Ipanema is the second most popular (after Copacabana) beach in Rio de Janeiro. It is located in the south of the city and is considered one of the safest and wealthiest areas of Rio. During our stay in Rio de Janeiro we were able to visit several famous beaches. Usually people argue which of the beaches in Rio is better - Copacabana or Ipanema. Judging from the point of view of beauty, we liked Ipanema much more.
Ipanema Beach, it seemed to us, is quite well equipped: sun loungers and umbrellas can be rented, garbage is almost always removed, and the police periodically patrol here on ATVs. The waves on Ipanema are not as pronounced as on other beaches, but the water seems to be cleaner. By the way, the beaches in Rio are places where you not only sunbathe or swim, it's also a great place for a walk. There is constant movement along the surf line.
Ipanema is a wide beach, so there are usually a lot of people who love sports: both men and women jog, do some exercises, and then run again. Cotton candy, corn, popcorn, fried cheese and other unhealthy goodies are sold everywhere on the sidewalks. Walking here is certainly very pleasant: a light breeze blows, the waves roar, everyone is busy with something.

Story
In the 19th century, the owner of Ipanema was the entrepreneur “Baron” José António Moreira Filho, originally from the state of Sao Paulo. In his homeland there was a river with exactly the same name, which translated from the language of the Brazilian Tupi-Guarani tribe means “bad water.”
