Journey into wild Trang. Islands of Trang Province Islands of Trang Province

Trang is a province in the south, located on the west coast of the Malay Peninsula. The western part is washed by the Andaman Sea. The coastline is 119 km. It borders the provinces of Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung and Satun. The total area is 4917.5 sq. km, the population is 650,000 people (most of them are Muslims). The capital is the city of the same name, home to about 70,000 people. The province also owns 46 islands, which are actually tourist destinations in these places.

The coast is home to many beautiful beaches, while the interior is home to waterfalls, caves, rubber plantations and pristine jungle.

Trang is an independent tourist destination that is suitable for both beach and sightseeing holidays. While the province is not as popular as its neighboring one, it only benefits from this. There are mainly natural attractions here.

Trang city on the map of Thailand

Trang city

Trang city is the capital of the province and the main transport hub. It is located half an hour from the coast, so there is no question of any beach holiday. In terms of tourism, it is not of particular interest, because... There are no significant attractions or interesting entertainment here. This is an ordinary provincial town, of which there are hundreds in Thailand.

The main infrastructure is concentrated near the railway station (we have indicated its location on the map). There is a market, restaurants, shops, bars with live music. Most hotels in Trang are also concentrated here. In the evenings it is quiet, after 21-22 hours there is complete silence. There is no nightlife, discos and girls available.

Transport in the city is well developed. There are songthaew pickups, air-conditioned buses, three-wheeled tuk-tuks (which are called frogs here for their shape), and motorcycle taxis. Public transport is inexpensive, for example, a songthaew from the train station to the bus station costs 12 baht. About the same on buses.

The trip in tuk-tuks is negotiable and depends on the distance. But there are also fixed tariffs, for example, getting from the railway station (and the city center in general) to the airport costs 150 baht. Watch a short video.

In our opinion, it makes sense to stay in the city of Trang for 1-2 nights and use it as a transit base for trips to the islands of the province or to its beaches on the mainland. The main tourist infrastructure with motorbike rental and excursion bureaus is located next to the railway station. Here you can buy a comprehensive ticket (minivan + ferry) to almost any beach and island in the province (including little-known ones, such as Koh Sukon).

If you wish, you can stay longer in the city, fortunately the prices are favorable for this. For example, at the local market sweet mangoes cost 50 baht, and exactly the same ones in Tesco Lotus in Pattaya cost from 75 baht. All other products are cheaper too.

Who should go

Going to Trang, or rather to the islands of the province, is worth it for those who just want to relax - lie on the beach, swim in the sea, go snorkeling and diving, and sit in a restaurant on the shore in the evenings. Actually, this will be the limit of your vacation, since there are no significant attractions, nightlife, or discos here.

This is a calm place for those who are tired of the fast pace of cities, car noise and gas pollution. This place will appeal to everyone who wants to completely disconnect from worries during their vacation, be alone with nature, and breathe clean air unpolluted by exhaust emissions. On the popular islands there is no asphalt or any transport at all, not even horse-drawn carts :).

How to get there

There are a lot of options - by air, by water, by land. The city of Trang has a new bus station (where all buses from other cities arrive) and a train station.

Bangkok

The best way to get to Trang is by plane. Several airlines fly from the capital every day. Flight time is just over an hour. You can get from the airport to the city center by minibus for 90 baht. If you want comfort and transportation to the hotel, it is better to order a taxi in advance.

Cheap flights to Thailand

You can buy air tickets to Thailand as profitably as possible using special search engines that collect data from all airlines.

Transport

Transport is quite well developed. From the old bus station in Trang, local buses run to small towns in the province. The new bus station connects the province with Bangkok, Phuket, Hat Yai, Krabi and other cities of Thailand.

In fact, it is better for tourists to use the services of excursion bureaus on the streets. They organize full transfers with the ferry ticket included (almost all foreigners are interested in the islands, not the provincial cities). And if you get there on your own from bus stations, you will simply spend more time, and often money.

Beaches

The beaches of the province stretch for hundreds of kilometers. There are urban areas, and there are wild areas where there is no one. The first include Pakmeng Beach and Samran, where there is some infrastructure, especially on the first - cafes, restaurants, hotels. But it’s worth keeping in mind that all the housing is located across the road from the beach, plus in the evenings there are a lot of locals who traditionally leave trash behind.

If you want privacy and beauty, then visit Chang Lang Beach, Hua Hin Beach, Haad Yao. There is no infrastructure there, so you can only go for 1 day, without an overnight stay.

The beaches of Trang are almost unknown to tourists and mostly Thais relax there. And foreigners go overseas to the islands, where the coast is cleaned up and you can relax with 5+ ratings.

The main islands are , and to a lesser extent . We wrote a comparative analysis of them in an article about.

What to do and what to visit

First of all, it’s worth going to the islands, of which there are many: Koh Sukorn and others. Koh Kradan is considered the most beautiful of all the islands in Trang province.

You can get to them as part of an excursion (purchased at any local travel agency) or on your own - by renting a boat at Pak Meng Pier, Ban Chao Mai Pier and Kuan Thung Kuu Pier.

This is also a paradise for waterfall lovers. The entire eastern part of the province is dotted with them - Ton Tok, Ton Tae, Phrai Sawan, Sairung Waterfall.

For lovers of untouched flora and fauna, there is a direct route to Trang National Parks - Khao Chong and Hat Chao Mai.

You can take a steam bath in the hot springs of Khuan Daeng and Soline Hot Springs, and climb into numerous caves.

Trang Province is located to the south of the province, and is famous primarily for its two surprisingly beautiful islands, the island and the island.

These two islands, as well as the one located on the border of the provinces of Krabi and Trang, are most often visited by tourists in these places, however, the attractions of Trang province are not limited to these islands.

Firstly, in the northern part of Trang province, in close proximity to the islands of Ngai, Muk and Kradan, there is a group of beaches stretching for more than 20 km, and notable for its colorful and unique rocks. The most beautiful of these rocks are located near the beaches and Hat Yao, and are clearly visible from quite a distance, including from the beaches of nearby islands. It is worth especially noting that these rocks are in no way inferior to the rocks of the Krabi province, and the latter, as you know, are the main attraction of this province, attracting millions of tourists to Krabi.

And secondly, in the southern part of Trang province there are several impressive islands, the most famous of which are . These islands are located far from both the main tourist centers and the main routes of tourist ships, and only a few tourists are able to navigate the way to them. However, these islands are very beautiful, the snorkeling next to them is one of the best in the southern part of the Andaman Sea, and if you are not afraid of non-tourist places in Thailand, it is undoubtedly worth spending time and energy visiting the Lao Liang Islands.

Islands of Trang Province. Kradan, Ngai and Muk.

All three islands listed above have not yet been spoiled by the attention of the general public; all three islands have very high-quality beaches, and the beaches of all three islands offer amazingly beautiful views of the neighboring islands and the cliffs of the mainland. Despite the fact that the islands of Kradan, Ngai and Muk are not among the most popular tourist destinations in Thailand, the islands are quite easy to reach, both from the island and from parts of the province more distant from these islands. From the extreme south of Thailand, and, first of all, from the island, getting to the islands is also not difficult.

Accommodation options on the islands are quite varied, from camping in tents and renting bungalows made of bamboo and palm leaves, to staying in luxury hotels with prices around two hundred dollars per night. The cost of hotels and guesthouses on these islands is at least twice as high as on the mainland, however, those who want to visit these places are not afraid of the extra costs. The islands are surprisingly beautiful, uncrowded and, despite the presence of hotels, still look like a tropical paradise untouched by civilization. And the impressions gained from visiting the islands are clearly worth the money spent, especially since these costs, by European standards, are not so great.

Read more about the islands of Trang province. Brief description of the islands of Kradan, Ngai and Muk.

Koh Kradan Island is the most beautiful and least developed of the three large islands (Ngai, Muk and Kradan) located south of Lanta. The island of Kradan became famous for its magnificent two-kilometer long beach, with amazing light turquoise water and stunning views of neighboring islands and the cliffs of the mainland. Besides the beach, which is one of the best in Thailand, Kradan Island is notable for its extensive coral reef located around the entire perimeter of the island, and is known as one of the best snorkeling spots in southern Thailand. The fact that Kradan Island is surprisingly beautiful is known to many, and as a result, the island becomes crowded at the height of the day, but.....

Ngai Island (Koh Ngai, less commonly Koh Hai) is the northernmost and most populated of the three large islands (Ngai, Muk and Kradan) located south of Lanta. Ngai Island is considered one of the most interesting places in the south of Thailand and is known primarily for its long, about two kilometers long beach and amazingly beautiful views of the neighboring rocks and islands. The shape of Ngai Island is similar to a narrow triangle, elongated towards Lanta. On the eastern side of this triangle is the main beach and almost all the guesthouses, hotels and resorts of the island. On the western side there are wild and inhospitable cliffs. At the base of the triangle, in the southernmost part of the island, there are several beaches and.....

Muk Island (Koh Mook, less commonly Koh Muk) is the largest of the three islands (Ngai, Muk and Kradan) located south of Lanta. Compared to the other two islands, Ngai Island and Kradan Island, Muk Island is more mountainous (the height of the cliffs exceeds 300 meters) and does not have such extensive beaches, more than a kilometer long, as on the neighboring islands. However, Mook Island has two very impressive beaches, Hat Farang Beach (aka Charlie Beach) and Hat Hua Laem Beach (aka Sivalai Hotel Beach), both with perfect white coral sand and excellent views of the nearby cliffs and islands. The first of the beaches is located on both sides of a breathtakingly beautiful sand spit located in the eastern part of the island.....

Beaches on the mainland of Trang Province

However, there are also several beaches on the mainland that deserve attention, and first of all, these are the beaches of the northern part of Trang province, located in the area of Pak Meng and Hat Yao piers.

The main attraction of these beaches, unlike the beaches of the islands, with their snow-white coral sand and light emerald water, are the surprisingly beautiful rocks located along the edges of the beaches, as well as pleasing views of the neighboring islands.

The beaches themselves, however, are not without drawbacks; they are shallow and indented by numerous narrow bays (klongs), but the drawbacks of these beaches do not outweigh their merits, and first of all, the amazing beauty of the surrounding rocks.

It’s hard to say which of the rocks, the rocks of Pak Maeng Beach or the rocks of Hat Yao Beach, are the most beautiful. However, it is easy to tell which beach is the most popular. Obviously, this is Pak Maeng Beach, a place where there are several quite reasonable hotels, and for this reason is usually used by tourists as a base for trips to all the other beaches in the northern part of Trang province.

Both islands, Lao Liang Yai and Lao Liang Yai, are quite similar to each other, have approximately the same dimensions, 800 x 200 meters, and are located at a slight distance from each other (the width of the strait between islands does not exceed three hundred meters).

Since the Lao Liang Islands are located some distance from the main tourist centers of Thailand, the number of tourists visiting these islands is small. However, this does not prevent the Lao Liang Islands from being considered one of the most interesting places in southern Thailand.

The sheer cliffs of the Lao Liang Islands, more than a hundred meters high, make a strong impression. The beaches, sheltered from the sea waves by a wall of rocks, are very good. The coral reefs surrounding the islands are in excellent condition, and the corals themselves, as well as the colorful reef fish, are varied and abundant. In other words, the Lao Liang Islands give the impression of a real tropical paradise, not yet affected by the influence of civilization.

This tropical paradise is definitely worth seeing, and it doesn't take much effort to do it. Local motor boats (longtail boats) regularly visit the Lao Liang Islands, excursions come from the immediate vicinity to the Lao Liang Islands, and on the Lao Liang Islands themselves there is a tent camp ready to receive tourists who are not too attached to comfort. In general, there are no particular difficulties in organizing a trip to the Lao Liang Islands, and everything depends solely on your desire to see new, beautiful places that are not burdened with the achievements of civilization.

Sukon and Libong Islands in Trang Province

Islands of Trang Province. Sunset on Sukon Island, Lao Liang Islands on the horizon.

If you look closely at the map of Trang Province, you can see that Trang Province has two groups of islands: those located near the mainland coastline and those located further out to sea. The first group of islands, which includes and, cannot boast of outstanding beaches, impressive coral reefs, or other amazing natural beauties.

As a result, there are few tourists on these islands, and these islands themselves are interesting, except for their leisurely and relaxing lifestyle, which, however, is characteristic not only of the Sukon and Libong islands, but in general for any island not spoiled by tourists. remote Thai province.

However, there is one circumstance that does not allow these places to be considered completely hopeless, and this concerns, first of all, the island of Sukon. Sukon Island, although lacking in outstanding natural beauty, is very well located in relation to other, more interesting islands, and is good as a base from which it is convenient to make forays to these islands. There are several such islands in the area of Sukon Island, all of these islands are small in size and uninhabited, they all belong to the Petra National Park (Mu Ko Phetra), and among these islands the first place is undoubtedly occupied by the islands) and Kradan () is approximately 15 km., the distance between Libong Island and Lanta Island is approximately 40 km. Although Libong Island is located next to the popular tourist islands of Ngai, Muk and Kradan, however, those wishing to visit Libong Island are.....

Two hotels have also been built on Koh Muk. The main religion practiced by the local population is Islam. The best time to visit the island is from November to March.
