thanks to this, St. Isaac's Cathedral is often called the museum of colored stone. The walls of this Orthodox church are decorated with finishing panels made of rich green and yellow marble. Porphyry and jasper were also used for its decoration.
The external facade of the huge structure is decorated with magnificent columns made of marble. Their installation required a lot of effort. Granite pillars were cut down near the city of Vyborg. After that, they went to the construction site of the cathedral by water. Here the columns were processed and installed with the help of military units.

The harmonious combination of the colonnade of the main dome, the basement of the building with marble wall cladding and gilded domes attracts the eye and gives St. Isaac's Cathedral a solemn, ceremonial appearance. In addition, the building is striking in its scale. Thanks to its large area, the cathedral can accommodate more than 10 thousand visitors.

So, I will try to answer your question: “ When do fountains turn on in St. Petersburg in 2020?? Confusion with the opening of the fountain season in Peterhof has become commonplace. I note that the first turning on of the fountains and the Fountain Festival (the official opening of the summer season of Petrodvorets fountains) are two different things. First launch of the Peterhof Fountains will take place at the end of April. This is a type of test for the performance of the system. The ceremonial launch of the fountains usually occurs on the 3rd Saturday of May.

The first launch of fountains of the year.

April 25 - Opening of fountains in Peterhof, beginning of the summer season (last Saturday in April)

The webcam in Peterhof covers all weekdays and holidays taking place at the Peterhof State Museum. The broadcast is carried out all year round non-stop.

Fountains are as integral a part of St. Petersburg as the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Colosseum in Rome or the canals in Venice. Each of them is unique in its beauty and structure, and is inextricably linked with the historical and cultural heritage of the city. Among the water cascades there are interior, sculpture, color and even singing ones.

Every day, spring is more and more successfully winning back the right to own the world from winter. It is not surprising that with the arrival of warm and sunny weather, the schedule for the opening of fountains in St. Petersburg 2019 is of such increased interest among both city guests and indigenous residents of the Northern capital.

Traditionally, the opening of fountains in St. Petersburg 2019 is timed to coincide with the May holidays. One of the most original fountains, “Ball,” as well as the water cascade on Manezhnaya Square, will begin operating on April 19, the fountain in Alexander Park – from April 20, and on Admiralteysky Prospekt – from April 21.

But no matter how much you admire the opening of the fountains in St. Petersburg 2019, the real celebration of the splendor of the combination of air and water will take place in Peterhof. 150 fountains of the palace and park ensemble are already waiting for the day when thousands of guests will admire them.
